I'd rather pay a little bit more for the top notch service and support, rather that go with the cheapest, WalMart-ish type ISP who give you only a connection and a phone number to a call center somewhere in Asia.
The monthly cost for me includes dry-pair dsl and Speakeasy VOIP. Even with Speakeasy's higher dsl costs, it saves me money every month by not having to pay for a local phone line, local phone service/taxes, and the obligatory long distance monthly charge (thanks Qwest!).
