**I no longer use AT&T**

UPDATE - since the last review of Ameritech, which is now SBC Yahoo, I've ditched RCN and came back. I was please to have ordered DSL around October 15th and had the Speedstream 5100 by October 26th. I installed and setup the DSL service using my wireless D-Link router and after the registration process was up and running within minutes. I have no complaints so far. I am happy to say this is the most pleasant experience. SBC has done a lot to earn my respect again..

[OLD REVIEW - a few many years ago]

Ameritech did okay by me at first. They did say it would be about a month before install would happen, and it was exactly as they said. The install tech was a contractor, nice guy, spent about 3 and a half hours total installing the line and getting the computer set up. Hardware is minimal, good thing, I'm using a Efficient Networks 3060 Internal DSL modem, i guess using ppoa? Service @ first was great, i was getting close to 1.5 down and about 200 up. Then as the months progressed speed declined to around 400-500 down, 70-130 up. Service stopped for days @ a time during August & September, got pretty frustrated. Some friends asked if they should get Ameritech.. I said no, but they tried any ways.. their installations went horrible, horrible enough for them to cancel the whole deal.. One friend told me Ameritech told him that they needed to schedule 3 visits, another friend had a guy come out and install the line and then somehow short circuited his voiceline.. took a non-ameritech civilian (a friend) to fix the problem. I can't wait till either a. our building will be getting rid of Onepoint Cable and installing RCN cable, who has cable modem services and/or b. my contact with Ameritech comes up for review in April.. cause if A. doesn't happen i'm going to another dsl provider. good luck..
