"DCA.net has always been terrific! Great support and reliability!"

"Much love for DCA.net!!"

I've been with DCA.net for 3 years now. They can do CIDR routed subnets over either verizon or covad, so you don't have to do NAT. They really cater to people who know what they're doing and want to control their own network. It's great that I don't have to install a firewall on every single machine like I would have to with certain *other* providers that only offer bridged multiple IP addresses. They also take care of my DNS, and even handled forwards for IP addresses I have with my other provider for free (while I had another provider). How professional and helpful can you get?

How responsive are they? It has never taken more than 3-5 days to have a connection installed (I've moved a couple of times). They also answer tech support emails within a couple of hours.

They also have a great mailing list where they announce planned maintenance and outages well in advance - and usually a maintenance action that might cause an outage - doesn't.

DCA.net is terrific, I can't say enough good things about them. It would be nice if they would be quicker to offer newer services like 6Mbit DSL, and also quicker to pass along price cuts, but in the end, it's worth it to have them as a provider. I just hope they don't get bought out and gutted by one of the monopolists.

3/11/05: Just completed ordering my second line through DCA.net. There were some problems getting the line installed because Speakeasy took 3 weeks to completely remove their lock on my phone line after I had their service disconnected. However, once they finally released the line, DCA was up and running in just a couple of days.

09/21/05: I just moved to another town (Lansdale) and DCA.net was of course expertly precise in handling my move. However, something happened the other day that disturbed me and raised concerns about their technical support. My new place is a little far, and my modem has been having linking issues with the DSLAM. So, I called DCA's tech support to order a verizon test on the line to see if I could get a hold of some data and plan a solution. I explained this to the person who picked up the phone, and she responded with "ok, can you tell me what the lights on your modem are doing?" Whaaaa? I had just explained in excruciating detail what the problem was and what I wanted to do about it, and their tech support person started reading a script on me. This in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but it threw me for a loop because after 4 years of exemplary service, I have come to expect nothing less. We'll see how this develops.

This review is being submitted quite a bit late - I'm sure that I'll miss some details.

I initially ordered 1.5/128 from DCA.net's Verizon service. I received the Verizon connect kit arrived about a week or two later with Efficient Speedstream 5260 modem and mini-filters. I connected and things worked well but I was only receiving about 720kbs downstream. I queried tech support and they queried Verizon and said that I was too far for the 1.5 service. They downgraded to 768/128kbs and refunded the difference in cost of service.

My service was fine for a few weeks and then downgraded to about modem speed. I contacted tech support and after some troubleshooting the problem was narrowed to a packet loss problem between the CO and my house. Tech support said the problem was with Verizon and they couldn't do anything about it. I asked them to prod Verizon and ultimatly the problem was fixed (took about a month in total).

Over the course of troubleshooting DCAnet sent me a new modem, changed my IP addresses and even sent a tech out to my house to check the line on another computer and another modem. I am very happy with the quality of support give to me.

My service is quite reliable now and I am very happy. I receive a $5 discount per month for belonging to the University of Pennsylvania. I also receive a small discount for paying quarterly. With Verizon based service you can have 6 static IP's.

Update 1/5/03 - No outages for about 9 months. Only one outage (for 1/2 day) in last year. Great connection.

Update 6/05 - It's hard for me to remember any outage over an hour or so over the last couple years. We got great service with DCA.net. We finally had to turn it off when I moved away this month. All in all, I was very happy with the line quality and the customer service of the provider the few times I dealt with them.

"static ip's, incredible tech support"

    I've been a dca.net verizon DSL customer since 2000.

I started with a 1.6/90 line then it was upgraded (automatically) to 1.5/384. I was using the 1.5/384 line for years with little to no problems and just recently upgraded to a 3.0/768 verizon line which appears to work good, and it took less than ONE DAY to have it installed. I had to get it installed on a different phone line since my current dsl line was 1500ish feet to far from the CO, but my voice line was under the 3.0 limitations.

These guys at dca.net are very professional and will do whatever it takes to make things right, fix your problems or just make you happy. It's worth the few extra bucks a month to use these guys just for that, but of course the static IP's don't hurt either. Actually, the ability to run yout own services (email, web, ftp, etc) is worth the extra.

You can't get much better than these guys!

I have been a happy DCAnet subscriber since DSL became available in my CO several years ago. My DSL sevice is provided by Verizon. I originally had 768x90K service which has now been upgraded twice, first to 1.5mx128 and most recently to 1.5mx384k service. Both upgrades were done "auotmagically" by DCAnet/Verizon as a result of service upgrades, with no additional cost to me. I've been paying the same $99+tax per month since the begining.

I operate several machines on my home network with static IPs.

I run a monitor and there are occasional service outages for 2-4 minutes in the 6am time period. One assumes this is Verizon resetting one piece of equipment or another.

I had one modem failure about a month after installation (infant mortality). Received the replacement via next day air, the next day.

DCAnet provieds a separate route for University of Pennsylvania traffic, which is a benefit to their Students in the area. Additionally they have discount rates for Students at the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Drexel University, all in Philadelphia, PA.

CLEC party: Covad

Value for money:

DCA net has provided me with stellar service on my Covad ADSL line.

    Installation/Connectivity:
On time to the button. I had a minor glitch with the Covad installer who
would not test connectivity on the PC (he only passed packets on his laptop)
but as it turns out I didn't need to have it done. The connection was up
from the start and has never been down in over 1 year! NO down time.

    Features offered:
DSL gives 5 IP addresses (4 usable). Has a don't ask don't tell policy
regarding users hosting servers, meaning if you don't suck up a lot of
bandwidth they have no problem with mail servers and web sites on the
circuit. Officially they do not allow it and will not support it or do DNS
    for them.

    Support:
I have dealt with DCA net professionally in the past and am very happy that
the residential support is every bit as good as the business support. They
map IP addresses to MAC numbers and changes usually happen within a few
hours. Being a small company it's easy to see that they care really about
    support.

    PROS:
    All the above

    CONS:
They want to charge an arm and a leg for additional IP addresses and the
News Server filters all large files mpgs, RAR's, MP3's etc BUMMER

    Summary:
I would definitely recommend DCA net/ Covad to anyone in their service area.
    No horror stories here!

I ordered 608K/128K service from the DCANet website on 1/11/02 after a call to Comcast confirmed that cable modem service was still a distant promise for my area. (despite what I had been told for the last year) The Covad site keeps your order status up to date, and is an accurate picture of what to expect. My modem came via UPS at 11:00 am, I was up and running in 20 min (including the reboot). I seem to be getting ~510K/110K without any performance tweaks. I also purchased dial-up ISP service from DCANet to cover me while waiting for the DSL install. I needed to talk to tech support for a problem I was having with my connection. Tech support was patient and helpful, the problem was a VPN client application on my laptop. I have already recommended DCANet to 2 friends. I called tech support about getting multiple IP's and they gladly walked through what I needed to do. I would recommend the self install kit for anyone who has even basic skills, it's idiot proof.

I purchased the modem, which was somewhat pricey and the service is not the lowest price in the area, but the quality of the service seems to be worth a couple of extra $. I haven't used the mail services so I have no basis for comment.

1/24 Update- Just added 5 IP addresses. It took DCANet about an hour from my request until they sent the new IP's to me. They warned me that the existing connection would be down when the new IP's were configured. Fortunately I have a dial-up connection to get to my e-mail. Installed IP's, everything worked fine. Now the whole family is happy with the service. Still highly recommend DCANet to anyone who is interested in DSL (or dial-up) service.
