I am a student who has been recently accpeted to a graduate school in Goergia. I called SBC dsl to move servie there but they do not provide it there, now since my account was established in January they are telling me they will charge me an early termination fee of $200.00. I did not know I would be accpeted there when I started service and I am willing to continue their service but they do not provide it there or have an affiliate they work with there. I told them I was moving Aug 1 and had to disconnect my phone since someone is moving in. They then told me that if I disconnect the phone that is the same as cancelling their service for DSL and they would charge me a termination fee. I have tried everything I can to work this out with SBC but they are practicing a very deceptive and unorthodox way of business in relation to their customers. I was willing to continue with a dial-up from Georgia till my contract ended but was also told that I would be charged an early termination fee. When did companies such as this get so much power to demand you pay for service even when they are unable to provide any?

I have a static IP (extra $5 per month) along with thier Gold package because the platinum package is not availiable in my area. I also pay an extra $5 per month to have the MX records point to my domain name. Today my internet access was down and I called tech support. Tech support called me back approx an hour later to tell me thier system was down and they had no idea of when it will be back up. This was the third time this month that thier system was down.
They bill by direct debit from my checking account they don't offer any other options. I have been double billed in the same month and tobe fair when I called them they immediately credited the money back to my account. However, on one occassion I discovered that the MX Records, which allow me to send and recieve emails using my domain name, were not working. As it turns out they had turned off the service about 4 months earlier, but were still charging $5 per month. I asked for a refund or credit but they refused.
If you're thinking about Speed Factory in Georgia I would recommend that you keep looking and use them as a last resort.

Covad CLEC party: Covad
"Fast backbone, reliable connection"
"Slow webmail; poor website; tech support by phone only, usually long hold."
"Recommend for fast connection; not recommended if you need support."

I dumped Bellsouth/Speedfactory 3/384 and signed up for Cyberonic/Covad 6000/768 dry line with VOIP service from Pcaket8. The Covad installer arrived the following week and connected the dry line. I plugged in the Briteport/Broadxent router-modem and it worked immdiately. Server-assigned sticky IP via PPP-O-E in the router. Connection tests fast, but not quite up to expected 80% thruput once overhead is factored in. I am about 5000' from CO and was told I should get full sync. This is reported by router as 6016. Pages load noticeably faster and downloads are much faster than they were at 3000 bps.
Cyberonic's website is really quite poor with very little of anything useful on it. You can try emailing tech support with questions, but they will not answer, they will just tell you to phone in. When you call tech support you will be put on hold for up to 15 minutes. Cyberonic offers (slow) webmail service and SMTP/POP servers with several email addresses, but no NNTP servers. You are allowed to run as many servers as you want and they do not block any ports. However, you had better know how to configure the router and set up the server. Cyberonic support is not likely to be overly helpful in this regard. I also noted that at least one of their tech support people was rather surly when I contacted him/her about slow webmail. I was told to call in the complaint.
Conclusion: If you want raw speed and don't need hand-holding with tech support, Cyberonic/Covad is an excellent choice. If you need a nice, polite and helpful ISP, then stick with local or regional ones such as Speedfactory, my former ISP.

I've done business with every kind of company there is, and Speed Factory is the worst company I've ever had to deal with. These guys are rude, highly unprofessional, and totally unable to service a professional account properly. All our connectivity problems cleared up instantly when we switched providers. When you report a problem and they cant figure out whats wrong (which is usually) SF. tells you they will call you back but doesnt, except when it's time for you to sign another contract. When I pointed this out to one of their managers, I was told that that no call backs was standard practice! Many times I've called to report a problem, only to have them deny that the problem even exists. Before we replaced them, our standing joke was, "How many Speed Factory service reps does it take to change a light blub? Just one, if you can convince him that a socket exists in the first place!" They are extremely evasive in answering questions, even when asked repeatedly. At one point, they convinced us that there was a problem with our router, and a new one was purchased, but it did the same thing the old one did: nothing. As it turned out, Speed Factory made changes that required us we needed to adjust our settings accordingly, but didn't tell us! The old router, the one they said was bad, is now back in use and working perfectly: nothing was ever wrong with it in the first place. Be especially aware that as of this writing (March 7 2005), they claim to offer 24/7 service on their web site, but actually they close up shop at 9 PM and don't work weekends anymore: if your connection goes down on the weekend, don't expect to get it back until Monday morning. Also be aware that they have a $500 fine for sending spam, which means they will be reading your outgoing email. Do what we did get a Comcast connection. It costs a little more than Speed Factory, but is twice as fast, more stable, and you wont have to deal with any bad attitude.

