I ordered a 256K wireless conection for $39.95 with no commitments or contracts needed, they said, "We want you to use the service because it works and you like it, not because you are forced too." I had earllier tried Qwest DSL and Comcast with 'mixed feelings' in the "BIG CITY" of Ogden (it's not really very big), but after moving way out west into the sticks, they were the only ones who could get broadband out to me. I've been with them for over 2 years now and have never had a problem they didn't help me out with right away (mostly my own stupidity), I don't think their network has really ever been down the whole time I've been out here, except for two times when the power went out at their remote tower but they showed me how to dial in if it ever happens again, because I can't afford to be without Internet for ANY length of time. A few other wireless ISP's have popped up around the area since I moved out here but they are just little home-based businesses and I need RELIABILITY more than anything else and relia.net is just that! The installation of equipment went very smoothly, they set up a time to met me at my house, and they actually showed up on time. The guy briefly explained what he was going to do and helped me pick the best place to mount the little antenna on my roof and away he went, about an hour later he was done and showed me how to use it all. I had to purchase all the equipment (it cost me $399 for everything including the installation) but their little wireless router has a built-in firewall that takes care of all my IP addresses and DHCP stuff, so that was well worth it to me. They include a static IP (I need that for VPN to work) and they allow me to hook up other computers in my house (my wife really likes that) for no extra charge. I had heard good stuff about relia.net, and I did a lot of research, and I'm glad that I did, I've been very happy with them and would say it was a very good experience overall. I have some computer geek friends that have been with them for over 8 years now and speak highly of them as well. Peace and good luck in the quest for broadband!!! member for 17.9 years, 3 visits, last login: 17.6 years ago lodged 17.9 years ago

I have to say I'm very impressed with my wireless service. Although the equipment cost was about $950 dollars, if you can't get any other broadband it is worth it. My package speed is 1.5 Megabit up and down. During the day I get about 768k, during the night I get my full 1.5 megabit. The equipment consists of a 24 DBi antenna, Due to my distance from there array I had to get an 500 mW amp(which was $450). The computer connection is an Lucent Orinoco silver card, with and PCI card adapter and LMR-400 Cable. I use this connection for work and games. I have to say this is just as impressive as DSL when it comes to games. To local servers I ping between 30-40, and to out of state west coast servers I get between 50-110. I was also provided an static IP which is nice. My downloads average from 75 K to 150 K, which is awsome. I have experanced some packet loss but if it happens it only last for about 10 mins and the connection is never completely down. Relia.net for now just provides service in Ogden Utah. Overall I have to say I am very impressed with this service and I would HIGHLY suggest you get it if you can't get dsl or cable. Most wireless provides besides the big companys like Sprint have very good wireless service. If you have any questions just post them and I will try to answer them. member for 21 years, 612 visits, last login: 12 years ago lodged 21 years ago

Distance? What is your distance from the antenna? I am able to get a pretty good signal, but I am experiencing some pretty disturbing packet delays.
So Web/Email experience = ROX (great throughput) Game = Not so good, in that packet delay causes lag
I am not going with Radio with ReliaNet for this reason.

Not sure about bang for the buckFor the price which is pretty steep my service has been dropping off a lot. My original speeds were 1.5 mb to 2 mb but over the last month or so I can only get DSL speeds out of the connection 555K. Appears that they are a little over loaded and it's not getting better.

Re: Not sure about bang for the buckI have ReliaNET Wireless as well. I spoke with them at length about the decreasing speeds, and they told me that the main culprit had been with Napster and the excessive downloads from wireless users taking up a lot of bandwidth from the T1 line (which we all share) and thus affecting the speeds for everyone. They are looking at connecting onto a DS3 soon which will increase the bandwidth to 3Mbs instead of just 1.5Mbs, but that could be a few months. I personally am looking forward to that, and they have re-affirmed their committment to make it faster for us not slower. They also said if the Napster usage didn't taper down, they might limit the use of Napster on their servers, which personally I wish Napster would just go away - you can't get much there now anyway with the court orders in place. I say hang on - they're worth it - their some of the best around in service, in my opinion.

Re: Not sure about bang for the buckI will agree the techs have been great. I went to school with a few of them and they are great. The problem goes beyond Napster and people setting up home servers. People have flocked to the service and are still flocking to the service. So until the new servers and ds3 line we will have DSL performance at a premium price. You will notice connection speeds have been removed from the home page. I sold a number of my friends on changing there dial ups to relia and since they have picked up net arrow and blue ice the have as much fun connecting as people did to AOL a few years ago. So at the momment I will say it is not the finest of experiences but I will post as soon as they rectify the situation.

Re: Not sure about bang for the buckThanks for your comment. Hear hear! I had forgotten about the net arrow and blue ice customers. They really need to get going on the increased bandwidth due to increased (dramatic) customer base.

Well I just sent ReliaNet an e-mail asking them about when they expect improve their bandwidth given my wireless connection has dropped down to an average 300-400K sometimes. Hopefully I hear back soon, because I'm seriously considering switching to A T & T cable internet, because a neighbor of mine three doors up gets 2-3Mbs downloads. Wow - I'm jealous. The wireless satellite is capable of 5Mbs up/5Mbs down if they could get even a fractional DS3 that would support that amount of bandwidth to the internet. I'm frustrated.

Re: Not sure about bang for the buckI'm going to contact Relianet this afternoon and see what there plans are for this service. My speeds are currently 300 K or less. Will be in touch on there response.

Re: Not sure about bang for the buckHey there. I quit ReliaNet yesterday. I'm now with A T & T Cable and enjoying 3-3.8MB bandwidth now (400-400k/second download speeds) - it's wonderful - better than wireless at it's best when I signed up a year ago. I'm going to sell my equipment on EBAY.

ReliaNET Rules!I have been with ReliaNET now for 3 1/2 years. I started with dial-up after very disappointing service with XMISSION and eventually moved over to wireless last May '00 after attempting to get DSL and receiving very disappointing service with PSN.Net. Fortunately, both experiences led me to ReliaNET. It seems in my own experience as well as hearing others' experiences, I have to be grateful for the service I have with ReliaNET, which is consistently superior, reliable and now more diversified in options than ever. Why did I ever look elsewhere? I can call them and talk to a live person within minutes unlike others out there, average 30-45 minutes hold times. I can only count a few occasions in the past 3 1/2 years where there has been a problem, and usually USWEST was the cause with the T1 line going down. I highly recommend ReliaNET over anyone else in the Weber County/Ogden area. They can be counted on for good, stable, consistent service. They're continually looking for how to improve it as well.

I don't think soJust FYI they use Karlnet routers to bandwidth limit at the customer level. Their network reliability is decent in most areas. I used there service for a while but I have since switched to a better wireless ISP. I am not going to post there name because that would be wrong. I will say that Relia.net used to be better, now they bandwidth limit up the but and I know it made me upset.
