at various locations through work, vacation home, and office i use systems from roadrunner, verizon dsl, speakeasy dsl, earthlink dsl.
for my home i have had verizon and roadrunner.
now i'm on bway and that's where i'm going to stay.

i've been a bway customer for dial-up and website hosting for something approaching ten years and over that time i have been 100% satisfied with the reliability, access, and professionalism of the company for those needs.

for various reasons, mostly to do with network topology issues, when i moved i did not initially choose bway as my high-speed internet provider.

    this was a BIG mistake.

dealing with verizon was like wrapping a brick in a lemon rind and whacking myself about the head with it. roadrunner went out with such reliability that down-time was greater than up-time by days.

i finally re-worked my network and called up bway.
almost instantaneous set-up with covad (only problem was covad did not e-mail me the tracking number for the self-install kit but that didn't mean it wasn't sent out exactly when bway said it would be) and spectacular customer service.

i've been on bway for a few months now and can say several things:
    1) the speed is EXACTLY as advertised, no overhead, no nothing, just rip-roaring fast.
    2) i am the ONLY person in my apt. building that has not had connectivity drop-out since switching to bway.
    3) their customer service is second to none. i had problems with my line for the first few weeks (verizon issues) and bway stayed on top of it to make sure i got the speeds and reliability that i was paying for.
    4) bway seems to actually take pride in treating their customers well and helping them with any issues. being a bway customer i don't feel like i some faceless account number that gets billed regularly, i feel like i hold some value for them.

    i cannot recommend bway enough.
i've personally been on several networks and occasionally deal with several more.
bway is the most reliable, the most stable bandwidth, the most true to speed network that i have ever experienced and they have by far the best customer care people out there.

"Will NEVER change ISP again, recommend them to all my clients"

Bway's most significant differentiator is CUSTOMER SERVICE. Unrivalled, unqualified, personal and effective customer service. One of the greatest things about the service they provide, is that it is as organized and efficient as a large company, yet as personal and direct as a neighborhood shop. That combination is unbeatable. World-class service, from James, Joe, Dan and all the others. There is not better feeling than being able to speak to the same polite knowledgeable person every time you call.

I have been a customer just under 3 years for a business account. I have also had a home-office account for over a year. I have recommended them to several home users and businesses. I ONLY recommend bway, when I am asked about ISPs.

I am a "power-user": I use IPv6 (6to4), QoS and traffic-shaping, a static IP *network* (/29), run web servers, run mail servers, host my own authoritative DNS. I use my Internet connection to telecommute (for about a year now) and therefore need:

    - Reliability

    - Speed

    - No restrictions (ie, I can run servers)

    - Technical expertise

Bway has excelled in providing all of the above.

    - During my first installation, there was a mixup with the delivery company. My DSL modem was late, and I would not have Internet for the weekend. I was desparate, 'cause I had an important project to finish. I asked if I could somehow pick the modem up myself, as bway was about 15 minutes from where I lived. One of bway's people used his lunch-break to DROP OFF THE MODEM AT MY HOUSE. What can I say: Wow!. I am sure this is a very uncommon occurence, and it will likely NOT happen to you. But try to imagine ANY of the other ISPs profiled on this site doing something like that.

    - When Verizon messed up my line, they worked non-stop to get it back up. They proactively called me with status updates and hounded Verizon to meet appointments and deadlines.

    - When Covad reduced my line speed accidentally, bway didn't say "the speed is not guaranteed, and anyway 928/384 should be enough!". They did not say "It's covad's fault, we can't do anything about it". Bway took immediate action to fix it.

    - When I asked for*delegation* of the in-addr.arpa zone for my /29, they did not say "Wha?" or "That is not our policy". In 24 hours, I was the authoritative DNS for my reverse lookups. I was stunned by their speed and accomodating attitude. They didn't even charge me!! This is typical of bway. I am not special in this regard as I have seen that they provide such sophisticated custome services to a number of customers. Bridging, subnets, custom router configs, DNS delegation etc.

I have been on the Internet since 1987 (UUCP/dialup). I founded one of the first ISPs in my home country in 1989. I have used over a dozen ISPs in the last 15 years. I have researched and consulted on telecoms and ISPs and I have provided recommendations for my clients. I am a pretty experienced customer and this is what I can say with great confidence:

Bway is, by a large margin, the best ISP I have ever used. All their products from the lowest cost dialup to the professional SoHo 3Mbit DSL are competitively priced and offer abundant value for money. They are honest, straight-talking, friendly and reliable. Their customer service is unparalleled in the industry. If you are a newbie, you cannot find a more friendly and helpful bunch of people to get you started. If you are a pro, bway is a very sophisticated ISP who will accomodate the needs of a business user.

