Pre-sales indicated that my distance from the CO was within range to receive in the range of 3 mps (they advertise "up to" 8 mps). However I am downloading at under 600 kps and uploading at about 300 kps. Multiple calls to tech support did not improve this. A supervisor ultimately revealed that Cavalier customers in my section of the city are averaging in the 600 kps range. At peak times (9am, 5pm) my connection is somewhat unreliable.
Unless you just want to check your e-mail, do not use Cavalier unless you know you are immediately adjacent an operations center. I have CavTel at a business that is right down the street from a CO and we are getting -- 1 mps.
I had previously been on Verizon's 768 kps package and was getting about 700 kps. Wish I had just upgraded my Verizon service.

Well you're one of those lucky people.I'm 7800' from the CO and on a good day at a non peak time I'm lucky if I get 2Mbps/700Kbps.I've contacted cavtel support plenty of times,and even rewired the in house wiring.Still no increase in speed.It's better than what I was orginally getting which was around 700Kbps/500Kbps,several calls to Cavtel, the last being me threatening to cancel my service actually resulted in a jump in speeds ,up to what I get now. Still I decided to get Comcast HSI which while slightly more expensive puts Cavtel's DSL service to shame. | |

| Cavalier needs to be shut down by Regulators.
Cavalier is a joke and are costing me a lot of money. I didn't even sign up with them. I was with Network telephone and happy until Network telephone was bought by Cavalier. My email didn't work properly until when I couldn't stand it anymore I switched to AT&T or Bellsouth, whatever. It has been 6 months of hours and hours on the phone and I still can't get my domain name moved over. I think I will have to file a law suit against them. They have been sending me a bill which I inadvertantly paid the first couple of months after Bellsouth notified them to cancel service. They recognize this and know they owe me a refund but its been 3 months and I havn't received it. Instead I receive a bill for non existant services that has run up to 1100.00 Bellsouth has expressed their frustation with these people and say until Cavtel give them some damn access code they can't move my domain name so I can get email for my business. This is a nighmare and anyone out there that is thinking of going to cavalier don't. | |

| Re: Cavalier needs to be shut down by Regulators. it happens a lot in aquisitions of any company, not just cavalier. granted, there customer service isn't the greatest but it looks like you've been bent over ten times from sunday. do what you need to do. i was not aware of cavalier doing domain name hosting either. | |

| I had the same shitty service from Cavalier but luckily I was able to switch back to AT&T in about a month although it took longer than i wanted because Cavalier technicians don't know how to do their job and want to blame other companies for their mistakes. I too had the same problem of them trying to bill me for their service after I was switched over to another company. I live in Michigan so I contacted the Michigan Public Service Commission Enforcement Division and filed a complaint against Cavalier. It might be called something a little different in your state. I found the number on the Michigan webpage. After a week I was contacted by a representative from Cavalier and my account was finally closed along with a zero balance. I would of let them take me court if they wanted their $35. They are nothing but a waste of time and money. I hope this helps. | |
