This is not Netplex DSL, it is Netplex Dialup service. I keep it as a backup incase Optimum Online is down or having problems. The Best, But I have Optimum Online Now. I finally got rid of Netplex It was rock solid when I had it member for 23.6 years, 5926 visits, last login: 2 days ago updated 5 years ago
Ok ... to clear the record I used to have SNET as the DSL provider and it was good, I had no real complaints except for some latency once in a while that was more than the norm. I had heard of people talking about NetPLEX but never really checked them out because I wasn't having too much trouble. Everything changed when the router at SNET decided to take a trip to Disneyland. The day after it fried I called SNET to ask when it was going to be back up. I spoke to a really nice tech named Maureen and was told that there was no official ETR (oof). I then asked her what I would have to do about switching to NetPLEX and she told me that she could send the info to them and once they got it back from NetPLEX they would cut the PVC over and I would be all set. I was told that the entire process would be about 3 business days. I thanked her and told her to please give me a call at work when they got the info back.. About 3 hours later the phone rang and it was Maureen to tell me that they got the info back to NetPLEX and that I was all set. WOW. Well, I called NetPLEX and set up an account. Very friendly guys, easy to talk to and they really know their stuff. I got home from work, went into the router and disabled the PPPoE, rebooted and . . . . . .nothing. Uh oh. It was about 8:00PM and I frantically called NetPLEX to see what was the matter. I got ahold of a tech almost immediately and we found that SNET had yet to cut the PVC over to NetPLEX (damnit) so he gave me a number to call and told me to get to it before 9:00PM because that's when the SNET guys left. Needless to say I called and got ahold of someone at about 8:15PM and asked them if they could do this little thing for me They put me on hold for 2 mins and came back on, told me to reboot and try it. Once more I go into the router, make sure everything is ok, reboot and ..... POW! Blazing fast speed, Low low low pings (sub 50ms on some servers) and no PPPoE. I cannot say enough good things about this company. They had me switched in a matter of hours although I think that not yelling at the SNET rep helped a bit too. It is so worth the extra 10.00 not to worry about a router getting filled and run to capacity (aCk!) without a backup. The slowest speed I have gotten so far with NetPLEX is 1236 down and 108 up and that was during peak time with the server load here at full bore. I will gladly pay the 200.00 for the modem when SNET charges me. I didn't rate the news server because I haven't used it yet (still logging into earthlinks) BOTTOM LINE If you want super fast service with a group of guys that know what they are doing and will go that extra mile for the customer, this is your paradise. -Chris Martin -Pleased as punch member for 23.6 years, 6701 visits, last login: 64 days ago updated 14.5 years ago
Started service 08/04/06 after 10 months with Comcast HSI / Digital Voice combo pkg. up to 1.5 mbps DL / up to 384 kbps UL. DSL connection is STATIC IP, unlike AT&T's dynamic IP offering. Price of service is not tied into any offerings with AT&T (the local telco.). Netplex has been in business for 14 years. I don not work for, nor am I affiliate with the company but I just think the world of their service and staff. They are the largest independent DSL ISP in Connecticut and offer far more competitive pricing that other "indie ISPs" in the state. A few tips for those who may have never subscribed to in independent DSL provider in CT: All of your internet traffic, e-mail goes your ISPs servers and not the phone company's. That should be a big relief to many. All customer service issues are handled by the ISP. You do need to have basic home phone service (at a minimum) to get service. Update 09/08/09: I was a Netplex DSL customer on their 1.5 / 384 tier from 08/2006 to 08/2008. I left for a year and returned as a customer in 08/2009 on the 3.0 / 512 tier. Pricing on the 1.5 tier is still competitive compared to ATT. Netplex charges $30 and AT&T is $25 per month. At 3.0 mbps Netplex is charging $50 vs. $30 from AT&T. Two things you have to remember are that Netplex is not PPoE and they offer a Static IP with their service. They are not reselling AT&T service, but merely leasing the lines. Now if you depend on a bundled discount or want to take advantage of ATT WiFi in public places or use websites like ESPN360.com, using an Independent ISP like Netplex will not help you. They do not provide free anti-virus software. So if you are looking for added benefits - about the only tangible one is that they provide you with an online photo gallery with 1 GB of storage. However, Netplex has stood the test of time. They been in business for 14 years and you get very, very personal service whenever you have a problem. member for 18.4 years, 765 visits, last login: 11.8 years ago updated 14.5 years ago
I have now had Netplex service for five years. It has mostly been flawless. The only problem was the price -- $77/month for 1500/384 1 static IP was just getting ridiculous when SBC offered a similar package for around $25. I was seriously considering switching to SBC or to cable, but then I went to Netplex's site and looked at their new pricing plans. Seeing the $24.95 for the Primary plan under contract, I called them up and the very nice support person offered to send me a contract form to sign; for my trouble, my monthly ISP bill dropped by $52. So at this point Netplex's DSL pricing is competitive with SBC's, and the service is still as good as ever. Here are my past reviews: -- I've now had DSL through Netplex for nearly three years. Not much has changed since my last update. The only problem I've had has been a single day back in April when the modem lost synch. I called Netplex's support at 9:00AM and got an update about an hour later that the problem was in the SNET Central Office in West Haven. Everything was back on at about 2:00PM - there had evidently been some kind of equipment failure, and I was pretty amazed at the speed of repair. And the Netplex support folks were very good about calling and giving us updates. I couldn't really ask for much more from an ISP's tech support. They've added virus scanning on the mail server, both for incoming and outgoing, which is a nice feature, as well as spam filtering although I prefer to do that myself. In short, I'm completely happy with the features and performance. -- Well, it's been nearly two