UPDATE: The Cancellation So I decided to move away from DSL (1.5mbits wasn't cutting it anymore and they could not do bridged connections anymore) I had voice and data with DSLi and when I canceled they charged me a "cancellation" fee even though I was under no contract or anything (had had their service for many YEARS) totally BS charge, wont be using their services or recommending them anymore everything below is very very old... History: HellSouth cut off my DSL line for an AUP violation on tuesday Thanksgiving weekend... DSLi had me back up and running on Sunday, switch over was pretty easy and they gave me my IP address and all the other info right away. The Order: I ordered their standard ADSL package (since I am on a HellSouth RDSLAM did not really have a choice hehe) rated @ 1500/256kbps @ $49.99/month. I placed the order via phone and the rest of it was done via email, thanks to my neighbor who let me hop on his wireless access point... I also moved my two phone lines (primary house line w/o dsl, and secondary line w/dsl) over to DSLi since I REALLY wanted to cut all ties with BellSouth, I really appreciated DSLi's ability to not only provide me with DSL but my local phone service, which came out cheaper than BS anyway, and gave me free calling to some areas that would ring up a pricy long distance bill on bellsouth... all in all, it went good. The Equipment: Dunno, saved myself the installation fee and used my trusty Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro, best modem ever IMO The Connection: While not as fast as BellSouth, I do get acceptable speeds of around 1400/200, best part is, NO PPPoE, STATIC IP!!! And their AUP does not out-law the running of servers at home, which is great becuase I run my personal website, my mail server, and various other things off of my DSL line and I very much like it that way Overall: I am very happy I finally moved over to DSLi, I only wish that maybe I could see slightly better speeds, or new packages offering more bandwith... also latency isnt so great sometimes, but usually I run just fine... Some people complain about their DNS servers, I havent really seen an issue with them, but I also have a nice list of backup DNS servers from other ISP's that don't restrict requests from inside their network so I have that covered.... Also a lot of reviews refer to their mail servers going down, honestly, I dont even know what my @DSLi.com email address is, since like I said before, I run my own mail server Uptime has been great, as seen on the page that got my BellSouth DSL ax'ed here: »uptime.netcraft.com/up/g ··· ecom.net (yes i know this is my server uptime, but you get the point...) or you can see my line stats here: »mrtg.flecom.net/IBM/ibm_1.html im hoping to add a latency/packet loss graph using RRDtool or whatever its called soon... have to get around to it you know Only other comment I have is that this IS a small comany, which is not a bad thing, but don't expect somone to pick up the phone for tech-support @ 2AM or something... this is definately an ISP for people that can troubleshoot issues on their end, or at least I would recommend it, but really, you should be able to anyway on any ISP since everyone can have issues regardless of ISP... member for 21.1 years, 827 visits, last login: 5.5 years ago updated 11.5 years ago
I had to wait around 9 months for broadband in my area, it was really a race between dsl and cable, luckily for me dsl won. DSLi is what I would call a no frills ISP, don't have a fancy website with, no 24 hour tech support; seems to be geared toward offices or power users. The connection is fantastic, low ping times, no port blocking, no PPPoE junk, static ip. The tech support is friendly and helpful, responding to emails and phone calls promptly. Modem was shipped quickly, and one quick call to tech support fixed a little glitch that was on the Bellsouth's end and I have been up and running for about a week. Speeds are as advertised 256kpsup, 1.5meg down. I highly recommend this ISP if your choice is DSL. ______________________ I would like to say that I have had service through DSLi at home for 6 months, and at work for about 9 months, and the service is fenomenal. The speed is always steady and constant, no outtages or downtime that I can recall. I am the network administrator at my company and if I ever have a problem that DSLi needs to resolve, they do so quickly and efficiently. Even though they don't have 24 hour tech support, their first level tech support is very knowledgeable and helpful compared to other ISPs I have had in the past. ________________________ Well I have been with DSLi for just over a year now and they have been great. Service is awesome, ultra reliable. My modem did start to flake on me but my sales rep replaced it free of charge even though the warranty was expired. All in a all, a really good ISP. ________________________ I have been with DSLi for nearly two years and they are still great. No known outtages, steady reliable connection. I wish they would offer 3.0 meg service. I read that they don't offer residential service any more, which is disappointing, hope they reconsider. ------------------------------------------- 8/25/09 i moved to comcast about 2 years ago simply because their speed was much lower than comcasts. I still wish the company well as I have next to no service interruptions member for 20.4 years, 24 visits, last login: 8.9 years ago updated 14.6 years ago
