I first got it over a year ago (Dec-01) so the specifics of ordering and time till live I can't remember. What I do remember is that the I got the line activation then I got the modem, in a timely manner. Installation was really simple. Tech support isn't all I seem to get out of them is free months and discounts. For the most part my family is happy with it. It's PPPoE, no contract

I've had AOL Broadband for 28 months and, overall, I'm pleased with it. I've had three downtimes, all involving the wire between my house and the TCO. All three problems (weekend ones, of course!) were resolved within 24 hours.

When ordering, no specific speed was specified, just "faster". Price, at the time, was an additional $19.95, over the standard unlimited dial-up price, then $21.95.

Order/install was relatively straight forward and simple. I called in the order, got e-mail confirmation of the order and e-mail notification of the line provisioning and e-mail confirmation of the shipment of the ActionTec Home DSL Modem.

I get 1 dynamic IP, and the usual 7 screen names.

Times change and prices go up! AOL Unlimited access is now $23.90/month and AOL for Broadband is now $31.05/month, making the total $54.95/month.

Would I jump ship? Nope. Not with one or two computers connected through AOL. If I get more computers, then I'll have to reassess things. Until then, I'm a happy clam!

Just got running with AOL DSL a month ago and it's fast! It kills my AOL dial-up speed by a mile! It came with a black modem called Actionec with filters and one ethernet cable. E-mail from AOL said my line was activated. Bellsouth charged me an activation fee. Oh well I got the thingy hooked up on WinXP and used the PPPoE that comes with XP. A speed test from atl.speakeasy.net shows 1244/211. Its great. I totally recommend it to any AOL dial-up users out there. I can't wait to buy a router! I want my other computers online too! Oh yeah! AOL reduced price to $40 a month so check it out you peoples!

    My Other Reviews·AT&T Southwest
Have had AOL DSL service since March 2002. Ordering was easy, self-install kit (Broadband Blaster modem, 4 phone line filters, ethernet cable, CD with modem drivers and quick-start instructions) arrived in 3 days and was easy to understand, SBC had the line set-up approximately 10 days after I ordered. It took 15 minutes max to hook up everything, load the drivers and be online.

When I ordered the advertised speeds were 768/128 but I get speeds of 1500/128, which is great by me. I use the AOL client part of the time and PPPoE part of the time.

I like the streaming newsfeeds and AOL Radio. The News Group selection and retention is good enough for me since I'm not a heavy user of that feature. I use AOL Communicator for e-mail so I can retrieve e-mail for all screen names at one time and have messages sorted into various folders.

I travel a lot at certain times of the year and, with unlimited dial-up, I can check e-mail when I'm on the road.

I've had one modem die since I've been on DSL and AOL replaced it after SBC verified there wasn't a line problem. It took about 7 days from AOL turning in a trouble ticket until I had a new modem (talking to SBC and having them check the line took about 3 days).

Last, but not least, my parents (both over 75 years old) use one of my screen names, so AOL is a good solution for me. They find AOL easy to use and can log in on a dial-up connection even if I'm online via DSL or PPPoE.

Ordered 1500 @ 26.95. Since I had sbc through aol, my line was already ramped up so I was live in about 4 days. Install process was easy; already had dsl. Dynamic pppoe through the router, works great. Consistently get 160 KB down, great service. Tech support was not needed for me, so I will just give it a good rting.

Well, I placed an order on February 5th and got the modem and the line provisioned on the 10th. Comes out to be that they placed DSL on the wrong line. I called and they said that my line was going to be ready the 19th. So, here I am waiting. Everything is ''worse'' because I haven't even gotten a chance to use it. As soon as I am connected I'll update my information. Now I'm using dial-up which is pretty good.

    Update-----------------

Today is the 19th and my isn't active!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I call and they say the 20th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a special time when verizon activates ur DSL line?????????

    Update-------------------
Today is the 20th and I call and they say the 28th. I'll just have to wait. Strike 3 but in strike 4 AOL is out!

    Update-------------------------
Today is the 24th and I got DSL. My speeds are between 650-800 down and 135 up according to DSL reports I am happy.

    Update-------------------
    My pings are between 52-58!!!!!!!!!
    Update----------------------

    Godddddddddddddddddddddddddd
    Service
My connection was down for about 30 seconds
My family is happy with it

    Update---------------------------------------

I know have had AOL DSL for like 2 months and it is so cool. My gf has AOL CABLE and she has 2.9 megabites according to DSL reports. I am planning to switching over to CABLE.

    Update----------------------------------------------------------------------
AOL just got better with AOL 8.0 PLUS. Well, the features are great. I heard about a new welcome screen. I can't get it. For some reason. If u'll like to help me IM me at Obelisk21.

    Update---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -
AOL's new price for ppl that have AOL through Verizon lines is great. Now, I only pay 39.99 a month. That includes unlimited dial-up and unlimited DSL. Also, 9.0 is coming. Remember, AOL is getting better.

    Update-----------------------------------------------------------------------
AOL DSL has been working smoothly the last few months. No connection drop-outs and it my DSL signal has been steady. I am capped at 768/128 and I get 752/135-6. AOL has beeen great!

    Update---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------
AOL 9.0 IS COMING! GREAT FEATURES! GREAT EVERYTHING!

Its been a while since I ordered AOL plus but its been a suprisingly good service.I started with the Actiontec modem(which they don't send out anymore)but it got fried in a thunderstorm and I had their new Broadband Blaster 3 or 4 days later which works great.

The ordering process was simple and I was up and going in about 4 days from my order,if you exclude the weekend.

I've never had any problems with connecting and would have to reccomend using this service if you like AOL.

It is kinda irritating having to use their software every time you want online but AOL has its little benefits that I probably shouldn't mention here.

The unlimited dial up is nice if you trave or if you want to check you mail at a friends house.

Overall its a good service and one worth considering no matter what the mindless "AOL sucks" people say.

    My Other Reviews·Verizon FIOS
I ordered AOL DSL back in November of 2002, and received the 720/128 package. The sales Reps were very friendly and took care of everything, no problems with install. Received the equipment, but didn't like the choice of equipment, so I sent it back for a Broadxent(Black) Modem which was 100x better than the white actiontec. Speed and service was excellent, my speed hung around 727/133 and never left there.

After Verizon offered the higher speed for the lower price, I decided to switch to them because AOL wouldn't let me upgrade to the 1.5/128K. When I cancelled they said that the speed I was getting was already 1.5mbps and it was just "Network Congestion, and home wiring" and I was too far from the CO. This was incorrect. First of all I had a Verizon Tech come inside my home and test my phone lines and he said they could handle 1.5mbps with no problem, and could not see a reason for such the slow speed. After this, I called my CO, which is only 4 blocks away from my house they said I was close enough to receive the 1.5mbps and recorded my distance at 3,980ft.

I left AOL because of the price as well. That price was outrageous. I dont even see why they needed to have a high price as 52 dollars a month, honestly. All they did was take the basic dial-up account and added on around 32 dollars extra (Plus GSP which is around 4 dollars). Also the rep tried to persuade me to stay by tempting me with offers (which I will not state). I didn't buy it.