years, and Netplex's service is still just as good. Back in April I upgraded to the 1500/256 service, and now all the billing comes through Netplex in one statement. They've done some security enhancements to their network and improved the reliability of the DHCP server and router. I haven't had any issues at all in probably six months or more. The 256k upload is nice, it makes running a website quite a bit nicer. I use mod_gzip on Apache 1.3.26 and it's almost like being on a LAN with the web server when I access it remotely. My original review: -- I got DSL with SNET as the ISP in September 2000. The following month, I decided I coulnd't take the routing and congestion problems any longer and ordered a switch to Netplex. The ISP switch was pretty hosed up due to confusion at SNET which left me without DSL for three weeks. Apparently the "switch" order was inadvertently changed to "cancel" and while SNET.net, Netplex, and ASI all knew I was supposed to be active, my line was down at the CO. After spending many an afternoon on the phone with SNET reps and even with Netplex people conferenced in, I happened to get a SNET Customer Satisfaction Survey call -- you can guess my response to that. The next day I got a call from a high up at SNET who got a tech to sort out the problem, and two days later I was up and running. I have a network with several machines at home, and I use an old Pentium 90 running Linux as my router. Although I've used PPPoE on Linux without problems before, having DHCP does make life a whole lot easier. The only trouble I've had with Netplex is a couple of times the gateway has seemed to lose my IP, and I've then had to request a new DHCP lease in order to get it working again. This hasn't happened in several months now, so I suppose it was due to a software problem that has been fixed. Other than that, service has been flawless. Netplex as an ISP and SNET as a DSL provider seems to be a great combination. The DSL line itself has never gone down that I'm aware of, and Netplex with its excellent peering and upstream connections gives me great low pings and fast downloads at all times. No oversold bandwidth or routing problems here. member for 23.3 years, 1178 visits, last login: 18 years ago updated 18.3 years ago
I couldn't be happier with the price point, timing, performance, and support I've received from Netplex. I am using a Netscreen firewall, and Mike in sales was able to give me the basics as to how to make my first connection and set up the service. He was spot-on, and I had my entire LAN accessing the internet through my firewall in 20 minutes. I sent this to their management: Thanks to you Mike, and the guys at support for getting my business DSL circuit up, domain names entered in real time, etc. Everything works like a charm, and s quite zippy. I've got my firewall running, Dynamic IP setup, Mail and web servers all running happily. You guys are the best! member for 21.5 years, 3 visits, last login: 17 years ago lodged 21.5 years ago
I originally went with SNET for an ISP. Things went ok once I finally got hooked up. SNET is overselling there bandwidth... I ordered the switch on Novemeber 8 after documenting every problem I had. Snet wanted to charge me 198 for equipment then a 150 disconnection fee. After explaining I was not being disconnected from SNET DSL Service just the Network which I connect to the network I was able to get the 150 service fee waived, I also documented all the trouble I had, read my diary, and stated they were failing to provide a service and SNET responded with use your Dial up Service which I told them kinda hard since I do not have a modem... Then I told them they could have there equipment back and not charge me the 198. So hopefully this will not appear on my bill.. This morning was the due date for the transfer and it was done at 7am. I called netplex and setup my account, switched a setting or two and bam, on the net with much faster speeds. I did call ASI to have my line uncapped, since SNET capped me at 764k so my modem would keep sync, but the was not the case. UPDATE:July 11, 2002: Ok, I recently moved from my home in Hamden on April 28 to a home in North Haven on June 28. Netplex was able to transfer my DSL account within a week of my move in date. There were no Service Charges or penalties. I have yet to have a problem with speed or latency issues. In the 2 years I have had DSL I have had one outage of 2 hours when the Server went down due to a lightning strike. member for 23.6 years, 1626 visits, last login: 7.5 years ago updated 21.7 years ago
Over all there great.Had some problems in the beginning but there tech support was great and I was up and running in 30 mins from call to fixed.Had 3 techs all helping me at the same time.Did a self install that was easy and went in quick. UPDATE : 2 months later zero problems.Everthing running great.I love it. Update 3-9-02 : Still a great company. Only downtime I have had was on 3/1/02 - 3/4/02. DSL repair Tech showed up at 2:00 and said SNET just put in the work order. SNET needs to get on the ball. Will stay with NETPLEX . member for 22.8 years, 6 visits, last login: 21.1 years ago updated 22 years ago

I have recently switched from SNET Internet to Netplex, and boy am I glad that I did!!! I had my DSL for about two months when I began to experience internet outages and router problems with SNET's network. They blame it all on Williams, but I somehow doubt it's them.. I point to SNET.. they suck. Anyhow.. I got so sick of their static that I called up, and switched my ISP to Netplex, and that was the best move I made. My downloads are cranking at about 1500 consistently now... all the time. There's no PPPoE software, and they support routers, and all the things people that normally have DSL want. As soon as I realized I was cutover, and on the Netplex network, I dropped an e-mail to support, giving them the MAC address of my router so they could define me in their DHCP server so i can my IP address assignment. This was around 4pm on a Friday, so I didn't expect anything till the next week, like Monday or Tuesday.. About 15 minutes later, I got a reply, saying that I was all set, and boom! I was! I couldn't believe it. I have nothing but praise for Netplex.. I used to work for UUNet, so I know how hard being an ISP can be... Netplex has shown me that they are willing to support their customers as they should be, and I would reccomend them to anyone. I know there are lots more Netplex customers out there... get a post up here... Let's show CT that SNET Internet sucks, and show our support for Netplex. member for 23.3 years, 32 visits, last login: 22.7 years ago lodged 23 years ago
