I ordered Cyberonic in December 2002 to replace my SBC ADSL due to crappy service and support. I was ~6K ft from the CO (being in San Francisco proper, I still had lousy noise margins on ancient copper, so I couldn't sustain a 3.0x768 connection) The reviews and word of mouth on dslreports.com put Cyberonic in a very favorable light, so I decided to take a chance with the 'little guy'. Service was great at that residence for 2 years, despite not being able to get more than 1.5x768.
In November 2004, I moved again (still in SF) and notified Cyberonic that I would need a new line provisioned on the new ATT/SBC land line. Having installed a DSL splitter at the MPOE/NID, I was only able to get 1.5x768 once again, but it only took 9 days for the line-sharing order to be completed. (aside: the aging copper loops in the SF Bay Area are _deplorable_ -> I mean - truly awful.)
Everything had been good for ~2 years at the new residence until Cyberonic was forced to move their customers off of the UUNet backbone and on to the Covad backbone. I was sent a Brodexent Briteport 8120 at that time, but was able to still use my Efficient SpeedStream 5861 with a little reconfiguring however I was not longer getting true Bridged ADSL. I was provided with instructions how to telnet the Speedstream 5861 to set up a PPPoA connection (or, really, PPPoE over PPPoA) and in 5 minutes I was online again.
Since the switch to Covad in January 2006, my line has been slowly degrading in quality. Most recently (within the last 2 months) the 5861 started losing sync for extended periods of time, or at times the WAN side would disconnect but the modem failed to notice or attempt to authenticate and reestablish a WAN connection forcing me to power cycle of the modem. Occasionally I would need to turn the modem off for 3-10 minutes before trying again as the WAN session often refused to reconnect with a basic power cycle.
In an attempt to make a long story short (for what that's worth), I have been troubleshooting the line for the past 2 months with Cyberonic, Covad, and ATT.
Swapping to the 8120 didnt help. A new speedstream 5681 didnt help (but I couldn't even log into it in order to configure it as the default login seemed to have been changed, so who knows if it would have). Covad even swapped the cards out at hte CO in an effort to improve margins, but my line distance was still fluctuating between 9600 ft and nearly 12,000 ft. I'm not sure if it was ATT/SBC or Covad ultimately, but I definitely has a Layer2 issue.
I broke out a box of CAT5e and pulled a new run from the splitter to the modem after removing all internal wiring (IW) from the NID, but for all my efforts, my noise margins only improved by 2-3 dB each way. At least I had eliminated IW as a source of signal leak or noise
Here I am a couple weeks later, and now the line seems stable. The noise margins are still pretty low, but someone somewhere must have done something proper because I am now able to sustain a 3.0x768 connection with the asme lousy margins and (knocking on wood) no sync or WAN drops for the past week.
I'll continue monitoring the line to ensure it is stable for the foreseeable future. I'm just happy as he|| that I don't have to put money in Comcast's coffers for Cable Internet after all, because it was looking like that was what I was going to have to do.. (and I don't even subscribe to basic cable!)
I'll try to remember to update my reviews more regularly - I have been admittedly lazy about doing so. Over all, Cyberonic rocks and gets a 8/10 in my book.

I've had Cyberonic for years. At first the deal was great. $39.99 for 1.5/768 and a static IP. These days that's not so hot. The static is not really an issue for me anymore, and I can get higher speeds at lower costs elsewhere. Also, the service has gotten really unreliable over the last year with lots of drop outs. Over the last week 1.5 has been so unstable that I couldn't use my line. They had to throttle me down to 386/386 to keep me connected.

Service started off satisfactory but went downhill quickly. I'm paying $100/month for a 5 IP Address package. Over the last four months I've had terrible service. Quite a bit of packet loss, DSL flat out down and the biggest issue I have with this company is that they're based on the East Coast and do not provide a 24/7 tech support. Service ends at 9pm here on the West Coast and many times, the DSL just drops out in the evening and won't come back online until around 1am. It's gotten to be suspiciously consistent. They have sent AT&T techs out numerous times, some find an issue but can't figure it out, some find nothing and one guy even fixed a ground issue which had no effect on the service improving.
When asked for any type of compensation or better service, their billing and service department just gives you the run around. Their tech support department while sparse was helpful when I was able to get a hold of them.
All in all, I do not recommend this company. In the end, I'm moving to a T1 line for better reliability and customer service for my business. Their business DSL solution is priced high and their underperforming customer support will serve them right in the long run.