5 1/2 Year review Seems like dsli is being blacklisted. Noone on bellsouth can recieve my emails now. Hope they get this fixed or I will have to change. 5 YEAR REVIEW (AT LEAST) Wow I can't believe its been 5 years since I updated this. Whats even more incredible is how ugly this website still is.. oh well it works! lol Just like my DSLi... it works. So I don't have crazy fast download speeds but I'm stable and its been stable for 5 years. Service was great. I'm updating my review as I had them come out an install another PCDATA port in my garage as I have to move the office downstairs due to the baby fest in my life. All good. Quick install, good service, problem solved. Anyways if your a regular user who wants regular reliability, no issues and a fast enough internet speed... this is your ISP. If your a mega geek and want to run some cool stuff at home for learning, XBOX Live, major games and so forth then you DEFINITELY need this ISP. If your from South Florida then you shouldnt even think about it and just call them right now and support a local business! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- 14 MONTH REVIEW These guys are rock solid... and I am a whiner as well either looking for problems or most usually creating them. They could have higher speeds and I am sure they will eventually get faster but the reliability for my needs has been incredible. Hats off guys... .................................................................................................................... 8 MONTH REVIEW Hi Folks, Just another update on my service. I have been EXTREMELY pleased to say the least with DSLi. At first it took some time off and on to get things going but my service, knock on wood, has been INCREDIBLE and I just wanna update my review to reflect that. Since my last review I have added email and webservers and everything has been perfect. I honestly can't remember the last time I did not have service. DSLi is a great choice for Internet services in Miami. They allow you to pay online, have friendly support and more importantly a stable service. I am a happy camper when it comes to my ISP. jason ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- OLD REVIEW After a move to a permanent residence I was looking for a static IP and a good company I could create a long term relationship with to meet all my ISP needs. After a fair amount of research I decided to part with Bellsouth and try DSLi. I had been a satisfied Bellsouth customer for 2 years but I was looking for a static IP and DSLi seemed like a good fit. Sales went very smooth and within a week I had an appointment with a tech to set up my PCDATA connection(see below). Things got a bit hairy after that but I cannot place all the blame on DSLi. After about two weeks, multiple tech visits with Bellsouth and DSLi, some configuration problems and finally an inside wiring fix I had my connection working. This is in part due to a number of issues including a new neighborhood/house and the distinction between a PCDATA connection as compared to a regular ADSL connection. All technicality aside I figured almost as much. All in all almost 2 weeks more than anticipated. I have been connected for about 2 months now and for the most part it has been stable except for a problem earlier this week that was resolved within a day. What I like most about DSLi is that now when I call I know that as soon as I say my name they pretty much know who I am and will provide me with excellent service which is what I am looking for in a long term ISP relationship. Being forwarded to some call center God knows well just isnt the same. And when a Systems/Network Engineer calls you at home 8:00 at night to work on your issue and leaves an email that feels good too. All in all I am very satisfied with my service so far. A bit shaky at the start but I feel very confident with my service at present. The way I look at it is, that for the most part, in my area all ISP's are working on the same lines and when those lines are down your down no matter what ISP you have. So what I am looking for is great service and thats what I have been getting. Hopefully it will stay that way. Tech Specs ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- =>PCDATA connection (not DSL...basically its a toned down 10 mbps ethernet connection..no modem required) =>Static IP delivered via PPPoE =>Downloading/Surfing at 1400 kbps and uploading at around 250 kbps ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- member for 20.8 years, 17 visits, last login: 14.3 years ago updated 15.3 years ago
I have been using DSLi since January 2003 and the service has only gone down 3 times (Wilma, and twice because of BellSouth screw ups). Price is 49.95 for my 3 MB speed, needed PTR and after submitting the reason it was granted. The tech support is great and will stick with the issue until it is resolved, they treat me like family. Overall I am very happy with the service and have recommended DSLi to several of my friends, most of whom have signed up with them. member for 22.7 years, 71 visits, last login: 12 years ago lodged 15.7 years ago
