They claim that the connection is 2800k download but I easily get 3000+ on every test. Came and istalled the equipment quickly and efficiently as well as explaining how it all works and fits together. I would recommend getting a router to share the connection as well as for the firewall. We have almost never lost the signal except for a problem with corrosion on the wires connected to the receiver. They provide a static IP and you can sign up for additional IPs for an added cost.

I ordered DSL off of PA.net on their website. I got
a confirmation call 2 days later. The modem came in the mail the next
Monday. Then, I just had to wait for Sprint to activate my line. It
took a couple days but finally the light was green and I was getting
sync. I ordered the 512/128 package. The price is a little much, but
for living out in the country surrounded by cornfields in the suburbs of
a small town, i'm very happy to have it. I set up my linksys router on
it and got all of my computers connected. On online games my ping times
are as low as 50 in servers in Maryland (i live in pa). I download at
around 70kb/s using DAP. Overall I am very satisfied with PA.Nets
service and their tech support is awesome and easy to reach. It fixes
my problems of slow online gaming, phone line in use, and just plain out
slowness. You guys may laugh at my speed, but I am very happy with it,
    it kicks ass!

    Update 8/3/2003

It's been two weeks or so since I finally switched over to Earthlink.net/RR cable, and I have not looked back since. Preformance is so much better and more consistent that SBBD ever was. I can't believe I lived through this service, and I'm glad to be off of it.

    End Update 8/3/2003

    Update 4/21/2003

I am so glad that I'm at a university now. SBBD has degreaded immensily since my initial review. There are massive outages for no reason, horrible lagging in games, and even disconnects in AIM, which is unacceptable. Road runner is now avaliable in my area, and as soon as the contract expries, my dad is going to jump ship to RR. I will have to experience SBBD for only three more months now when I go home for the summer; I will actually order it early and pay out of my pocket to get rr service.

    End Update 4/21/2003

Ordered 3 week on July, got initial install date of 9/19/2001. Got a call and moved up to August 9.

Installed without event, and after tweaking, excellent d/l speeds.

I know SBBD is not for games, but the weird thing is that when I lag, everyone else is still moving.

A lightning stome took out my wireless modem. Called, came 2 days later, and replaced without even.

The only really bugging thing is that when tech support is busy, its really busy. I was on hold one time for over 1 hour, and I simply gave up. Otherwise, only 7min hold.

    Overall, excellent service.

    Update: 07-14-2003
Speeds are around 1.5mbps downstream and 30 to 70kbps up
packetloss is a little higher than normal for the last 2 weeks making surfing unbearable as with anything else. DNS page not found errors, not sure if thats due to the dns servers or the packetloss.
email: dont use earthlink's email so i really cant fairly evaluate it.
news: dog slow. i use a premium provider for news. (does any ISP do news well anymore)?
Until Cox cable fixes the issues in my 'hood there will be no cable for me (dishes and antennas litter the rooftops in this area)

    Update 11-18-2002
My contract has since expired. Price has been raised another $5.00/month. taking it from $49.95 per month to $54.95 per month. speed: speeds have dropped drastically since the last review. averaging from anywhere 500kbps to 2mbps download and 0 to 40kbps upload. packetloss: its been horrid since they moved from Genuity (bbnplanet) to sprintlink (their own backbone) pings on their routers go anywhere from 500ms to 2000ms to timing out. downloads are still fast enough but the packetloss ruins the surfing abilities of the service. one should enjoy surfing, not thinking "man i outta hook my 56k modem back up. Anyway my only other option is satellite (thanks but no thanks).

    Original review:
I've had this service about a year now so i feel i can give them a fair review.
Installers showed up 15 mins early to set it up. There were 2 of them, one doing the outside work, one doing inside. I got the nice looking 6 inch roofmount. no ugly mast. They wanted to run the cable through a window instead of drilling through wall (everyone knows you dont leave windows open when you live in south phoenix)
The inside guy setup the modem on his laptop. Modem is a Hybrid (dark grey) with power supply thats a strip hog.
IP is static, you get one. you can buy additional IP's for $9.95/mo extra
Salespeople were friendly and up front about gaming, servers and VPN.
Modem and antenna were $199 with a one year contract.
Didn't rate email or news because i seldomly use them.
Speeds quoted were 1500kbps downstream, 256 upstream. after tweaking speeds average around 3000 to 5000kbps down and 50 to 110kbps up on average.
speeds seemed to get slower and instability seemed to increase after they stopped taking new customer orders around august 2001.

Well where should I start? I could go on for
hours about their wonderful service!! I first checked into it early in June,
then I decided to order it on June 27, 2001. They offered a good service, saying
the speeds would be about 512kbps-1.5mbps, for a fairly good price of just 49.95
a month, 39.95 a month with Sprint Long Distance and 9.99 a month for additional
IP Addresses (yah right, that's what a broadband router is for), with the
install fee waived. The equipment was cheap enough, 299 if you go on a month to
month contract, 199 for a 12 month contract, and 99 if you go for a 24 month
contract. So I decided to go for the two year contract, and even changed my long
distance to Sprint (saved some big $$$ there!) So they set an install date of
July 3, 2001 between 3 and 7 PM. They showed up at 3:15 PM on he scheduled day,
and the install took less than 3 hours (I did give them a hand being an involved
person) I had never before seen anything above 56k modem running at

Sprint advertised a speed rating of 1000/128.. However, I typically get 3200/160.. bad down/up ratio, but it's enough to get the high-speed download.. Off-peak hours can reach speeds in excess of 4000k.. Just to make it better, I get a static IP to boot.. Installation went smoothly, though I was one of the last customers in the Houston area to get this service.. Though Sprint's acquisition of new customers has been suspended, their customer service hasn't deminished yet.. When I need my antenna mast rasied from a 5-ft to a 10-ft mast, they did it, no questions asked.. Even their phone customer support is still running smoothly.. Even when there's a network problem at the worst hours, they're there to fix it, or at least start to fix it.. In all, I would recommend it for anyone that doesn't mind a steel tripod mounted on your roof.. I WON'T disconnect unless I was forced to..

"packet loss"
"Good service for browsing and downloading files. Happy with it."
Pre Sales Information:

Value for money:

Installation was professional with no problems. Few service problems. In two years, service was down four or five times and then for less than 30 minutes.

Very fast downloads, but variable. Somedays slow, but then reverts to higher speed. High latency and packet loss are problems on many ocassions. Other times very low latency and packet loss are observed. Would not want to be a gamer and use sprint.

Sprint BBD has been great for our family. Hope it continues in business.