Update 4/18/07
I upgraded to Cyberonic/Covad 6 megs service last year when MCI circuits went under. Speed is very solid and no problem so far. 5 static IPs included.
---------------
My original review:
WOW speed is fantastic. I just love it. I got my new Cyberonic ADSL line yesterday. Speed is very fast for advertised 1.5/768, I am getting close to 1.3/700. I am very excited and never seen such a speed before. I used to have Verizon DSL and the down load was about 1.1 meg but the upload about 100k with Ppoe crap. With Cyberonic I am getting one static IP address with NO PPOE. It took 6 days to receive the router and the kit. I called Cyberonic Technical support; they gave me my IP and email information. The only confusing part was the WorldCom misleading information in the self install kit about how to setup the router beside that I was up in a few minutes. So far everything is going smoothly and Cyberonic seems to be very good. I will update my review when things change.

Update 04-17-07
I am still very happy with Cyberonic and Cyberonic is still cheapest reseller of Covad. I heard Covad is offering bonded DSL with the speed of 12 megs download. I am waiting for Cyberonic to offer that for cheaper.
Update 03-06-06
My 2nd line switched to Cyberonic/Covad. Minimum downtime and fast speed. Download ~5 megs
UPDATED 11-28-05
I am thinking to get a 2nd line, DRYline 6.0/768 and put voip on it. Cyberonic still rock solid with no problem.
--------------------
Updated October 10, 2004 I have Covad Cyberonic ADSL 6.0/768 now. My speed is 5megs/620k - Very happy.
Checkout »speed.cyberonic.com - I called today and the technician referred me to that site. Cyberonic speed check WOW.
-- Updated; May 13, 2004 I got the news from »6.0 megs/768kbs is now available and called them up and switched over. I am paying $39 now but wouldnt mind to pay $59.99 for 6.0/768 deal. For so many years that I've been using Cyberonic I have a no complaints. I will post here when I get my line. The only one problem Covad wont allow Hot Swap from MCI. that's a bummer.
--------------------------------------------------------
Ive been very happy Cyberonic DSL customer for the last 2 years. Service has been very solid with an exception of some minor outages that really didnt bother me. I got the 1.5/768 DSL service for $39.99/mon. For what I pay and comparing to the other companies, I love it. I get 5 times faster speed upload compare to what SBC offer (128k). I have two computers 1 desktop and 1 laptop and both are connected to the router that came with the service. For additional computers, I just need to plug it in and Ill be up. That easy!!!. Cyberonic DSL comes with email addresses but I like to use my Yahoo email so I cant say much about their email service. Technical support and customer services are very friendly and helped me with my few questions. If you are looking for a fast reliable connection, Cyberonic is the place.

