I was openning a Cyber cafe in New york and needed SDSL at 1.5 megs per second. All the other companys I tried had long waiting periods or were to expensive. Some did not even respond to my querries. I was up against a deadline and Bway.net told me they would try and get me service within a month. They got it for me in 12 days which I think is a record in New York. I was able to open my Cyber cafe with broardband connections for my customers thanks to Bway.net. The cost for their service is $450 dollars a month for a static IP address at 1.5meg SDSL, which is a lot less than what a T1 line would have cost me. My service has been up and running for 2months without any problems. I could not ask for more.

    Subject: Bway.net

    Hi there:

I'm the CEO of a small systems consulting firm in Manhattan. As part of
my job, I must ensure that our customers are getting a good deal with
whoever is providing them a Covad or Northpoint circuit, and that the customers
can subsequently get good tech support if they ever need it.

I've had 12 installations with Bway.NET. Most of them went quite
smoothly, and the service has been up and running with no significant complaints
since. I have two more scheduled, and have the greatest confidence that
they will do right by the customer.

When there were long ping times, I called Bway.Net's tech support line,
and they had resolutions for me far more quickly than most other ISPs I deal
    with.

Bway.Net is based in New York City (dsl@bway.net, www.bway.net,
212-982-9800), and has been wonderful both to me and to my customers.

Thanks for having such a wonderful site, so full of good information,
    Dana

Value for money:

After perusing the reviews of bway.net and other ISPs on this site, I decided I should add my 2 cents. I think bway.net is pretty damn good.

First off, let me say I have had no experience with any other DSL provider and at this time can't imagine changing.

I second all the installation horror stories. We ordered DSL from bway.net through Covad in January 200 and were told it could take up to 60 days. Believe me it took every one of those 60 days. Most of the problem was caused by Verizon nee Bell Atlantic, who showed up for the first appointment after dark and couldn't work outside at that point. Then BA missed the next 2 appointments claiming no one was home...yeah right, I just sat there all day and didn't answer the bell. Through it all bway.net was as helpful as they could be under the circumstances. Unfortunately, the order path goes from me, the user, to bway.net the ISP, to Covad the DSL provider, to Bell Atlantic, the idiots who own the telephone company whose wire we are using. Whenever there was a BA foulup, bway.net could get no direct info, because the customer was Covad. That would mean a day to find out what happened and then a week to reschedule. INFURIATING! And we were always getting the info days late and 3rd hand. Ay first I thought it was Bway.Net's problem, but throughout the ordeal they supplied me with all their communications to and from Covad, so I could see they were in the middle without much they could do.

Finally it all came together, BA showed up, installed the line, 2 days later Coved came and setup the modem and it worked right off the bat and has been working ever since.

Whenever we have minor glitches. like when covads probes were being bounced my firewall and we were getting knocked offline, the guys at bway.net were fast and sure about how to fix it. Yes, they are little pricey compared with other ISPs, but don't you think it's worth it when you can call up and say, "Hi this is Fred" and they know who you are? And they remember what problem you may have had in the past and how it was resolved. I give Bway.Net high marks for customer service. My only complaint is that they go home at 7PM. Sometimes that can be very frustating.

Bottom line...I say if you want an ISP who will treat you like a human and get things done, look no further.

"highly recommended, bway.net rocks!"

i have a 608/128 connection from covad through bway.net. i've had it for about a month with no problems at all. circuit is fast as promised and hasn't gone down once yet. highly recommended! took only 3-4 weeks from start to finish, not bad considering all the bottlenecks during installation were hell atlantic's fault!

Bway.net is a "boutique" ISP. Their prices are not the lowest, but their
service is the best I have ever found. When you call with a problem, you
don't get someone who knows less than you do reading from a script ("Well,
sir, have you changed your settings?"). You get an actual person who can
tell you exactly which server or router is having trouble and when it should
be up. They seem to pay a lot of attention to their capacity, b/c the
bandwidth I pay for is always the bandwidth I get. They have a good sense
of the various pitfalls which can derail a DSL installation (in Manhattan,
where much of the telco wiring is pre-WWII, there are many) and they even
seem to keep track of which Covad techs are good and which are not-so.

