One of the best ISPs I've ever had, If it wasn't for a bellsouth problem their uptime would have been 100%! It wasn't much more for a static IP which was because I needed a static ip for my work VPN! When I did have the bellsouth problem their tech support staff was very knowlegable and right on top of the problem! They even credited the short amount of time I was down for. If I wasn't moving to an area that didn't have dsl I would still have them to this day!

I called them on a Saturday afternoon (3/13/04), and in 2 rings, a very knowledgable sales/tech picked up the phone and explained all the gory details about what they provide and what might needs would be since I already had a LAN network setup that I did not want disrupted. I received the package on Wednesday as promised, even though they quote 10 days. The only problem that I really did not care too much was that they sent me the wrong equipment, but they called to let me know that they sent me the wrong equipment and so I picked up the right one the next day without any hassles. Tech was extremely helpful Thursday afternoon in setting up the HAR11 DSL Router/Modem that was quickly resovled in 10 minutes. So far, I have no complaints and very satisfied with service and quality (PPPoE & Static IP).

I ordered the 1500/256 residential package with the static IP address on January 21. Unfortunately Speed Factory could not start until January 26 because Bellsouth only allows one work order per phone number and I had called Earthlink to cancel my service with them first. The Hawking Technology ADSL modem/router (HAR14) arrived on January 29 and when I plugged it in I had sync. I think one of the things I like the most is not having to deal with PPoE anymore. The tech support/sales were great as well. I must have called about 5 times before I ordered the service and without fail a human answered in under four rings and was able to answer all of my picky questions in a friendly manner.

It seems like we are becoming a high tech household. We recently bought a D-link wireless router and an extra computer. With Speed Factory's help, we were up and running very quickly, they even helped me set up the WEP security. (not sure what that means but they advised it should definitly be enabled) Thanks for your help SF!

I have been with Speedfactory for over two years now and I find them to be an excellent DSL provider. They are courteous and speak understandable & comprehendible language for those of us who are not technically savvy. They offer excellent customer service which appeals to me in a time where customer service has become almost obsolete. I highly recommend them to any user who would like to keep it simple, have a rapport with a great group of guys and receive old fashioned customer service, where the customer is valued.

First, let me say I am not a very technical computer person. I needed to get DSL to be able to work from home. I tried to get mindspring, and even though people living right in my neighborhood could get them, I couldn't. I have heard too many nightmares about Bellsouth and their up and downs and their shoddy customer service, so they were out. My computer techie friend used speedfactory and had nothing but good things to say, so I thought I give them a try.

Getting the service set up was very easy. I wasn't thrilled that it had a 1 year contract associated with it, but just decided to go with it. Because I have an alarm system attached to my phone, I decided to pay their $99 to have someone come setup the service for me. The gentleman that came to my house was great, and we were up and working in no time.

Soon thereafter, I found out I needed to have a static IP address. There was a lot of confusion between my company and why speedfactory was any different than any other ISP, mainly bellsouth. I know it had something to do with the fact that speedfactory doesn't do pppOE or OA, and others do. WAaaaaaaaaayyyy over my head.

This is getting incredibly long, I will cut to the chase... Speedfactoyr GAVE me the router (am I calling this the right thing?) I needed that would work with the firewall that I had to have to get to my work network.

At all points they were helpful and more than happy to talk to anyone at my company that needed information from them about how speedfactory was configured and how and why my machine would need to be configured.

They truly went above and beyond on the customer service end, I doubt there are many providers that would have stuck with me so long. Heck, If I was them, I would have just let me go somewhere else because it was a very frustrating process for everyone. They offered time and again to talk to, meet with, whatever they had to do to help get me up and working.

Working for a small company myself, I would much rather give my business to a local business. They have really been great.

I recently converted from ATT Global to Speedfactory and I am extremenly satisfied and wish I had done it long ago.

What a difference in dealing with a truly professional LOCAL firm. No outsource customer support in dealing with speedfactory.

I am a novice, do not want to be an expert but simply want to do business with a firm that can support my needs and provides good customer service.

I have multiple computers so I opted for home networking using a wireless router and the speedfactory technician arrived on time, was very courteous and knowledgable. In a short period of time he had me up and running and

thoroughly explained what I needed to know.

I have called the tech support only once and was overjoyed to speak with a live person who answered promptly and took care of my request. No menus, no prompting is refreshing in today's environment.

My problems with installation were BellSouth issues, not speedfactory.net issues. BellSouth had to come to my house twice, and my availability impacted the schedule.

I have used speedfactory.net for almost a year now and have found it to be highly reliable. I used Earthlink previously, and the connection was frequently down. Since both providers used BellSouth lines, the 'Earthlink' problems may have been due to older BellSouth equipment in my area at the time rather than a particular Earthlink issue.

