Got booted from DIRECTVDSL and was up within a week with Omsoft! Speed started slow but that was because of SBC "testing" my line. By the end of the first week, I was getting around 137/1400... I am very pleased with the service, and am happy, as well, to support a local business.

    Review for :

    Omsoft Technologies
    802 Second St.
    Davis, CA 95616

I have DSL service through Omsoft since 1 month. I had to switch from
Direct TV DSL when their business went down.

Omsoft has been great during the switch process, also has been very
prompt and responsive to any problem or request I had. I give a five
star for the over all service I received.

I definitely recommend their services to anybody.

Please send me the full review format and I will gladly fill it for
    Omsoft.

    Thank you,

    Erol

    My Other Reviews·Rogers Hi-Speed
I have had service with Omsoft for about a year now, just that I never got around to reviewing them.

I signed up after I lost my Northpoint IDSL line. Got a static IP for $52/mon with no contract. Had to pay $150 for the DSL modem . With Omsoft, I have had consistent speeds, no downtime and really no reason to call for tech support (which is why i can't rate that part of their service). I did have a billing issue with ASI once but Jon @ Omsoft took care of that real quick.

Being an independent ISP, I can only hope that SBC/ASI doesn't try to cut them out of business, I have had a good experience with Omsoft and would hate to see them go.

Update: The news service is GREAT!!

Update: Had some issues with speed dropping. Called Lucas at Omsoft and he fixed it within 5 minutes. I think Omsoft gets too popular at the start of every Fall quarter here at UC Davis.

After leaving PacBell DSL service, I moved over to Omsoft. They took my order and starting working on the release from PacBell. Was able to get service over to them in 5 days (after the release from PacBell, 3 weeks) I started with a single static IP service with 384/128. Since I have added another static IP (same day service) and upgraded my service to 768/128 (cant get 256 at my location). There was a little delay on the service upgrade, taken care of once I notified the manager. News service is real fast!! Dont use the dial-up account much, only for testing. In home hardware is a Cayman 3220h with a Netscreen 5 firewall. VPN works great too. Over all, service is great !!!

Ordered Static IP DSL on Oct. 2nd 2001.
Bought Internal PCI Modem($99) on Oct. 5th 2001
DSL went Live on Oct. 16th 2001

IF you have any questions, they'll BE THERE to answer the phone, NO waiting on HOLD, EVER! (in my experience.)
ALSO, I really appriciated the fact that they have more then 1 option on DSL equitment. I didn't need the External Ethernet Modem for $189 because i am just using the DSL with one comp, so i saved $90 and got the PCI Modem.

The quality of the DSL is also excellent. Omsoft guarentees 384k-1.5mbps/128k

I just tested at 747k down and 134k up.
Bottom line, if you live in Davis more likely then not you'll be able to get Omsoft DSL(Mace Ranch just went online too!) so, you'd be stupid not to choose Omsoft.

I ordered a 384 kbps-1.5 mbps/128 kbps static IP line from Omsoft earlier this month. The order process is very simple. There is almost always someone there to pick up the phone, and there are no 45 minute wait times, like I had when I ordered directly from Pacific Bell and tried to get tech support.

The install process was fairly simple. The hardware is an infinilink modem, and I put a Linksys router behind it. When I first installed the modem, my line would not sync. Omsoft was able to get an ASI tech out to my house (who actually showed up, on-time too), and he thought my modem was faulty. Well, I realized that one of my phone lines did not have a filter on it. I placed a filter on the line, and that has apparently solved my line trouble. The modem has been working great since. Omsoft was willing to replace my modem, and offered to send a tech out to do it, which was nice, but not needed.

I'm not sure how reliable this connection will be, but I've had PacBell DSLl in the past, and that line rarely went down. Since Omsoft uses PacBell lines, it will probably be fine.

I'm experiencing good speeds. My last speed test came to 1273/109 kbps.

Another thing I like about this provider is that they are small, and have an office in my town. I was able to pick up my equipment, rather than have it shipped to me.

Disclaimer: This is a review of my mother's DSL line, which was ordered by and is paid for by the City of Davis. As a result, I don't have all relevant details for a review, but as her dedicated technical support person I'm in a position to give a mostly informed review.

