VOIPo continues to provide rock stable service. I've had no need to contact support for a long time now. The value is excellent for those who want "almost unlimited" calling for a very reasonable annual cost with a VOIPo provided and "locked" adapter. The web portal is still seriously lacking, given its sparse design and non-intuitive navigability among the various options and settings. The BlackListing feature is quite confusing.

In spite of these criticisms, the VOIPo product is excellent as reflected in my scoring.

April 10, 2011 ---

As I posted last year, "I am still very impressed with the VOIPo operation ... " In fact, nothing has changed from my prior comments. That's a good thing ... but, the web portal is still lacking, given its sparse design and non-intuitive navigability among the various options and settings.

I truly appreciate the ability to obtain an independent Virtual Number (e.g., in another area code or rate center) which can be registered on Line 2 of the adapter ... a number that fully functions as an independent line, including its own voice mail, call forwarding, etc. For those with "out of town" family and friends this true second line (not a cloned or linked 2nd line as offered by competitors) is a major selling point ... essentially getting two separate "accounts" for the price of one.

With that said, I would strongly recommend VOIPo to those looking for a reasonable Annual Plan. This company continues to exhibit strong fiscal and moral responsibility under its founder and CEO Tim Dick.

March 28, 2010 ---

I am still very impressed with the VOIPo operation ... and their excellent support (both trouble tickets and voice). As many in the BBR Forums know, I am one who likes to experiment with a variety of providers ... and put them through their paces ... to learn what each provider does and does not offer by way of feature sets.

After a respectful interval of well over one year (at least) of using VOIPo and three other providers, I am now revising my reviews for the three that I've already reviewed ... and I will be adding a new review for the fourth provider.

My latest updates for the three existing reviews and the new posting for the fourth provider are going to be somewhat more picky than before ... in an effort to truly differentiate them from each other rather than to simply give them "5"s across the board.

VOIPo continues to work reliably with my own PAP2T-NA which has been "locked down" by VOIPo ... although lately I've been encountering voice triggered DTMF tones (my voice, not the touch tone pad) when using the line to dictate into my office computerized transcription system. The tones tend to cause a "pause" in the recording ... but fortunately a voice response informs me of the "pause" so I just key "2" and continue dictating. I am not downgrading the "5s" for Quality and Reliability ... because I am sure that support can just make a change or two in the PAP2 settings to correct the "phantom touch tone" problem.

Support is excellent and persistent in dealing with and resolving issues. Some will remember a thread I started last December reporting hijacking of my Boca Raton FL DID by an auto-dialing machine that made thousands of calls to people in the 561 and 954 area codes over a period of several days. Thousands of the victims of these anonymous calls showing my caller ID called back ... and were initially forwarded to my cell phone until I realized what was happening and forwarded the calls to a "busy signal". VOIPo quickly blocked the abused DID and provided me with a new number, going out of their way to find a double-zero (561-xxx-xx00) number as a replacement.

I've downgraded the "Web-site" rating by one point ... to indicate my feeling that the site is to simplistic ... not difficult to use ... but not particularly "fancy" or intuitive. One particular thorn in my side is the way the Call Logs are presented ... a full line is dedicated to each and every day/date that calls are logged ... beneath this is blue banner with "From ... To ... Start Time ... Duration" .. both lines cluttering up the page ... and beneath this banner is the listing of calls made and received that day. The presentation makes it tedious to review the logs.

I've downgraded the "Value for money" because there is no category for rating "Features" ... so I would appear to be getting less value for money when compared with my other vendors. VOIPo seems to be lagging in offering some features that are now part of the feature sets for my three other providers. The most obvious deficiency is in dealing with routing incoming calls based on CID. I may be missing something, but I've only identified the (1) usual capability for standard CallForwarding to a designated phone number and (2) "failover". I see no ability to forward to SIP-URI or to build a Whitelist and/or Blacklist by incoming CallerID or DISA. Blacklisting of individual CIDs has become a primary tool for me ... given the number of undesirable incoming calls I get every day.

The "Value" for the monthly/annual plans for VOIPo's offerings is in the eye of the beholder ... based on monthly minute usage and calling patterns. If one uses 1000 or more monthly minutes, then there is good value, even with the add-on fees ... which have become a fact of life with some providers, but not all.

VOIPo is now competing for business with their 2-for-1 year plans. That's interesting ... given the hundreds of comments made by posters over the last several years regarding the survivability of providers who "stoop" to the 2-for-1 offerings. At one time many thought this indicated "trouble". However, given VOIPo's excellent business model, it's very knowledgeable CEO (Tim Dick), and the association (non-financial) with HostGator, I suspect the 2-for-1 offer is a good thing (for customers and for the vendor, too).

This review update is not meant to be hurtful or misleading ... it is just a fresh and honest view of my current opinions of the various providers I have been using ... in this case VOIPo.