IM me at marvborg (AIM) with questions!

PS. I have no personal or professional association with bway, other than using their service.

Im semi-retired but a complete computer novice. I thought dialup was ok until I got a digital camera and tried to send a bunch of photos, it took hours. So I asked Bway if I could change to DSL, and about a week later the package arrived. They went step by step with me on the phone to change my settings and it worked 1st time. What a difference!

Ive only had DSL since October but so far no problems. Im glad to recommend them.

Recent addition to our family meant working from home for a few months. My wife's MIS department said we needed a "static IP". We (non-techies) had no idea what that was -- Bway did, and we had one the same day. They walked us through the setup. Easy.

Thats all we could ask for -- thats why we didnt want to deal with the phone company or cable folks. We now know we made the right choice.

Such a relief to find that every once in a while, something *is* as easy as it looks on paper. What I love about Bway.net is these guys will answer your questions one after another, without any spin, fuzzy logic, or attitude. They're really up front about stuff and it's not hard to get them on the phone. Usually the phone rings, one of them picks up, and you have support. No music, no buttons to push. Awesome.

I forgot the exact time from the order to the activation, I think it was just shy of a week. What I remember was, it was scheduled to come up on a monday, and to my satisfaction it came on the Friday before in the afternoon!

We had been using one of the TW cable providers, which gave us high speeds that were pretty impressive with file downloads. But the line cut out constantly and *literally* every 15 minutes I had to run upstairs and unplug/replug the modem. We carried on with TW to try and fix it, did everything they asked, and ran through the same total BS with them 15 times in a row over months and months. They would keep us waiting, not show up, blame it on our equipment, whatever they could to avoid taking responsibility. "Hey, I'm telling you man, we did this procedure 10x already." No matter. Every time we called them they would insist on running through the same hour long drill even though we both knew it was BS and wouldn't work. We had to start from scratch with a different tech every time. What a total circus.

Now the service has been up 2-3 months. It's reliable, it works, the speed is good, happiness.

My previous review is a little old. I wanted to update it. Today is Jan 24, 2004. Bway have continued to provide the same level of excellent service. As always, the bottom line for me is staying operational with good speed. Previous ISPs gave me headaches. The DSL market has improved since the old days - but even then, bway was an island of calm in a sea of storm. (I serve - I have three domains and my setup is that I have unix servers here, and bway merely is the glue from my servers to the rest of the internet. Plus, they handle my email. So, I am not like the typical client who does not serve, or uses their ISPs servers to serve. I have my own servers. I've got a handful of domains.)

Bway has updated their email server, as of this week. It was a change which was needed. The old server was slow and the software didn't provide much spam filtering. This one's faster and, upon further review, the spam filtering seems state of the art. But Bway's mail server is faster than Earthlink's. Very often, my connection to Earthlink's email will timeout without connecting. 30% of the time. Maybe 20%. Sometimes its worse. There have been days when I can't get my mail from Earthlink. Once it was a whole week. With Bway, the server works 99.999% of the time, and the speeds are really fast now, with the new service they just put in. It's as fast as if it was connected on my LAN.

So, I stick with Bway, because they provide a service which works, and has worked for a long time now. They weathered a period in which so many IT companies went under, and they seem to have come out on top. I have faith in them.

Oh btw - customer support is good. I'm always on a first name basis with the guys over there. Guys like John, Ajai. Ajai has helped me out a lot lately with questions. He gets back to me the next day after I email him, all the time. Even over the holidays.

Another thing that has impressed me - Bway retains its people. It has brought in a couple of new ones, but the employees there seem really loyal, and vice versa, which is a good sign. Customer satisfaction starts at the top. I don't think I've ever heard that someone "no longer works here".

    ---------

    (this is an older review)

I won't even talk about COVAD and VERIZON. That's another issue, and every bad thing I've read about them is true. It's one of the worst service industries in America. I've spent days, even cut short a vacation, waiting to meet service repairmen who either never arrived or didn't complete their work.

