I've had Ameritech/SBC DSL for about 5 years now, replacing dial up previous to that. Install was fairly easy, though it took about a day after I received the DSL modem to finally get sync. (Self-intall) There was a short ramp-up period where it went from about 128Kb to 384Kb (the most I can get here - or so I am told - because of distance from CO or condition of lines. I have a dynamic IP.

The only problem I had for the first few months was an intermittent dropping of service. Finally, one day, I messed around at my telephone box on my house and apparently cleaned up the problem. I'd say 99%+ uptime for the past couple years.

The original SBC software (connection manager, browser) was trash. I've had my router for a couple years, and using that was better than the software method originally provided. Wish that latency for gaming was a bit lower. Usually ping at 70ms or higher at game servers.

Update 9/07: Still working fine - been months since the last downtime I noticed. However, I am becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of speed. Integrated video in websites, on-line gaming, etc. are requiring more bandwidth and I don't have much. I still get by, I can still play online games, but am starting to get frustrated. Still recommend AT&T DSL for a "casual" user, but, at the speed available to me, more advanced or more deamnding users may be frustrated.

Never gotten the speed I paid for with ATT dsl.

I've never gotten the speed I paid AT&T for since I started with them 5 years ago. Whenever I complain to them about this, their response have alwats been that the problem is on my side. I'm hoping something better will come up in my area soon.
