NConnect Internet has to be one of the sorriest excuses for an ISP that I have encountered. I signed up for a year contract for DSL service in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. (They can no longer sell in this area due to the CLEC's dissatisfaction with their performance) When the service was installed, it worked flawlessly for only about a month. Then the speed problems started occurring... A month and a half later they supposedly had their pipe and/or router upgraded and speed approached what I had ordered. Then they switched their billing system to email billing rather than mailing paper invoices. I received a total of one bill by email. After that, all I ever received was disconnect notices for non-payment of bills. My contract specifically stated that payment was due upon receipt of an invoice but they couldn't bother to send one, only threats of disconnect ion. I managed to get a hold of the billing department once and they attempted to verify that our account was being sent to the proper email address and was in fact being emailed out - As near as they could tell it was (Did you ever hear of paying for software training on your new system... HELLO???) Maybe one in five times trying to contact the company did I actually talk to a person - they claimed that the emails were sent out and that they would resend my bill - it never arrived. I run and maintain my own servers located on my premises; the logs do not even show an attempt to connect even though I specifically gave them my correct email address on more than one occasion. (I should point out that I used to be a network administrator for a different ISP and am currently a network technician for a Technical College. The mail works from everywhere else, why not from their servers...) One of the times I was able to reach someone there who had an idea what was going on, he suggested I use email to contact them as it received more attention. I emailed them several times trying to sort out the problems with billing. My email client has an auto-return that replies when email is read - I never received confirmation that they even read the mail. Tech support tried to assist whenever we could reach them - unfortunately the ones I reached lacked people skills or actual knowledge of how the system worked. Only one in five calls were actually answered by a person - my voice mails were never replied to. Even though I made payments via credit card whenever they sent disconnect notices, they still tried to disconnect the service regularly even though I had paid. (Usually at 1:00am when there was no tech support available to attempt to contact. Altogether a sloppy job at best - unplugging and plugging the DSLPIPE restored some usage...) Also part of my contract was that I was to pay the final month of the contract in advance as part of the installation charge. I notified them a couple weeks ago (early February) that when the contract was to expire (late March) I would be switching to another provider -- NConnect decided to cut off service a month early even though I had prepaid the final month of the contract. If the ISP that I had worked at had offered such poor service to it's customers it wouldn't have stayed in business. If there had been another choice locally for consistent high-speed service and a reasonable static-ip block I would have chosen them. Market availability is no excuse for shoddy service, now that another provider is offering similar services I am gladly going to pay more just to get the respect that any customer deserves. Bottom line - Unless there is no other provider locally, I would recommend avoiding NConnect Internet at all costs. In my experience, NConnect stands for NoConnect - either with their staff or their service.
