Be aware if you buy any ADSL modem from QWEST directly.
Tech support is not free for advance networking such as port forwarding and so on.
It is impossible to port forward with Actiontec modems because of NAT and it can't be disabled or else you loose your connection.

    Never heard anything like it

Not quite sure of your real problem but i would suggest to then get a Router and let it take care of the connection.Just set modem to bridge.Thats the setup i had a while back.

they use PPPoATM so you cant use a router like you would with a normal isp thats what his problem is [maybe something to do with their msn crap?] i get exceptional speeds, but very unstable latency, altho gaming is acceptable, it would be nice to get consistantly low latency...

Who cares what "they" use? You should listen to the other poster and change your modem to bridge mode and use a router with PPPoE.

once again, they use PPPoATM, routers cant do PPPoATM. thats why they use PPPoATM.

granted, PPPoATM is faster... it really is... but our normal hardware simply does not have support for it. seeing as how its ppp over ATM and not ppp over Ethernet.

That's odd. I put the modem in bridge mode, have my router do PPPoE authentication, and everything just works. Are you sure your ISP is Qwest?

i am on their msn crap service, they only give you pppoa, if you have real qwest you get alot of goodies, they are a good isp.

R U Sure you are a Cisco Engineer?

While you post that you are having a problem and people suggest a fix...You say you are a cisco engineer? So.... So buy a linksys 40 dollar router and do what some are saying. You wouldn't have to be a cisco engineer to figure this one out. I'm pretty sure that Qwest changed their entire network to support PPOE a while ago. I don't like their service either but this seems like a lame knock on them....

Earlier, I had simply posted my experience. And a sarcastic reply to mr. huggles who thinks he knows about networking seemed appropriate.
Furthermore I even find it utterly shocking that I have to explain such stupid point in this intelligent forum.
    Cheers..

Ps. You suggest that I implement solutions offered here but don't you think you're assuming? I only post(ed) about "a" thing for which I believe I'd tried all possible methods.
