The only reason the "time from order to live" was so long was that I had been a member (victim?) of another ISP. They went bankrupt suddenly, without warning, and I couldn't get my phoneline "de-provisioned".
Fortunately, this situation was rectified eventually, and shortly afterwards Cruzio got me up and running. Since I already had the modem from my previous ISP, there was no setup required on Cruzio's part.
Since then the service has been nearly 100% reliable. The one time it's been down was a PacBell problem, and Cruzio's Support line had that info immediately, so I knew it was being worked on, and had a good idea of when I'd be back online.
It's rare to have such a great experience with an ISP. Such companies typically cannot deal effectively with the flood of customer issues that naturally occur (leading to long hold times, poor service and unhappy customers). Somehow, Cruzio has figured it out. Rock on!

I was a Northpoint customer. I had a nightmare with PacBell a year ago. They lost my order at least 12 times. When Northpoint went down, I switched to Cruzio and have never been happier. They promise a 384 d/l and 128 u/l speed. I get much more.
I have 3 or four different Cruzio dial-up accounts for various customers and I am now trying to convert them to DSL. Again, Cruzio is always voted number in internet providors in our local newspapers. I wonder why, nah, I know why. Keep up the good work Cruzio.

"I didn't have to deal with Pac Bell or make any changes to my email account, as I already was a Cruzio customer."

I was affraid of Pac Bell, but since I only needed to deal with Cruzio, it was totally painless. It took a total of 2 weeks from order to delivery of phone line and modem, filters, etc. Then I did a self install.
I am very close to the CO, about 4300 ft.
Speed 1137(down)/106(up) kbps (At least 22 times faster than a 56k modem)
So, far I am totally thrilled.
I wanted to clarify the filter thing. You.... can... have any number of phone jacks, but the ones that you actually use, must have a filter..and supposedly no more than 5. The jack which goes to the modem, only needs a filter if you have other equiptment plugged into it, such as a phone, answering machine or fax. If that jack is just for the modem...NO FILTER. Cruzio's only error, was in telling me that any phone jack, regardless of if it was going to be used or not, needed a filter and that any jacks that I had, beyond, would probably need to be removed. That was incorrect.

CRUZIO
CRUZIO is the best ISP I have ever had the pleasure to work with, and I've worked with many. The level of support is just amazing and always prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. I have been a customer for five years, since they were a tiny mom and pop start up. Over the years they have become the biggest service provider in Santa Cruz (Silicon Beach) but they haven't lost the small store personal touch that led to their success. They constantly invest in keeping their hardware up to date and cutting edge. You'll never get a busy signal or sit on hold here.
I was a dial-up customer for five years and a DSL customer for three months now. Unfortunately, for the past month, I have experienced on-going problems with the DSL (provided by ASI, a Pac Bell subsidiary) connection. It wasn't until I had problems that I fully realized how great Cruzio's service department really is. Once I made them aware of the problem, they fully assumed responsibility and took over all aspects of the resolution. No waiting on hold listening to the TELCo's elevator music for Cruzio's customers. They handle all of that and constantly kept me posted of the status and even regularly call to ask if I am having any further problems. I could not be more satisfied with their handling of the problem.
If you're lucky enough to live in the coolest city in the US, you also get to have the coolest ISP, »www.cruzio.com!

CRUZIO is the ISP, PacBell has the phone equipment. CRUZIO is $10.95/mo.(any term); PacBell adds $39/mo.(1 year committment). I was a CRUZIO dialup customer with a dedicated phone line. Now that phone line's gone and CRUZIO charges half as much! Same great full ISP service. They sell 384kDOWN/128kUP ADSL but it's much faster than that. Have gotten up to 1.5Mbps downloads. Very smooth install on 12/23/99. CRUZIO ordered the PacBell install with Cayman 3220H "modem/router/4 port hub" PacBell option for me. Sweet unit. Worked from 1st connect onward with no problems. Uses WAN DHCP (dynamic) but still have initial IP address. CRUZIO tech support great too. Actual local humans with genuine concern. CRUZIO has done their homework and built the needed infrastructure. They're in it for the long haul. I'm a happy camper. Highly recommended! --Cap Pennell