I was with Earthlink for about 9 years. Their service was great. Then one day, I needed high-speed DSL for my home office and Earthlink did not offer it over fiber optic. Switched to BellSouth. WHAT A NIGHTMARE !!! Then found out that a second phone line into the house was copper. Went back to Earthlink. Then, EVERYONE started blocking ports (BellSouth, Earthlink, COMCAST) and my home office became an island on the internet. No POP3, SMTP, FTP or any server traffic was allowed .Needless to say, that just would not do !!
Then I found SpeedFactory. They delivered more than what they promised, faster than what they promised, and my connections are AWESOME !!
Their tech support staff actually answers the phone and will not hang up until you are completely satisfied no matter how long it takes, or what needs to be done. No "blowing smoke" or making "half-baked" promises, just great, courteous service whenever I need it ( and with SpeedFactory, that's not often).
I have never heard the words "Well sir, we don't support that configuration..." . No matter what I want to accomplish, they will find a way to get it done.
I have recommended them to all my friends, and I would like to recommend them to you too !!
No matter what "feature" you think your ISP may be offering, chances are, SpeedFactory already has it and will make it work for you. The friendly, knowledgeable staff goes "above and beyond" !!
As internet access speeds increase, I am sure SpeedFactory will be right up front.

No hidden fees, no gimmicks and no games. Speed Factory serves up lightning fast DSL with no hassle and no strings attached. Im glad there are still companies like this one out there proving that you can be successful even if you do put the customer first. They came highly recommended from a friend of mine and now I see why. I've got 3 megs and I couldnt be happier.

I'm very happy with my Speed Factory connection. I had service for 5 months and have not had any problems. My connection works flawlessly. The installation was smooth and very easy to get going, and the customer service reps where friendly.
I will continue to do business with this company because they are local and they provide great services. Now if only I could say the same about my telephone service, oh well. Speed Factory if you are listening please get dry lines soon....

I started using SpeedFactory as my ISP in late April 2004 after I left BellSouth. I signed up with SpeedFactory because I wanted to get the new 3000/384 service with a Dynamic IP and BellSouth was only providing 3000/384 service with Static IPs at that time. I have been with SpeedFactory now for almost 10 months and I am very happy with my service. It is fast and dependable and I have had no problems. One thing that I don't like is that there is no web interface to manage my account. When I setup my personal web page and email account, I had to call customer support to get them activated because they cannot be setup online. As for providing a dependable connection to the Internet, SpeedFactory works great.

I've been with Speedfactory for over 3 years now. 24x7 support, always someone knowledgable on the phone. Always someone answers the phone. I work from home and have clients who I've setup with Speedfactory services.
Initial install, tech came to my house and had it up within an hour. Free hardware. The only wait time from order to install was waiting on Bellsouth to do their part. I only wish someone would put the pinch on BellSouth and their monopoly. It's frustrating when all these DSL providers have to deal with a competitor for their services. When I started having problems with my dsl modem, they replaced it for free.
I've had one outage that I know of in the past 3 years. That lasted for about 1 hour and was caused by a problem with the 'upstream provider.' Hmmm, might that be BellSouth? Since I work from home, I instantly know when my service is down. It just doesn't happen. Great customer service.
Someone always answer's the phone. In off hours, I've left messages and a tech has called me within the hour. In each of these cases, any problems I've had have been resolved before the call was returned.
Initially I had a static ip, no pppoe. I've since converted to pppoe with a static IP to get higher bandwidth. at no charge. I was quite skeptical about going with pppoe, but the service has been rock solid. I know that the line does not stay on all the time, because my firewall notes the amount of time of current connection. Looking in the logs, the downtime is seconds as the firewall reinitiates the connection. This, so far, has only happened in the early morning (3-4am).
Now if I could just get rid of my BellSouth dialtone, I'd be happy.