UPDATE March 2007: After four years with Cyberonic I switched to FiOS. When I called to cancel Cyberonic they informed me that they had switched my month-to-month plan to an annual contract and that I was responsible for a $250 early termination fee. I don't recall ever seeing a notice to this effect, but whatever....
I can't complain about the four years of decent DSL service, but I feel a bit cheated on the termination fee. Luckily I only needed to pay for an extra month and a half to get to the end of my contract, but it's still $75 for essentially nothing.
Based on this and the fact that I had to find my own email, DNS and news servers (Cyberonic's are useless,) I'm lowering my "value" rank to 2. $49 a month for DSL (even with a static IP) just isn't as good of a deal as it was four years ago. (Oh, and since I'm at the max distance from my clec my 6.0/768 DSL was more like 1.5/384. I know that's not Cyberonic's fault, but it's still pretty slow for $49.)
UPDATE - It's been about 5 months, and everything has been very solid. Cyberonic's billing is kind of weird (they don't seem to bill on any particular schedule.) I haven't had to call customer service since my connection was live. Overall, Cyberonic is a very good deal for the money.
I canceled Speakeasy and switched to Cyberonic on January 15th. I wanted the faster upload speed (Speakeasy was 128kbps max, which translated to about 90kbps of useful bandwidth,) so that I could host some hobby related websites from home. I was also a bit annoyed that Speakeasy started charging extra for news groups. (The most expensive DSL around and newsgroups are extra????)
Most of the problems were due to the fact that Verizon (my telco) would not release my line. Cyberonic initially canceled my order (without telling me) for this reason. It took about 10 calls to Cyberonic to get them to put some pressure on Verizon to get my line released. I found that out of everyone I talked to, only Matt and Shiela were able to help. I think they hired the rest of the team from the McDonald's down the street. If you are having problems with Cyberonic, send an email to DSL@cyberonic.com and put "ATTN: Shiela or Matt" in the subject line. They both seem to work mornings, so try to call early. (If you call after 4:00pm, you will be on hold for hours and the "tech" will be useless.)
Once my line was clear my new DSL was activated very quickly. My Efficient 5861 router came via UPS ground about 5 days later. (Cyberonic was never able to supply me with a tracking number.) I'm happy now. I managed to get them to put my router in bridge mode and give me a static IP address (after about 1 1/2 hours on hold.) I used different DNS then they gave me (UUnet's Boston DNS as primary and NY as secondary.)
Speed is great now. Reliability seems great. I have over 600 kbps of upstream bandwidth, so webservers and shoutcast are no problem. I'm running my own email server, so I can't comment on Cyberonic's mail reliability. (Other posters say it's bad.)
If you just want a fast connection to the internet and don't care about email, DNS, news, or tech support, go with Cyberonic. Don't expect fast email and great tech support for $50 per month. If you need that stuff, try Speakeasy.

I have been a Cyberonic customer for over 3 years, and for the vast majority of that time I have been a very satisfied customer. I first found out about Cyberonic from work. We have multiple offices that are using Cyberonic for VPN connectivity. I had Cyberonic/MCI for almost a year before switching to Cyberonic/Covad. It came with additional 4 IPs for free. So I liked that deal. I needed to connect to my workplace VPN and a public IP address was required for our VPN. Unlike some other DSL providers, Cyberonic doesn't attempt to block any of my ports. The couple of times that I've needed tech support, they have been quick to answer. The big thing with the service is low latency. Latency is a big factor for a good VPN connection and my average is about 40 to 50 ms which is good. My brother has Cable and when I tested his connection, the line latency averages 100 to 120 ms. Cable ping times are getting higher, the speeds are consistently getting slower, and the time that it takes google to load is now on average of about 5-6 seconds and some times longer. So I stick with Cyberonic 1.5/765 DSL connection that flies high. So doesn't matter what your download or upload speed is, the higher latency can make VPN unstable. All in all Cyberonic is a great deal, I enjoy having a connection that offers as much as this one for $39 per month.

When I signed up in 2003, it was a great deal: I got 1.5mb down, 768k up, static IP for $50. Self install was perfect. I also had an option to pre-pay for 18 months for $40 a month. I chose to pay $50 a month because I wanted the option to get out whenever I could--I've had plenty of bad ISP experience.
Cyberonic's good service ran out in Feb 2006 when they switched whatever it was they switched. Instead of first sending me the new modem that was required, they switched something over, and then sent the modem, which arrived more than a week later. So my service is completely down. Calls to tech support 3 times a day for a week were not answered or returned. Constant email ignored. Modem arrives with zero information. Finally I get one email from someone at Cyberonic that gave just enough info to get the new modem working.
So, my mistake was to not look a gift-horse in the mouth, and keep using the service. No one ever called me or asked if it was working... I was that close to cancelling it (it was down anyways), but once it started working again I just let it go.
About a month ago my service starts to get quite horrific. Ping times to Cyberonic's systems are around 1 second, not 20ms. To elsewhere in the world, similar or worse. Now I take action. I do not call Cyberonic to ask them to fix it. They are fired. I get a cable modem.
Here's the kicker--their "new and improved" service in Feb 2006 came with an automatic sign-up for a 1 one year contract! Does anyone know a lawyer that can tell us if that was even legal at all? Isn't that a unilateral contract modification that can't be binding? On top of that, I've STILL been paying the $50 a month I agreed to pay for the month-to-month.
When I call them and cancel the service, they "inform" me of the $99 cancellation fee. I tell them my story, and they ask "why aren't there any service tickets?" How can there be service tickets when no one answers the phone!
I'll just have to see if my credit card can refuse their charge.

