I was amazed at how fast I was up and running with Qwest broadband w/MSN. From order to uptime was 3 days. The router showed up as promised and ontime, the line was ready and active and once I decided not to use the "QuickConnect" software, I was online in less than 5 minutes.

The wireless router is a 2Wire 2701HG-D. It's default configuration is acceptable for a single workstation but not for a larger network with a server. The firewall works well and can be configured for server services. The wireless range is better than my Linksys model.

The line speed is 7168/896. I am only 3 blocks from my Qwest office so you would think I would be able to get rated speeds. In actuality, I average about 5560/680. I've called thier support and was told exactly what I expected to hear, "we offer UP TO 7mbps". That's okay with me, for $46 a month I really can't go wrong.

The connection has been stable. I have only lost internet connectivity once in 30 days and only for less than 2 minutes. I have not noticed any P2P throttling.

I live in a small rual town in central utah and the only other broadband provider is HughesNet which I unfortuantely used for over a year when I lived 6 miles outside of town. There really is no comparison between the two as I'm saving hundreds of dollars a year.

In a few words: A great value for the money, _local_ customer support is very good, MSN support is well.... MSN support. My two biggest complaints would be lack of a POP3 mail server and NO newsgroup (NNTP) access.

    Actiontec GT701-WG works better

(With assistance from Qwest) I am unable to get all 5 wireless computers to connect. The computer that did without problems runs Windows Vista (all of the others have XP installed). I don't have time for long term troubleshooting, so I have removed the 2Wire and reconnected the Actiontec.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I have 7 wireless users on this network; 5 Windows (4 XP, 1 Vista), and 2 Linux Laptops that work without any problems at all. In fact, I am able to use the 2Wire wireless about 300' farther than my previous Linksys w/external antenna. I'm willing to help you troubleshoot if you would like.

I appreciate the offer. Because I was hours in chat with Qwest, I assume I'll need "hours" on the phone (to address one client at a time). Are you officially affiliated with Qwest or 2Wire?

Not at all. I am a field network service enginner and have been in the business for 20 years. I apologize for not getting back with you sooner but I've been very busy with work. If you're still interested, please let me know.

(I understand about not having enough time...)

I was helping a friend...I'm not sure how she wants to proceed. I'll try to keep your offer in consideration. Thanks for your time.
