I have both Comcast HSI and Qwest DSL. Comcast is having problems in my area, so while they work things out, I'm trying out Qwest.
I signed up for Qwest DSL through Circuit City and received a $150 gift card which I then used to purchase an Actiontec M1000 ($69,99 plus tax). The modem also came with $60 in rebates if I keep the service at least 60 days. The order process went smoothly with the Circuit City rep doing most of it. I only got on the phone to confirm.
Order date: 8/8/07 Connection date: 8/14/07
Service: 1536Kbps up/768Kbps down for $26.99/month with 24 month contract. Comes with a 30 day trial guarantee. (The 7Mbps service is not available in my neighborhood - yet)
Wiring: I connected an unused pair of Cat 5 that runs from my Telco box to my basement network hub.
Test Results: »/testhistory/1457308/f33d9 Note: The line monitoring includes my Comcast HSI, my mother-in-law's Comcast HSI for comparison, and Qwest DSL. The ongoing SmokePing also includes all three. The one that is the most stable with little variability is the Qwest DSL.
Impressions: I'm amazed at how stable the connection is! I like to do online gaming and kept lagging with Comcast. I have not experienced any excessive lag with Qwest DSL. Qwest is laying fibre (FTTN) in our area and I'm hoping they will offer 7Mbps service by the end of the year.