The only thing I would suggest to Speedfactory is that they add more instructional and informational documents to their website. I like easy access to online user manuals for the router purchased from Speedfactory, guides to setting up a firewall, etc.

    Another Plus for Speedfactory:

This week BellSouth, by accident, disconnected one of the main data circuits that fed traffic to Speedfactory. These things do happen. My Speedfactory DSL was down for about 1.5 hours.

Unlike my prior experience when I had BellSouth and later Mindspring, Speedfactory did know about the outage when I called.

When I called Speedfactory tech service, I was not asked to cycle the power on my equipment. I was not asked to disconnect my router or 'we will not help you.' I was not asked to install a software based PPPoE client onto my PC. I was not asked to wear purple poka doted underwear, put on a SCUBA mask, and walk on my hands three times around the perimeter of my property. In fact, the Speedfactory tech service guy said "Please Mr. Customer don't rip apart your network looking for the problem because it is on our end" Can you believe that!!!!

***Guys, let's face it, every provider has some down time. What makes the difference to me was how Speedfactory handled it. We did not start off the tech service call with the presumption that I, the customer, was a drooling idiot. I think most of us would agree that dealing with the tech service department at a DSL provider can be as much or more agonizing than dealing with the outage itself. How wonderful it is to deal with competent tech service at Speedfactory****

I have no financial relationship with Speedfactory. I'm just one of their happy customers who wants to help rescue others that suffer at the inattentive hands of BellSouth or Mindspring/Earthlink. (Legal notice: These are my opinions formulated through a few years of experience...your mileage may vary)

    Ernie 870654

First of all, how long did it take? Well, I faxed the form in on December 28th. On New Years eve, December 31st, the modem had been delivered to my door step and the line was active. That is THREE days!

I've been a BellSouth, Mindspring and DirecTV DSL customer. Like many others, I got the cancellation email from DirecTV DSL and had to go searching for a new provider. In the past with BellSouth or Mindspring, I had had outages which is to be occasionally expected. The problem is that one must all go through the hoops of installing their crummy PPPoE software and connecting without your router in the circuit in order to prove to them that the problem was not on your end. It was kinda like the customer is guilty until proven innnocent. DirecTV was wonderful. I never had any downtime to speak of and I never had occasion to have to call them about anything..but their news servers really stank!

I found out about Speedfactory after having Earthlink/Mindspring tell me that they could not provide service to me as I'm on a DLC. Speedfactory does not do any advertising but relies on word of mouth and they are growing. I'm relieved that I did not have to go back to BellSouth or Earthlink begging.

When you sign up, you must take some responsibility. You are going to need an email address or two and passwords, right? Well, I emailed them from the email address I gave them on the form that I faxed to them and got these ahead of time and did not have to do it at the last minute. I phoned them (they answered on the third or fourth call) to ask questions about their acceptable use policy as well as to ask questions about configuration. I told them that I had my own router and would probably want to continue to use it. They provided me a modem with the "/30" option which means that the 'NAT' portion of their Greatspeed router is not enabled. When the modem arrived, I was up and running in about 5 minutes. My static IP address was given on a sticker on the bottom of the modem.

Unlike all the others around Atlanta, Speedfactory does not deploy with PPPoE or PPPoA. They provide a routed RFC1483 connection. No logon or password is required to surf.

About the time I signed up, Speedfactory received a flood of new customers. Before I had the service a week, they did a router upgrade in their facility to hand the increased load. Sounds like the right thing to do. So far, no hiccups.

    Update on 24 July 2003.

In this period of time, I've had no outages that I've noticed. One time my own equipment seemed to get confused and things did not get resolved until I power cycled the master switch from the UPS that feeds the DSL modem, the router, and the switch.

Just in case of a possible lightning strike, I wanted to have a backup router and a backup modem already programmed and in reserve. For the router, I purchased a Speedstream 5660 router off of Ebay. I messed around with it for a day and could not get it to work. The Speedfactory support people are knowlegeable in a way that I've never seen with any of the other providers that I've had such as BellSouth, Mindspring/Earthlink etc. Darrell guided me through the proper entries in the router in less than 2 minutes....it worked.

If you are an advanced type user and you probably are if you are on this web site, I'd suggest that you seriously consider Speedfactory. BellSouth and Earthlink folks are going to read to you off of a cue sheet and tread you like an infant. Most all of their reviews on this site are positive. They are 'on the ball.'

Speeds have pretty consistently been 1200 down and 200 up which is about as good as it can get with 1500/256 connections.
