I chose Verizon Fios because they marketed it as very fast and very popular in our
area. Although the price was higher than others, they advertised that I
could migrate the service when I move, which I planned to do within a few
months. Once I moved, I found that I would be charged a fee for every month
of the 12 month contract if they did not provide service in the area I was
moving to. This was upwards of $150, almost more than I paid them to date.
I spoke on the phone with customer service quite a bit trying to get some
of the fee reduced and it was very frustrating. It's clear they have
strategies to "lose" callers by accidental disconnects and accidental
transfers. I was on the phone for 1.5 hours and I was accidentally hung up
on once and accidentally transferred twice, each time having to start over
in the Que. I also found out during my call that Fios is very particular to
our area and it would be very unlikely to find it anywhere else, therefore
making the contact very binding. I was told the fee is "non-negotiable" and
I am done trying to get it back. I'm very disappointed in Verizon and they
have lost my business in the future.
