I got DSL via Primenet in Phoenix, which has been abosrobed into the Frontier arm of Global Crossing. The only real problem I had was with US West's (now Qwest) prequalification of the line, which ended up being yes then no then yes. Then they ran out of DSLAM slots at the local exchange. Once all those hurdles were cleared the service came on and has been very reliable.
The service is bridged access with a Cisco 675 and a static IP. The initial speed was 256/256, but that's been bumped to 640 down/256 up. The service offers Unix shell access and national dial-up numbers for use when travelling, at no extra cost. That makes up for the slightly higher ISP cost ($25/mo + $29.95 telco DSL).
The only reason I would hesitate recommending them is that after all the mergers/aquisitions, the home users seem to be more of a nuisance to Global Crossing than anything else. The former Primenet service is only offered in Phoenix and Tucson, and is not part of the Lightning Link service Frontier offers elsewhere.
UPDATE: I gave up on them and switched to Qwest Choice VDSL, see »Review of Qwest.net by alanhdsl.

After over 1 year of being teased with emails from mindspring about having dsl avail. in my area, I decided to look elsewhere. I found that Frontier (A Global Crossings company)was finally putting in access to my area I came to find out an old friend of mine was the person I was speaking to in the dsl office in Rochester N.Y. After a wait (for the CO to be installed), which was installed on time, I got the visit for the test, on the proper day and time, how pleasant. After that, I got notification that the self install packages (which I requested) would be in a perticular day at CompUSA. I went there on the appointed day, and my package was waiting for me. I only had to sign a release, and off I went. Came right home as excited as a 7 year old on Christmas eve, and began to setup my new service. In less then one hour, I had installed all the stuff, I had pre-wired the house for a hard wiring of the DSL modem with cat 5 direct to the main junction were the line comes in.. Well, the only speed troubles I had were rwin related and were fixed by a visit here (thanks for being here DSLReports!!) I now have the system working with an SMC Barricade Gateway/Router, to an 8 port switch, and all 4 of my computers in the house work with speeds as good as can be expected with a 1mb/128k connection. The IP appears to be STATIC, even though I was told it would be dynamic

Computer tech and phone techs arrived 10 min early....line was set up, equipment attached, and computer configured for service within 30 min. The review may be a bit early.. I've only had the service for 5 days..but it's been great. Speeds are supposed to be max 1Mbps down and 128 Kbps up and in my most recent test I got 861 down and 130 up. I have not required tech support but have been reading online support through frontiernet's WWW site and it has been informative. Equipment is a Cisco 677 ADSL router---- dynamic IP.

I would like to submit a review of my local telelphone company's DSL service in
Rochester, NY which is Frontier's "Lightening Link". The computer tech showed on time. The phone tech did not show at all even though I called 2 hrs before the appointment to make sure I was still scheduled. After repeated calls, a phone tech arrived 6 hours after I had already taken time off from work. Phone Technician installed 1 extra filter w/o charging me. Once I was up and running, the speed was better than adverstised 897 mps. 1 week later, My DSL AND phone line went down. It took 3 days and several phone calls to get service. The speed is nice but the service is horrendous.

My wife and I had our LightningLink dsl service installed on the 7th of April, 2000.
We placed the order in March and the first line check occurred the following week.
After calling support to find out about the possibility of bridge taps, I was transferred to the dsl group, THEN transferred to the line group. They had no idea and said to call repair. Repair closed for the day...
Four weeks later.... 8 am arrived and the install tech arrived five minutes later. 8:15 am the line tech arrived. Not bad as he was getting his info dump for the day at 8.
In the begging they said that I needed a nic card from them. I said that I had a nic in the box. They said I _had_ to use theirs. Ended up the nic in my 'puter was beter than the one I would have gotten.
After attaching the Modem and filtering the line we were up and running. Only had to call to set up NGs and send an e-mail to find out my speed.
We LOVE it.

I am a new customer to the DSL world. I have just been introduced to the DSL world through Frontier Telephone of Rochester, which is a subsidiary of Global Crossing. Frontier Telephone is a located in the western portion of upstate New York. They have just released their ADSL offering to the public and it appears to be being received well by their customers. They also will be releasing SDSL in the third quarter of this year. I have found that their price, quality of installation, and knowledge of their field forces is above average. However, the quality of their help desk appears, at least at this time, to be just average.
Thank you for your time.......
