I ordered the service after my 6 month contract with mindspring was up, I got tired of my connection failures and connection pauses with PPPoe. So Speed Factory was the only ISP I found for residential that uses DHCP so I thought I would give them a try. Good information and tech support has been informative, no hold times which is a nice change from mindspring.
Canceled mindspring and ordered Speed Factory on a Tuesday. Had old nic card and modem left from mindspring so I didn't need to buy an external modem or nic. Service was up and running on that next wednesday (6days). All the time was waiting for bell south to reprovision the lines. Once that was done, SURFING!! Ping are a little worse, but still exceptable. Only bad thing is I was told if contract was terminated, you still had to pay the term in full. So be sure it's right for you!
Overall experience has been good, I love dhcp and don't ever want to go back to PPPoe. So if your in atlanta and don't want PPPoe, check out speed factory and see if they are right for you.
::UPDATED::
Had the service going for around a year now and they have been great. Pings got stable, download speed are better than before. Very pleased with speedfactory, they have been most impressive over this past year. I still don't have to wait on hold for a tech. Nice to see an ISP who seems to care about there customers for a change. Laterz

I started my DSL experience with BellSouth fast access, after waiting 6 weeks to get the install kit, it did not even work, then 3 weeks later, after getting the new kit, I was on hold for 30 min trying to get help to get the Modem up and running (Cheap USB Modem that has to be restarted all the time). Once up and running, It was great until I would loss my connection every 2 hours or so. I heard about Speed Factory though some people I work with, and gave them a call, they helped me to find the correct equipment that fit my needs, and showed up to install it. When they were finished it was a night and day change from the previous provider. Speed Factory, has tech support guys, whom can talk you though just about anything, and I might ad that I have never been on hold for more than 1 minute. The Price is actually lower than BellSouth now, and the service is uninterrupted and smooth. I have been online with them for about 2 months know and have had my computer on non-stop and have not lost my connection once, or even seen a pause in the service. It was less than 5 days from the day I contacted Speed Factory to the time I was up and running. These guys know there stuff and they stand behind their work. I get the impression that if you have a problem they will do what ever it takes to fix it for you. If they are in your area, it would be a shame it you were not using them, You do not know what you could be missing.

I DO NOT USE SPEED FACTORY I'M NOT SURE HOW THAT GOT PLACED ON THIS REVIEW! THIS IS A BELLSOUTH REVIEW FOR NORTHWEST ALABAMA!
Bellsouth is promoting USB modems (Alcatel looks like a stingray) for the home consumer using a PPPoa connection. It is easy to setup but it cannot be easily used on a home network. For and additional $165.00 they will send you an eithernet modem (alcatel) that along with a good linksys router will make it very easy to network in a home. You can then use a PPPoe 24/7 connection!. Speed is ok varying from 400kb-760kb/s with dynamic IP. I know I am some distance from the DSLAM.
Also there seems to be a trained DSL field team and a untrained team. When they called me to say my line now had DSL. The phone (no dialtone) stopped working for 3 days. The first tech they dispatched was not DSL trained and as soon as I told him this was a new DSL line he sounded rather mad, abandoned me and told me to call in another trouble ticket.
The second team that came to the house and worked the neighborhood really knew their stuff. There were BellSouth trucks running all over the neighborhood for at least a half a day! They got the line conditioned tested and called me to see how the voice line was. They also measured the distance back to the DSLAM and main office and told me about what to expect. These guys were good and very professional. After all the waiting the service is good so far and the regular phone sevice is as good as ever..
Just be patience while our small town crews come up to speed on this new home DSL. Thank you Bellsouth for bringing broadband to the little town of Florence, Alabama! We need more DSLAMS! We always need more... One more thing they originally said that DSL would not be availble in the Shoals until 7/17/01 they beat their own deadline by over a month!

Speedfactory is TOPS! No complaints here. I have been with Speedfactory now since January of 2001 after a long drawn out battle with Telocity.
Problems: very rare. Tech support is Great (and no long waits). They even answer their email in less than 24 hours.
I am glad to have found them and very glad that they offer it here in Birmingham.
Speedfactory once again, You Are Tops!

I started my DSL life with Covad. Their speed was slow, about 100bps I had 25KB when downloading stuff off the internet. Then, the line went dark. After several calls, I heard that Covad is not supporting my area anymore and I should look for a new ISP and local telco provider.
I went online, order the service from SWBell. Got 3 days later by email and mail my confirmation date. The modem and equipment was in anohter 2 days later. Hooked everything up and tried to get support to "turn" me on. But they said that a SB guy needs to come out to do something on my phone box. 2 days later, the guy was here, my modem's syncs...speeds in the 500bps, got up to 1000 the first time. Love it. So, they got all this done in about a week, 5 days before "due date".
They SWB guy told me that there are only 4 others in this area so far, but that all is fibre....whatever.
I have a dynamic IP, try to figure out how to run my little website now. (dyndns.org perhaps?). PPPoE.

Very dependable since first going on line. No down time experienced since changing from ConnectSouth. We did have to install a point to point CAT 5 line from the DEMARC in the building up to our 6th floor COMM Room location. This helped eliminate our reduced line speed, because of the bad phone line in the building.

I ordered the Speed Biz Pro 10 package which provides me with 10 static IP addresses and 256 up and 1.5mb down at a cost of $149.95 a month. I spent a few days negoiating the terms and Conditions but even that was a fairly smooth process. These guys are dedicated to making sure you are happy with what you are buying.

I had already signed a contract with Edge connections, but they didn't light our building with the DSLAM when they said they would. A telemarketer trying to sell me long distance & T1 hooked me up with a friend of his at SpeedFactory (Because I can't afford a T1 or T3...who can?) Anyway, they wanted to come out that day and talk to me about their service. They said they had a mini-RAM already lit and could install when we said "go". The delay was on my end. Two weeks from the visit, they installed. The installer showed up at 9:30 exactly as they said he would. It took about two hours, he configured the router and two of five PC's (they only do one usually.)
I did have to buy a router. I got a router for (Speedstream 5660) for $350 (originally they were going to charge $400) and install cost $50 instead of $100. I checked the MSRP on those: $550, so I can't complain. I think I got those discounts because my boss had originally expected a deal like Edge was offering (1st month free, no charge for router) and was kind of balky at the start up expenses. Basically, if you want a discount, you have to ask for one.
Received a static IP + 10 e-mail addresses and free 30MB web hosting. 1.5down / 256 up. I've called support several times before the install and never waited more than one minute.
Will post again with future results as they come in.
