HTC rolled out dsl years ago, and have a mature product and network, and the speed/price ratio offered made the initial cable (Charter) rollout look rather ridiculous, They (Charter) have since offered more competetive packages, but are still not on a par with HTC. Service outages have been minimal, and I have been able to continue using the internet, uninterrupted during power outages which affected the whole town (through use of a UPS). When I was (honestly) wrongfully accused of distributing mp3s of the band Blur via P2P (previously never heard of them, I'm more of a Deadhead, Brit Pop not so much) by NetPD (outfit out of UK, refused to answer any of my admittedly rather pointed questions about their methods and practices) they told them, although more politely than I would have "Feck Off, Cop".

HTC operates a monopoly on much of the county I live in, but have offered services to its customers well in advance of major players in the market and at reasonable prices which has enabled it to expand its internet access offerings beyond its own TelCo monopoly. When they added a tier of service all existing customers were upgraded to the new speeds and features and the lower tier was offered at a reduced price. I have every confidence that they plan on expanding and improving services and speeds. I wouldn't mind seeing sDSL but this is unlikely, as I'm sure sticking with the single flavor of DSL keeps costs down. They also display a lack of any irritating habits such as resricting your usage of the internet, they sell Unlimited Internet Access not TOS.

Ordered Dialup from www.htc.net within 2 weeks of moving to Dupo IL. Service was good, 48k bandwidth. Decided to order DSL based on current job and couldnt be happier. Took about 8 days from order to full tech install, single filter installed near modem takes care of entire home, single static ip address, gateway ethernet modem. I'm 2300 ft from the c.o. and average 1.42m down on good days, 1.28m down on average days and still around 600-900k on bad days, no problems with email servers EVER. Total down time over last 2 years has been less than 36 hours, which I consider excellent. Outages never last more than 3-4 hours. Customer service is fine, knowledgeable and courteous, afterhours support is outsourced to somewhere in Montana, but they're ok, if a bit clueless about the product. Only complaint is about the 70k upload speed cap. I play alot of games online, beta testing them quite often. A better upload speed more in par with other service providers would be nice.

"Excellent customer service. Quick Installation. Free modem, installation and 1st month of service."

"I live in a small rural community, and it is great to see HTC keep up with the ever changing technology."

From start to finish, HTC did everything they said they would. We have no real alternative to HTC unless we want to pay long distance, but HTC has done an excellent job of keeping up with the ever changing technology. Before I had the DSL installed, I used their dial-up with excellent results. The installers were on time and done in less then 20 minutes. The only thing I wish HTC would consider is having the installers set up your connection. One quick phone call took care of my connection questions, but it would have been easier if the installers would just finish it out for you.

I connected at 450-500 download and 60-65 upload. I have since installed the Dr. TCP I read about on the community forums here, and now I consistently connect at 1300-1400 download. I suggest that everyone download this VERY simple program, it is easy and SAFE to use, plus it is free !

DSL through HTC only costs me $5 more a month then my dial-up connection. I was able to close the dedicated phone line for my PC.

I highly recommend HTC to anyone who can use them !

After ordering ADSL from HTC I was hooked up about 5 business days later. Installation was free. Modem was free(I had to supple the Ethernet card - no prob). The installers were curteous and thrifty, getting it all done in about 30 minutes, this included the wiring outside my home. I had to go to work, and I feared I wouldn't get to try out my new speed. The were so quick with the installation I had an hour to kill! I was amazed at the 1.5mps I had immediately!! Dial-up sucks! I dropped my extra phone line, saving me about $8/mo. overall. I had one minor problem and called the tech service. I had to wait for a call back, which was a little slow waiting, but when they did, they fixed me up professionally and intelligently. For $47.95/mo. you can't beat it!

Moving back to HTC. After the Charter nightmare...

    long time customer

I had HTC install my DSL service about 8 years ago. They are friendly, helpful & courteous. I had very few complaints until I upgraded my equipment about 6 weeks ago. Since then I have had one problem after another. My connection drops 30-60 times a day. I've had technicians at my house twice..no better. I've spent hours (really hours) on the phone with tech support and as intelligent and courteous as they are...we can't seem to find out what the problem is. I want my old equipment back, but they don't support it anymore so I'm pretty much stuck with what I have (internet service part of the time). Also, with the new equipment, connecting my wireless router became a very difficult if not impossible task. The service tech finally told me he was out of ideas and I should call the manufacturer. This router was working until the new equipment. I am seriously looking for alternatives. If you have the AG Communications Modem...keep it until they make you give it up. It is way more dependable than the Siemens Speedstream in my opinion and experience.