I can't recommend them highly enough. The best of the best.

    Dear DSL Reports:
I would like to review my isp for dsl, Bway.net. In January 2000 I needed to
wire my office (of 7) for dsl annd contacted several dsl providers. I
needed dsl installed as quickly as possible and within my budget. Of those
providers I spoke to, I am delighted I chose Bway.net. Joe Plotkin was my
initial contact and I was able to establish a very satisfactory working
relationship. Joe empathized with a variety of consumer frustrations
inherent in getting dsl - especially in New York. He told me I would be
first on his list to call, when covad service became available in my area.
And I was. Further, Steve the network technician has shown up here- within
the same busines day- for every issue from my dsl, to my office network.
I could not recommend him more highly.

As a New York City dsl user, (unsupported by an it department), I am
completely dependant on people to provide quick, effective service. I can't
afford to spend the day waiting for problems to be fixed. Business these
days is good for anyone connected with a computer, making it very easy for
them to pick and choose their clients. If they respond well in the good
times, I have every confidence, they will do the same in the bad. These guys
    have never let me down.

Flushing,Queens,NY
Contract price not specified.
"was good two years ago"
"bad customer service and reliability today"
"until they revamp their tech support dept: AVOID THEM"
Tech Support:

I am writing this as a warning for those of you who may be interested in bway.net as your residential DSL ISP. I have been a long time customer of bway.net. For over four years I have had a personal dial-up account with them. For about the first two years, their service and support was very good. I rarely encountered any problems/outages and never really needed to contact tech support. For the last two years, however, things took a turn for the worse. Soon after they upgraded to x2/v.90 service, I started experiencing frequent problems with their dial-up service. Along with some outages, I had frequent connection problems as well as login difficulty. I contacted bway.net in every instance only to receive minimal help. Their common answer was "I'll talk to the system administrator about it" or "sometimes this happens and we don't know why." There were times when the tech support agent took down my phone number for a call-back, but I wouldn't hear from them again unless I called them.

Recently (over the Memorial Day weekend), they have had major server problems that have resulted data loss and day long outage. When I called to inquire about an estimated uptime, a tech support guy asked for my phone number so they could call me back to tell me. Once again, they never did. When the servers were finally back up and I could finally dial-in, I was unable to be authenticated and login. Once again I called bway.net to find out when this would be resolved and they once again asked for my number for a call back (which they never did). Now, today, I am finally able to dial and login, but I still don't have telnet access, something they promised I would have two days ago.

I know this has NOTHING to do with their DSL service and I am NOT a customer of their DSL service. Yet, I have been in the tech support/customer service business for for than two years so I believe I am qualified to criticize their service. I am also a customer who is all too familiar with their poor tech support/customer service and reliability. I would not recommend bway.net as an ISP (dial-up or DSL) due to my poor experience with them. I am happy to say that once my DSL service (with another ISP) is up, I am cancelling my account with bway.net.

I recently took the plunge & signed up for the 608k/128k residential aDSL service from bway.net-- I have had a dial-up account with them for a couple of years, so this was the next step up for me. I was attracted by the free set-up offer, and though the prices ($60/month) aren't the best, I firmly believe you get what you pay for! There occasional glitches with my dial-up account in the past, but fewer problems than other ISPs I've tried. The equipment price could be a lower, but it's competitive so I really can't complain about that.

The staff at bway.net was very helpful in arranging the installation & despite Bell Atlantic's THREE missed visits (please don't even get me started on those bozos!), the circuit finally went hot & I haven't had a problem since. On one instance, I fouled-up some of the tables-settings (or something like that) and called bway.net in a panic. I forget who I talked to, but he was extremely helpful in helping me fix my mess-up. Kudos to that guy.

I'm going to surprise my girlfriend with a DSL installation in her apartment this Novemeber & I will be returning to bway.net.

    thanks.

I have found Bway's dsl connection to be reliable. We have almost no issues since the configuration was finished at the first day or two of service.

I have experienced dramatically less issues than other business user that I know who have signed up with other providers.

Based upon my experience in my office I would consider getting dsl service from bway at home.