I've been with BWAY since November 2001. The ping times to my router (from an external 32k dial up connection with another ISP) are always under 200ms, usually between 150ms and 180ms. This is consistent even during peak hours. I never had that kind of performance from my prior ISP. Just to give you an idea, my prior ISP never had me below 220ms, and would often wander well above 1000ms during prime time (from that aforementioned external 32k dial up connection). When I ping other servers on the web, the performance from the best of them is no better than what I get right now.

When it came to migrating my domain name/static IPs/DSL configuration, which was a lot to do in one shot, the first guy I spoke to at BWAY basically told me I was up a river without a rowboat if I expected this to be a smooth transition. However, as they passed the issue up their technical ladder, they found a guy who had an ingenious solution that made my multi-step migration to BWAY one which required zero down time. I got personalized, custom performance from people who remembered who I was each time I called up - this is why I choose a local ISP over a humungous national ISP.

A ten or twenty dollar monthy price differential is unimportant to me when it comes to finding a reliable ISP to help me serve pages (it's actually my web servers, but BWAY is the ISP via DSL (192kb/sec bidirectional). It costs $150/hour to rent a competent software consultant. If you want to have a team of dedicated, reasonably courteous professionals performing quality custom work on your lifeline to the Internet, and you want the ISP's technical staff to remember you on a first name basis (and your technical hassle) every time you call up, then don't gripe about excess pricing.

It is true that BWAY doesn't have people actively answering technical calls at night. They don't rush my requests through as I call them in. Rather, they wait until 7pm, when they must be putting through batch updates. The one problem with that is that they go home after the updates, so if anything has gone wrong with the order, you'll have to wait 24 hours for the next 7pm update. While this may seem inconvenient to users, what I see is that BWAY is maintaining control over their process, which is vital to success. The calm manifests itself whenever I call up.

We are a small media company on Madison Avenue, highly dependent on stable Internet access. If we don't have access, we're out of business.

Our DSL service with Qwest disappeared when they shut down operations in November. I negotiated new service with Covad directly, but from July through December, they were unable to get Verizon to install a circuit.

For months, Verizon techs would come, scratch their heads, then go away. Covad would then cancel our order, and I would have to call up their 800 number, explain the situation (again) and start over.

Finally, we lost our Internet entirely. I hurriedly rigged up a wireless connection to a helpful client's network while I tried to work through Covad and other ISPs. One provider wanted thousands of dollars to hook us up with a supposed inbuilding T1 (probably just some bandwidth on their existing circuit).

Verizon insisted that there was no facility available, Covad couldn't get them to commit to fixing the situation. I was stuck.

That's when I turned to Bway.net. (I know this sounds like a cheesy commercial, but what the hell--it's true.)

Although I had seen their ads in the subway, I had never dealt with them. But their name came up in a search here on dslreports. In desperation, I sic'ed them on the problem.

Within a month, we had the Verizon circuit that Verizon hadn't been able to deliver for 6 months previously. 3 days later, we have the router and are up.

    Bottom line:

I have been working with the Internet for nearly 20 years. I've worked with many suppliers. I've even run a small business-oriented ISP.

Bway.net is the most professional and proactive supplier I have dealt with in years. The ability to call them directly and get through to the same account rep: priceless.

Oh, and the client that was providing us piggy-back service for two months? He's moving later this year and I'll be letting Bway.net handle the move to service at the new location.

I confess that Bway.net was our fourth try. Not because they weren't highly rated, but because I thought a bigger company would suit our needs better. I was so wrong, wrong, wrong.

Verizon offers a phone discount (we are bound by a Verizon voice service contract) with DSL service. So I signed up. Months, yes MONTHS later, after contacting them daily, I got their bad news: They installed fiber lines yet only offer ADSL (on copper lines). Yes, they installed the lines, they sat on our DSL order for months, and one hand didn't know what the other hand was doing. This is what you get from a big company.

Next I contracted with Cyberonic, another nationwide provider, whose team was constantly confused. A month later, they said they had no room for us. So I contacted Conversent, whose main office said they don't offer DSL in our area (contradicted by the local sales rep who called me days later).

Bway.net staff was personable, well informed, and knew the ins-and-outs of the local telco (Verizon). They know that large co's see a roadblock and just stop. Bway.net does not stop trying. They found that we did in fact have copper and not fiber. When I called Verizon, they said - er...yes actually you have copper, but you have a bridge tap which we can't remove, you just can't get DSL service...blah, blah, blah...

Well, 6 days later, Bway.net got us our DSL connection.

Please give them Bway.net try. We are very happy.
