I wanted static IPs. Bway, which has been my dialup ISP for 5 years, took three weeks to answer my question about static IPs, finally telling me that they didn't, couldn't, and wouldn't offer them. So I had to cancel my BA and Covad dates and start again with another ISP. Three weeks wasted. And it's too bad, because I like the people there and the general level of service as a dialup ISP. But they still need to get their DSL act together.

I've been a Bway.net client for years, with services including web hosting and 3 prior SDSL accounts. What amazes me is that Bway has actually *lowered* their prices over the years, and they just advertised a new low cost ADSL product that convinced me to finally get DSL at home. Once again the process was flawless, thanks mainly to their handling of all the details. I opted for a static IP for business purposes, but they can also provide anonymous connections which I think is unique.

I could go on, but since Bway is still sort of a best kept secret, I wanted to let possible clients know about this gem of a company.

"I have a Northpoint circuit and there are some problems on their network--bway sales tried to talk me out of it."
"In general I love DSL, would recommend bway.net to anyone, reserve judgement on Northpoint."

I think my summary is pretty accurate but I am taking the time to do this since I am incredibly impressed with the treatment from my ISP. They are heavily customer service oriented and I really appreciate that. Now if Northpoint would just quit f*cking around with their network...

    Hello DSL Reports:

I signed up for DSL at Bway.net and did notice the problems that they said I
would. Namely Bell Atlantic missed installs, inside wiring issues, etc.

What I did appreciate about Bway.net is the ability to find out what was
going on and having the people at Bway help me understand what I needed to do.

I am up in around 40 days with some minor bumps, but the speed is great and I
have never had any problems with my circuit (knock on wood).

I would rate Bway five stars in each category due to the fact that I had
another order in with some other cheaper company re-selling Northpoint.
There were endless delays, and all I was able to contact was a voice mail box
after I signed up. My time is worth something, and my being on hold or
leaving messages is not worth it to me. My friend has Bell Atlantic ADSL and
can never get anyone to help him...I just laugh.

The human touch is worth a few more dollars per month. They also have an
actual office to visit in SOHO. I like the local NYC touch. I recommend
their services highly. By the way dslreports is a great page!

Every CLEC blames the ILEC. CLECs want the money and want the ILEC to do the work. CLECs will not be a problem with FIOS. Inside wiring is owned and maintained by the building owner.

    Hi

I'm Spec and I want to review Bway.net
I ordered 768/384 from them and it has been a horror story.
First off, it took 2 months from the time I placed the order to the time I was able to go online. I blame this on the coordinating efforts between Bway.net, Covad and Bell Atlantic.
I have an Efficient Networks Speedstream 5250 and the connection and speed is what I expected. To be honest, I don't think I would ever go back to 56k if I had the choice.
However, Bway.net is not the best when it comes to technical support. They close shop at 7:00 PM eastern time and I usually get home to use the internet at about 5-6 PM. Each time I try to call them I usually get told that I would get called back and I usually never do. I tried calling once on the the weekend for technical support and I also got a message stating the place was closed but I did leave a message and did get a callback only to find out that I should call on Monday for support.

    ADDENDUM (3/17/00)
I have changed some of the values for the categories regarding bway.net. Their tech support still closes at 7 pm and they really should have it available 24hrs but when a problem occurs they do thier best to fix it as fast as possible so I switched their tech support from a 1 to a 4. I still have mIRC problem but bway.net is well aware of my problems and they are trying fix it as I am writing this.

Their Pricing is another matter I wanted to address. Although they reduced their monthly charges from 109.99 to 99.99, they are still on the pricey category for me considering that I've seen similar connections available for 79.99. I changed the value for money category from a 1 to a 3 because they dropped their montly charges by 10 dollars.

The connection reliability was changed to 5 because the internet connection is VERY reliable. If I could, I would give them 100 stars for this.

    ADDENDUM (3/20/00)

After some monumental efforts from Bway's tech support, I have re-rated them. Overall their are definately willing to go out of their way to try and help folks and this user appreciates this more than anything else. So, after 4 months, I am satisfied with them.

Thought I should let you know about my experiences with bway.net and
    Flashcom.
Ordered service from Flashcom in September, got it in November after a
few scheduling problems with Covad - not Flashcom's fault.
When I did get the line installed everything worked quickly after I
spoke to the Flashcom technician. After that web access was great
but.... their mail server was nearly always down. I have to shift large
video files around--one of the reasons I subscribed in the first place.
After a month of this I couldn't take it any more and requested an ISP
switch to my dialup provider, bway.net who was also providing DSL now.
    Silence from Flashcom.
Trying to cancel the service was like a scene from the movie Brazil,
with each department--whenever I managed to speak to one which was
rare--claiming another had the responsibility for canceling and didn't
know how to perform an ISP switch. There was a cancelation form hidden
on their web site--no links to it, you had to be told the URL, but the
script was down and wouldn't submit the form. Faxes, email and voice
messages went unanswered. Things were also complicated because I didn't
want to cancel the circuit, just switch the service provider. Basically,
all Flashcom had to do was tell Covad it was OK for bway.net to take
    over the service.
At the end of my tether, I contacted the BBB in Orange County wher
Flashcom is located. Like a bolt of lightening, suddenly my phone calls
were returned, and I was promised the ISP switch would be made. Two
weeks later it happened and I switched from Flashcom's static IP service
to bway.net's dynamic service. Everything is now hunky dory, even though
I'm monitoring my credit card statements to make sure Flashcom haven't
    billed me erroniously.
bway.net works v. well, they are a known quantity to me and you can always
speak to a real, knowledgeable, support person. Web, email and ftp work
up to speed and the dynamic IP seems a more secure solution also.

I had an exceptional experience with bway.net. I placed my order (for a
768/384 Residential line) the first week of November, and I received a committed install date from Bell Atlantic/Covad in just 5 days!

Dan Miller, the Director of Sales, also went out of his way to cancel an
outstanding order I had with *another* ISP that was over 5 MONTHS old. This
old order with another ISP -- a botched "half-install" -- somehow
"resurrected" itself for completion, when bway had scheduled its install for
    me.

Admittedly, there were some delays, but that was because of Bell Atlantic
screw-ups and confusion created by the old order. Dan made a point of
contacting the necessary people, and kept me posted every few days. The
line was installed only a month later, and I haven't had any problems with
it. Dan even called me the evening of the install to ensure that everything
    was okay.

I HIGHLY recommend bway.net, and thank them for their exemplary customer
    service.

After calls to several other providers I decided to purchase SDSL for our agency from Bway.net. The main reason was the thorough and honest answers to my questions from both Dan and Joe in the sales department. Once the order was placed there were problems with both Bell Atlantic and Covad, but the salespeople at bway.net kept me appraised of the delays and their attempts to resolve them. The circuit has been up continuously since installed. We were also given clear assistance for setting up our LAN from their DSL technician. Bway.net also provides DNS, mail and web hosting for us and it's been easy to work with them on all of these issues. They actually answer their phones and remember their clients!

An excellent experience. I can't recommend them highly enough.
