I had found out about this great new technology (motorola canopy) through my father, who has been a Nconnect customer for nearly 10 years through there dial up service. They now have multiple towers up through out West Bend, Kewaskum, and the town of Wayne. I live about 4 miles north of there tower mounted on the top of Sunburst Ski Hill just south of Kewaskum. After I picked up the hardware need to connect I got home and used a wood clamp to temporary hook it up and see what she had. It didn't take much to sell this guy! I was instantly getting unbelievable speeds. Here's the whole scoop.....

I signed up for Nconnects Wireless Motorola Canopy 2.4Ghz service. I installed it myself to save $100. Easy installation and they gave me a free Linksys Router. I am renting the radio from them.
At first I was extremely impressed with the speed compared to my dial up connection. Then I really started to investigate the speed. I came to this website and found out that I am actually well below the speed advertised. After contacting Nconnect, they adjusted their AP to fix the problem. I am now at well over 2meg down and 900 k up.
I am learning day by day how to slowly but surely increase my speed.
Nconnect gave me the username and password for my canopy homepage. I am learning as much as I can about Motorola Canopy by "adjusting and readjusting" the settings of the radio.
I have a static IP. Considering PPPoE!

**** Updated on 06/10/01 - As of May 10, 2001, I'm back to a dial-up connection. As you probably know, @Link went belly-up, so that's the end of dsl in Sussex for now. Ameritech does not have a dslam in the CO, nor do any other CLEC's, just @Link, and theirs is sitting there, frozen in bankruptcy for now. Whether any other CLEC will ever get into the Sussex CO, or Ameritech will ever decide to start giving us dsl service, is anybody's guess. For now, all we can do is investigate wireless and satellite service, or wait and wait and wait for Roadrunner to get here. I, for one, have decided to wait for RR. It's not easy to have great dsl (768/768) for eleven months, and then go back to a 56k dial-up. Oh, well.
I ordered a 384/128 dsl line from NConnect in late March, for home use in Sussex, WI, after getting the answers I wanted from the sales rep. I wanted to be able to run more than one computer on the line. In early April Ameritech came out to install the line, a week later @Link came and did the inside wiring but couldn't get the dsl to work, blamed it on Ameritech. Ameritech came out two days later and said their line was fine. About three weeks later an @Link guy showed up at my front door to "pick up the dsl pipe". I convinced him to do a little checking, because I couldn't buy one of the excuses I had heard, that I was "24000 feet from the CO". I'm a couple blocks away. He found that the dsl pipe was bad, swapped it and got a good connection, but that was on his laptop and he had to leave, so when they had my IP and gateway numbers, etc, ready for me, I couldn't get it to work on my pc. More calls and a couple weeks go by, then THEY CALL ME! to say they'll be out to install in two weeks. @Link shows up right on time, swaps out the dsl pipe again, and I've got the connection, on June 2. However, it's consistently about 109/728 or so, slow on the download and way too fast on the upload. Don't get any satisfaction with phone calls again, which by this time was not a surprise, but one night I wrote to their tech support, and the next afternoon it was up to speed. Think I'll stick with e-mail from now on. It's great having an always-on connection that doesn't tie up the phone lines. I have a static IP (actually I bought a block of them), and am using a dsl pipe from Lucent, the speed is fine now, I'm hoping that now that it's up and running things will be smoother, guess I must be an optimist.

I have a 384k bothways DSL. The installation process was very easy. Having the NIC installed in my computer already, and they just came in, ran the line and hooked the lines up to my NIC. After that I was all set. I have a Lucent Tech DSL Pipe line, with a 3Com NIC installed in my computer. I have 5 static IP's used to run more that one computer with the DSL. The speed is very very nice. Going from a 56k to this is great. Tech support is very nice and friendly. If I have a problem I call up and they fix the problem right away. Some problems have been that I have had some slow times but it's still faster than 56k!!!!
