hi- i have had earthlink satellite service forever- i live in a rural area and thats about it-- for the last month, i have been unable to connect to the internet with my satellite- i have the dreaded dw4000 modem- i keep getting a message that there is a satellite outage- well, i have spent entire days and hours and days on the phone with every one imaginable at earthlink , in india and in atlanta , ga.,- no one will give me the reason, all i get is the runaround : "the engineers are working on it...."- i understand i would be back in business (literally since i sell on ebay for a living) if i could get an updated new modem- seems easy ? well, earthlink will neither give us one OR sell us one !! yet they classify us as premium customers- i keep going up the corporate ladder, with some employees actually being outraged also, and then , WHAM , (just like a stephen king novel) they pull back and say - oh no- can't do it- does anyone have any advice ?

| EarthLink is unable to do that. DirecWay/HughesNet requires that you sign up for brand new satellite service in order to recieve a new, shiny DW7000 modem. That includes installation fees. Chances are, you'll be paying $600 for a service that did not improve the way you wanted it to. EarthLink, being direct business partners with DirecWay/HughesNet, is unable to just give it to you; such an inquiry would have to go through the actual vendor but would still warrant additional charges.
Stick to dial-up if no other broadband providers are in your area. Satellite isn't worth the headache, and at least with dial-up you are guaranteed the servicability at slightly slower speeds than what you were paying for with a satellite "broadband" service. | |

| Re: EarthLink is unable to do that. one would think we could buy a new system- but , no, all earthlink does is SAY they will open a new account and yada yada and then , guess what? they don't do it- we have asked to PAY for a new sysytem and they won't - i really can't fathom it- i have filed complaints with the FCC and State attorney general- dial up just doesn't cut it - | |
