My Other Reviews

·SONIC.NET
I ordered on the evening of the 10th of September. Of course, the next day was crazy, and I didn't even really think I'd ever get the service on time. In two days my order was ackknowledged and the phone company hook up was initiated by the 21st. Got the gateway on the 28th, and it linked and every thing worked perfectly after that. The gateway is initialized in DHCP mode to obtain an IP address from the server, but after that, the ip number is yours.

I disconnected a couple of days later to hook up my new router, but everything has worked perfectly since. The connection is recognized immediately and the gateway has no problem reestablishing a connection. No down time that I've perceived, and the only bad thing was a slow smtp server the other day. I haven't really examined the newsgroups, but streaming video and web page loading, as well as unix access to my old ISP and some other ISP's where I maintain web pages have been nothing less than superb in both latency and speed.

Looking forward to doing some web serving things on my static ip.

I'm unable to give a review on the technical support because I haven't needed any. I haven't talked to any humans during this entire process.

Good value for the money.

After having the service for 4 months now, I thought I'd update my review.

Around the December time frame there were lots of troubles with certain routers, but that seems to be better now, and down/upload speeds are now more consistent. Packet losses are now lower as well. Tech support has been pertty good the couple of times I've called them, but the wait time is still beyond an hour, which is a long time to tie up the phone. I barely use the mail, and I don't do binaries, but the rest of the news is fine. With the static IP, I still think they're a good deal for the money.

And now that DIRECTV DSL is out of business, I will once again update my review. After over a year of service, DTVDSL turned out to be a great service. The connection was always consistent, and the tech support turned out to be good the few times I had to call them, with the wait periods going down to well under an hour. I guess their service just couldn't make money at the price they were charging. Indeed, the replacement I've selected with comparable service is $10 more a month.
