$28 per month- (12 month contract)
about 14 days Verizon "Great price, great customer service by phone; speed matches advertised speed" "DSL modem was modem only, no wifi cabability; had to pay to have phone jack installed in house ($65 to private contractor)" "Good deal for internet; but you have to be in a Verizon area, I believe"

Moved to a new house and just wanted DSL---cable is too expensive. Verizon doesn't offer DSL in my area any more, only FIOS (way too expensive). But, Verizon does provide the copper lines that my DSL runs on... and DSL Extreme provides the service. I believe it only works in areas serviced by Verizon..? I hunted around a bit, and this seems to be the most reasonably priced service for the speed that you get. I signed up for 3000 kbp down and 768 kbp up and it seems to deliver on that (at least through the modem---I did test it directly with the modem; I have a crappy wireless router that cut my speeds to half that, so need to get a new one). Total monthly cost for service + Verizon's fee, which is billed through DSL Extreme, so all one bill, is $27.83. For $14.95 they'll also ship you a modem that they guarantee will work with their service. Setup was a little trickier than I remember from my Verizon DSL days... you have to authenticate with a username and password, but you can set your router to do that automatically for you. I called tech support to help with the initial setup; they were extremely prompt in answering the phone (awesome!) and they fixed my setup issues in a matter of minutes. I just wish the modem had come with better setup instructions... I didn't realize that I had to authenticate with a username and password before talking with tech support. Verizon was very quick to install the new line to the house; unfortunately, I also had to get a private contractor to come out and run the new line into the house; fortunately, I found a competent guy who did that run for $65.