October 23, 2009 ---

As an original "tester" with Voipo, I've continued to have rock solid BYOD access (PAP2T-NA) ... with no problems encountered at my NJ location through my OptOnLine ISP. But, I could not get the exact same adapter to register in my Florida home with Comcast as the ISP ... no matter how much I tinkered with the settings.

Then Voipo offered a free Virtual Number that could be registered on line 2 of a "locked" device. This would enable totally independent function on Line 1 and Line 2 ... outgoing, incoming, separate outgoing CID, separate call forwarding, etc. ... far superior to the old SunRocket virtual number functionality.

So, while in my Florida home last month, I spent 20 minutes on the phone with Cody at Voipo customer service. He was awesome (informative, knowledgeable) ... taking over my own PAP2T-NA and my WRT54G Router remotely ... fiddling with a bunch of settings ... and setting me up with my FL main number on Line 1 and my NJ virtual number on Line 2.

Once Cody finished "locking down" my PAP2T, the device immediately made friends with Comcast ... my FL (Line 1) & NJ (Line 2) DIDs were up and running in Florida. [Oh happy day!]

Although my earlier period of experimentation with VoIP providers and adapter (ATA) settings was fun and educational, I've now settled into a routine of "set it and forget it" when it comes to ATAs ... be they BYOD or "locked".

April 13, 2009 --- BYOD PAP2T adapter continues to perform flawlessly with VOIPo. No downside issues to report in this update.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

February 25, 2009 --- I'm aware of recent connectivity issues that have been reported in the BBR Forums ... and Tim Dick's timely and upfront explanations and corrective actions ... but I honestly have not experienced any problems with my VOIPo line. I suspect it's because I'm one of the original alpha/beta testers who is using a BYOD PAP2T adapter. (I love my PAP2.)

I'm not "fanboying". Rather, nothing has affected me personally that would cause me to modify my review ratings.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

January 27, 2009 --- Two months since last comments. I've not experienced a single hiccough. And their recent offer of "first virtual number free" is just icing on the cake.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

November 16, 2008 --- Yep! I know we are all waiting for the official release, but VOIPo is shipping adapters and activating service to new sign-ups through sales@voipo.com.

Meanwhile, my VOIPo service continues to operate flawlessly. Though I love to fiddle with BYODs with my other VoIP providers, I have found that it's "set it and forget it" with VOIPo ... no need to change servers, no need to reset adapter to restore service.

I recently added a Virtual Number on the fly, activated within minutes, and selected from a long list of available DIDs (by State, Area Code, Rate Center).

Realizing that the desire for specific options within VoIP feature sets is highly individualized ... and VOIPo may have some features still in development ... I personally am content with the current features.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

August 1, 2008 --- As an alpha and then beta participant with VOIPo, I have had the pleasure of observing a well-thought out project as it has gone from the drawing board to the upcoming public launch. The philosophy from the get-go has been to make sure that the product and service and support are fully tested and ready for prime time -- before opening it up to the public.

My VOIPo line works as advertised each time I make an outgoing call or receive an incoming call. The full feature set is functioning well.

Having seen so many VoIP providers come and go --- with some existing ones teetering precariously even now --- there is a degree of confidence inherent with VOIPo because it is partnered with a webhosting company (HostGator) with over 1.2 million customers --- essentially a built in potential new-customer base for VOIPo --- not to mention the deep pockets financial resources provided by HostGator.

Voipo is the future

Anybody that says they have problems with service usually can link that back to their internet service, not Voipo issues. Voipo has a 'failover' function...which means that you can enter your cell phone number and if your power goes out and somebody tries to call you, the call will automatically be forwarded to your cell number. You can also direct telemarketing calls to hear the message "This number has been disconnected"

I was very skeptical about internet phone after I had Vonage and the call quality and pricing was horrible...all after you had to buy their equipment ($24.99 a month plus taxes? come one..my local land line is cheaper). I ordered Voipo service for a year ($99 for the whole year by the way) and they shipped me all the necessary items completely free of charge...and they paid for shipping!

Couldn't be happier. I would recommend Voipo to anybody. If you are skeptical, they have a money back guarantee and ship you the hardware for free...so you have nothing to lose and no excuses.

So I saw the Voipo money back guarantee and decided why not. Best decision for phone service ever. Just over $8 a month gets me crystal clear phone service with every single feature I could ever want. And their customer service is personal and very responsive. If you have an issue with your service cutting in and out its gonna be a problem with your internet provider.

Re: Voipo is the future

I'm sorry but I disagree with what you said about the internet connection. I am with verizon and have the highest speed there is, and the calls were still bad.

VOIPo

I was using VOIPo services for only about 2 days. I was pleased at first. I loved the voice mail, and that I can have control of my settings online, but then I kept getting a fast busy signal when trying to dial out. Whenever I did get lucky to actually make a call, the call was choppy, had a lot of static and had an echo. It was terrible, I cancelled after only 2 days of service. I found myself having to constantly contact them for tech issues. I am now with another Voip company, and don't have any f those issues. Before you decide to go Voip, do your research and ask a lot of questions. Don't just look at the low prices, read the reviews also.