We signed up with this company a year ago for internet and telephone service. Since the beginning we noticed that our phone numbers were not being displayed on the receivers caller ID, instead a different number displays. We contacted DLSi and were told that listing the number was required. To do that, they wanted to charge us for listing the numbers. After several emails they agree to do it free of charge(Upon checking our bill this month I realized they have been charging us for the listing that actually does not solve our problem). After insisting that we need to display our real telephone numbers since this misleads our customers and I even think it is considered illegal because many Telemarketing companies used to use this technique, they told us it was not possible(I have never heard of any company doing that and we have never had this problem before). Then we decided to switch to another telephone company, but it turns out that apparently their agreement stipulates that the contract auto renews after the first year(Which we never were told). We are now being held hostage by this company with the threat that if we switch our service we have to pay a penalty for early termination, despite the fact that they are violating the contract since our real numbers are not being displayed. This company was found guilty in 2004 of illegally freezing customers lines by the Tallahassee Service Public Commission. After we told them that we were switching to another phone company we received a call from their VP of Sales and Marketing. He was nice at the beginning of the conversation, but after we told him we would stay with them because of their deceptive practices he turned aggressive and threatened with the early termination fee and the contract. We highly advise against this company. We have never seen other telephone/internet companies acting like this. member for 16.5 years, 8 visits, last login: 14.7 years ago updated 16.4 years ago
Switched DSL circuit from Speakeasy.net to DSLi - Ordered 3.0/384 circuit on April 23, 2007. Changed the network connection within 4 business days. Modem was hand brought to my house by my Sales Rep (Phil)!! Can't beat that.. As for the price I got 3.0 services from DSLi for $59.95, no port blocking (able to run my mail & web servers), Speakeasy on the other hand doesn't offer 3.0 only 1.5 & then 6.0...way to pricey for my pocket.... I have run some speed test and found that I barely get 1659 kbps down, and about 284 kbps up. I have read some other users in the DSLi forum stating that there network is pretty slow..I've also heard they run a single DS3 (45MB) connection for there DSL ATM network.. THIS IS REALLY BAD! Only downside to my new account is that they now require all DSL circuits to be on PPPOE instead of BRIDGED connection...limited to one outside I.P. Address. I also had problems with the modem loosing sync with the DSLAM every 10 min(s), and worst at night. Made a call to DSLi and they disptached a Bellsouth tech. - the tech ran an MLT loop and found it clean he told me that it looks and sounds like a break somewhere in the copper run back to the terminal box down a few houses. He stated that Bellsouth would not dig up anything nor fix the underground cabling. He then said "off the record" that in order to repair/fix the sync problem I needed to have a termimal box installed for my line which would be placed if I I purchased two additional voice lines...so i did! And after 2 days Bellsouth sent out a crew and repaired the line - no more loosing sync....and now I have a new copper pair running to the NID to the terminal box. So after 3 weeks i'm going to disconnect the lines, and I keep the newly installed terminal outside. Pictures are below. Support is one of a kind - call during the day and hold times are short, after 6 pm hold times can go up to 20-30 min(s), but once you get a tech. on the line they are excellent at resolving issues. I’ve been a DSLi customer for more than 3 years now. Good service and good tech support. They have taken problems I’ve had seriously and their tech support (based in the U.S. thankfully) is very helpful. This is an ISP for the more technically inclined, but the uptime and stability cannot be beat! Love the ability to run my own email and web servers too…. member for 22.3 years, 554 visits, last login: 16.5 years ago lodged 17.5 years ago
DSLI tech support now states that all residentail customers are having speed problems with no clear date for fixing. My upload rate is faster than my download rate. Been crawling for a week now, tech support says "we're oversubscribed' and it should be fixed "in about a week" meanwhile the billing department refuses to give credit other than 10.00 member for 21.2 years, 30 visits, last login: 12.9 years ago lodged 17.7 years ago

06/2006 -- Dropped them. Speeds kept getting worse. Was getting 800/180 on a supposed 1500/256 line Tech support was non-existant on weekends (more than once), so I actually gave up calling.... Changed to BellSouth and speeds were there again. 01/29/2005 -- Still happy with service. Occassional short downtime. But certainly less than some of my cohorts with other ISPs. DSLi has sent a couple of you are late with payment notices via email in the last year, but then sent a "sorry, our fault" notices after I called. Otherwise, all is well, and I am staying.same). 4/26/2004 -- I moved to a new home, New IP address (was told it should stay the Switchover would have been flawless, if BellSloth had done their part on time..... Still getting same speeds and uptimes. Won't be changing yet. 9-21-2003 -- All is still fine. The E-mail problems aren't really affecting me, since I use a web based mail. It stays up, and other than the viral problems of the world, response times remain good. DSLi was my choice after DirecTv decided to quit the business. After having such good luck with Telocity, and then DirecTv, I hoped it would continue with DSLi. It has. Other than an occassional short outage with the mail and DNS servers (10 minutes here and there), I've not experienced any elongated down-time. My only wish for improvement would be for 24 hour technical support. However, I realize that would increase the rates, so, I accept the trade-off. Simply put, If I wasn't satisfied, I'd switch...... And I haven't!!! member for 21.9 years, 1230 visits, last login: 11.1 years ago updated 17.8 years ago |