This is an update, since I have been with cyberonic for 3 or 4 years now. Original review is at the bottom.
So cyberonic went from MCI/Worldcom to Covad when MCI stopped selling consumer DSL through resellers. At this point, I was on an 18-month initial, then month-to-month contract at $39/month. We were given the choice to upgrade to 3M/768k for $3 more per month, or 6M/768k for $6 more per month.
Initially, I tried to up my speed to 3M, but was having a lot of problems with errors and the line being unstable. This is despite the fact that I live in a 6 year old building, in downtown SF, very close to the CO.
So I went back to 1.5M/768k for stability, since I run my mail server at home and didn't want to be offline for long stretches.
Now, months later, I decided to see if I could get my speed back up. So I requested a boost to 3M. Initially, it worked ok, then the line started bouncing again, just like before. So I called support and they contacted Covad, who did a depro/repro and some tests. After that, the line was rock solid with little or no CRC errors.
Well, a couple days later the bouncing started again. Covad was contacted once again, and fixed the sync problem, but my DSL modem couldn't connect to PPPoE(/A). I got a really bad tech person at Cyberonic this time, she didn't seem to know what PPPoE was, how DSL works, etc, and kept asking me if I could "browse the Internet".
So that time I came on this forum, and got a great Covad tech to fix the line. Cyberonic took me off of interleave mode (though my modem still says it's on interleave), and boosted the speed to 6M/768k, and there are only about 4 or 5 CRC errors/minute with no sync dropouts. This is very counterintuitive, since both of those changes should make things worse.
Anyhow, the bottom line is that the price is still rock bottom, I can run my server(s) with a generous static IPv4 allocation, and the tech support has been mostly good, even though I have to deal with the line problems. Overall I am satisfied, though I really think that in 2006, we should have 100Mb/s ethernet to the home for about $30-40/month, at a minimum. ADSL is so 1995.
-------------- My original review:
1500/768 for $39.95/mo? No brainer!
My order was not without hitches -- I had to call and remind them to send a router, and initially it wasn't synching (but I discovered that was my internal problem). Although I got impatient with a 3 week + wait time, you just can't beat 1500/768 DSL for 39.95 / month.
Cyberonic has tried to be accomodating, though their whole order and fulfillment system is a bit messed up. However, they are reselling Worldcom service, and Worldcom has a huge and robust network (hopefully they won't have to liquidate it under bankrupcy).
Contrasting this service with my old provider, Sonic.net, shows that Sonic is impeccable and Cyberonic is a bit more chaotic. The cyberonic folks are more or less knowledgable depending on luck of the draw as to whom you speak with. However, I was paying $58/mo for 1500/128 with Sonic, and they dont' even *offer* 768k upstream, which I need for my usage.
I have heard some problems with their mail service, but I use my own mail server. And the news server seems to be fine (its domain name is wcnews.cyberonic.com, so I'm assuming the "wc" means it's run by worldcom). Worldcom DNS which they provide works fast and flawless -- my queries are done between 30-120ms. WOW that's a fast DNS! As for network reliability, can't comment on that yet.. but I am getting 1160/612 speeds, roughly in line with what was promised.
Bottom line, Cyberonic is recommended. Yahoo.
Update May 1, 2003
As reported on the Cyberonic and Worldcom forums, there is a severe capacity issue in San Francisco which has been going on for the last month. So I had to downgrade my rating a bit, since I am getting connection speeds in the few-hundred-kb/s range, especially at night.