Speed: 384K down, 128K up - installation is very far from the CO

Price: Unknown - the City pays for it

Ordering and installation was relatively painless, but took a while. I believe this delay was because the City had internal miscommunications.

Home equipment is a Westell Wirespeed DSL bridge and a Netgear SOHO NAT router

Static IP - 1 IP address

Support is responsive and helpful, but rarely needed.

Service only goes down when the power is out, as far as we can tell. However, we do not monitor the line 24/7.

Omsoft partners with Davis Community Network (»www.dcn.davis.ca.us/), a local community-benefit non-profit organization. It is for that reason that we went with Omsoft, and we haven't regretted it.

found out about them from 2 reviews in dsl reports. i did not want to go with pac bell as provider even though i knew that pac bell lines are used. i had some bad experiences with pac bell in the past (poor access to support, install times, etc).

they promised install in 14 days, but had it done in 7. a call to them fot tech support or general info gives you a human almost all of the time. the line is reasonably dependable (occasional disconnects, rare outages). they promised 384 kbps/128 kbps. random testing gives me slightly lower on the download, and faster on the upload. i have not yet tried to tweak.

$52 for static address, much cheaper than pacbell.

their web site is sparse with info. you have to be somewhat computer saavy or get someone to help. not like signing up with a big nat'l company where they really spell things out for you. i was able to configure the westell modem and nic with no problems, but setting up the proper mail names through me a curve.

all in all i am very pleased with their service. they are a strong, small company that services mainly the davis, ca area, but, to the best of my knowledge, the only provider other than pacbell in my area.

Value for money:

I recently signed up for and actually received DSL service from Omsoft (www.omsoft.com) in the Shingle Springs area of El Dorado County (CA). I've tried to obtain DSL from PacBell several times without success. PacBell says they can provide, then can't provide service. My friends and neighbors who use PacBell say they can connect and use DSL "sometimes". They have a valid connection but PacBell servers don't authenticate them or assign an IP address or PacBell domain names servers and mail servers are "unavailable". Because of this, when PacBell sent me a mailing that DSL was finally available (really, trust us) in my area I decided to try a different ISP (even though they use PacBell wires).

I've been VERY happy with my service so far.

Omsoft is a small ISP based in Davis California that offers DSL in my area. I talked directly to the General Partner at Omsoft who was helpful and addressed my needs (no, I'll have to transfer you to ). What a pleasure to deal with a small but efficient company that understands customer service.

I received my self install hardware, set it up, called Omsoft to let them know I was ready (about a week before the scheduled delivery date), and bang, I was up and running. I'm about 16,500 feet from my CO so I was concerned about speed but am getting consistent 300+ kbps downloads and 100+ kbps uploads (not the best, but dependent on PacBell wires and distance from the CO). I'm also getting rock solid servers (mail, DNS ) that have never once caused a problem.

I've only had the service for about a week so it's too early to tell if this is "normal" or not but based on my friends and neighbors experiences I am delighted.

Also, Omsoft offers a static IP address for about $50 so I don't have to mess with any "dynamic problems".

    My configuration is:
SMC Barricade DSL/Cable router (which works great)
3 Macs (2 running MacOS 9.X and 1 running Linux)

This set-up rocks! I am delighted so far

I first contacted Omsoft on 3/27/00 to ask about the possibility of DSL. On 4/11/00 I was up and humming. Contrast this with the horror stories people have been telling here about going directly through PacBell!

I have a static IP (PacBell direct customers are getting PPPoE these days...) coming through an Alcatel ADSL 1000 modem. After a couple of lapses in the first month the connection has been trouble-free. 128kbps/1.5Mbps is what I signed up for. Tonight I tested at 117kbps/1.254Mbps here at DSLReports.com

For $51.50/month I get 1 static IP, 5MB of web space, and 2 POP email accounts.

There is no such thing as a phone queue at Omsoft- all my calls are answered immediately and tech problems or changes are taken care of right there on the phone.

I highly recommend Omsoft Technologies! Especially compared to the shabby treatment fellow Davis, CA residents seem to be getting at the hands of PacHell.
