Choice One delivered a 384/384 DSL service to our company. The installation was professional, the service provided was exactly as described in the contract. The service is upgradable up to T1 speeds for additional monthly cost.

Choice One handled all the installation work directly with the Telco - coordinated the line installation with their bits of the data service. Installation was actually ahead of the scheduled contract start date.

The DSL service worked immediately and we have had no problems or disconnects so far (about 3 weeks). The service includes several mailboxes (we have not tried this part of the service yet), but does not include free access to newsgroups.

We recieved 3 static IPs and currently use one of them.

The price of $39/month is part of a data/voice package deal for DSL and phone services.

Our company first switched from ISDN to DSL three years ago and in that time had the pleasure of being part of the @link and Bluestar implosions. We also tried Covad, Ameritech and AT&T dsl during those years. We have a plethora of routers to match the various DSL providers we have watched go belly-up or service falter along with our profit margins. (We have been able to unload a couple of the routers on ebay). The smartest move I have made, as President, was to give DSL one more chance and sign a contract with Choice One. The installation was on time, but did have minor bugs to be worked out. At first tech support was slow in responding (had to go through what amounts to an answering service), but once we had a direct line to the NOC, support was extremely good.

They do seem to be a bit stingy with the static IP addresses, and it seems like we need an act of Congress to have them assign more but every company has its quirks.

In four months of service we have not been down for any measurable time and most speed tests are 1250/1250, with up and down typically at or above 175. We have yet to tax the bandwidth with a network of six workstations and two servers on a 1-gig network. I know broadband quality and satisfaction is a case by case issue, but in our case, Choice One is what we needed, fast and reliable with sufficient bandwidth. We now have Choice One for all our telecommunications with the saving on the phone lines more that making up for the $400/month dsl service. (We do miss @links un-regulated service where we were paying for 768/384 and received 1.5/1.5 for $79/mn. They gave us the password to the router and allowed us to change the password; something like letting the fox guard the hen house. Could that be why they are not here today?)

Probably shouldn't rate Choice One Mail, DNS, or News. We use hostway to host our web page and as our mail server, and for the most part we are also satisfied with them. They do a good job of regulating spam and are reliable. Who needs the government to regulate the internet? What next, your diet, sunglasses, or how about shoes?

After Atlink went under I called Ameritech who said I would have service in 3 weeks. Didn't happen. Called around for other providers, talkd to Choice One. Their DSL is more pricey but I changed my phones from Ameritech too. Savings made up for the higher DSL costs. Took longer to install, was told Ameritech installed the new DSL line to the wrong floor. Once DSL was up & running from Choice One things were fine. Been connected now for a month and the connection hasn't been anything but fabulous. DSL tests showing me at 205 down / 190 up and I signed up for a 128k connection. Happy about "free" speed. Choice One has mostly been great. Helps to have a knowledgeable sales person who actually knew what she was talking about and not pretending to. What prompted me to write this review was not to boost egos or bash but to tell how it is. Choice Ones sales, connection and e-mail are fab, but their tech support stinks. I needed 2 extra IPs because we want to set up a web server. Passed around about 5 times before someone could help me, ended up at square 1, sales person who helped me at least talk to the right person. Other gripe is they dont call before they come to install. I wanted my vendor on location when the Choice One tech got there but with no forwarning that wasn't possible.

Using Exchange server, Netopia 6300 router, works well.

To sum it all up, I give them a B- rating.
