I had to wait around 9 months for broadband in my area, it was really a race between dsl and cable, luckily for me dsl won. DSLi is what I would call a no frills ISP, don't have a fancy website with, no 24 hour tech support; seems to be geared toward offices or power users. The connection is fantastic, low ping times, no port blocking, no PPPoE junk, static ip. The tech support is friendly and helpful, responding to emails and phone calls promptly. Modem was shipped quickly, and one quick call to tech support fixed a little glitch that was on the Bellsouth's end and I have been up and running for about a week. Speeds are as advertised 256kpsup, 1.5meg down. I highly recommend this ISP if your choice is DSL.
______________________
I would like to say that I have had service through DSLi at home for 6 months, and at work for about 9 months, and the service is fenomenal. The speed is always steady and constant, no outtages or downtime that I can recall. I am the network administrator at my company and if I ever have a problem that DSLi needs to resolve, they do so quickly and efficiently. Even though they don't have 24 hour tech support, their first level tech support is very knowledgeable and helpful compared to other ISPs I have had in the past.

Well I have been with DSLi for just over a year now and they have been great. Service is awesome, ultra reliable. My modem did start to flake on me but my sales rep replaced it free of charge even though the warranty was expired. All in a all, a really good ISP.

I have been with DSLi for nearly two years and they are still great. No known outtages, steady reliable connection. I wish they would offer 3.0 meg service. I read that they don't offer residential service any more, which is disappointing, hope they reconsider.

i moved to comcast about 2 years ago simply because their speed was much lower than comcasts. I still wish the company well as I have next to no service interruptions

Seems like dsli is being blacklisted. Noone on bellsouth can recieve my emails now. Hope they get this fixed or I will have to change.
5 YEAR REVIEW (AT LEAST)
Wow I can't believe its been 5 years since I updated this. Whats even more incredible is how ugly this website still is.. oh well it works! lol Just like my DSLi... it works. So I don't have crazy fast download speeds but I'm stable and its been stable for 5 years. Service was great. I'm updating my review as I had them come out an install another PCDATA port in my garage as I have to move the office downstairs due to the baby fest in my life. All good. Quick install, good service, problem solved. Anyways if your a regular user who wants regular reliability, no issues and a fast enough internet speed... this is your ISP. If your a mega geek and want to run some cool stuff at home for learning, XBOX Live, major games and so forth then you DEFINITELY need this ISP. If your from South Florida then you shouldnt even think about it and just call them right now and support a local business! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------
14 MONTH REVIEW
These guys are rock solid... and I am a whiner as well either looking for problems or most usually creating them. They could have higher speeds and I am sure they will eventually get faster but the reliability for my needs has been incredible. Hats off guys...

8 MONTH REVIEW
Hi Folks,
Just another update on my service. I have been EXTREMELY pleased to say the least with DSLi. At first it took some time off and on to get things going but my service, knock on wood, has been INCREDIBLE and I just wanna update my review to reflect that. Since my last review I have added email and webservers and everything has been perfect. I honestly can't remember the last time I did not have service. DSLi is a great choice for Internet services in Miami. They allow you to pay online, have friendly support and more importantly a stable service. I am a happy camper when it comes to my ISP.
jason ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- OLD REVIEW
After a move to a permanent residence I was looking for a static IP and a good company I could create a long term relationship with to meet all my ISP needs. After a fair amount of research I decided to part with Bellsouth and try DSLi. I had been a satisfied Bellsouth customer for 2 years but I was looking for a static IP and DSLi seemed like a good fit. Sales went very smooth and within a week I had an appointment with a tech to set up my PCDATA connection(see below). Things got a bit hairy after that but I cannot place all the blame on DSLi. After about two weeks, multiple tech visits with Bellsouth and DSLi, some configuration problems and finally an inside wiring fix I had my connection working. This is in part due to a number of issues including a new neighborhood/house and the distinction between a PCDATA connection as compared to a regular ADSL connection. All technicality aside I figured almost as much. All in all almost 2 weeks more than anticipated. I have been connected for about 2 months now and for the most part it has been stable except for a problem earlier this week that was resolved within a day. What I like most about DSLi is that now when I call I know that as soon as I say my name they pretty much know who I am and will provide me with excellent service which is what I am looking for in a long term ISP relationship. Being forwarded to some call center God knows well just isnt the same. And when a Systems/Network Engineer calls you at home 8:00 at night to work on your issue and leaves an email that feels good too. All in all I am very satisfied with my service so far. A bit shaky at the start but I feel very confident with my service at present. The way I look at it is, that for the most part, in my area all ISP's are working on the same lines and when those lines are down your down no matter what ISP you have. So what I am looking for is great service and thats what I have been getting. Hopefully it will stay that way.
Tech Specs ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------- =>PCDATA connection (not DSL...basically its a toned down 10 mbps ethernet connection..no modem required) =>Static IP delivered via PPPoE =>Downloading/Surfing at 1400 kbps and uploading at around 250 kbps ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------

I have been using DSLi since January 2003 and the service has only gone down 3 times (Wilma, and twice because of BellSouth screw ups). Price is 49.95 for my 3 MB speed, needed PTR and after submitting the reason it was granted. The tech support is great and will stick with the issue until it is resolved, they treat me like family. Overall I am very happy with the service and have recommended DSLi to several of my friends, most of whom have signed up with them.

We signed up with this company a year ago for internet and telephone service. Since the beginning we noticed that our phone numbers were not being displayed on the receivers caller ID, instead a different number displays. We contacted DLSi and were told that listing the number was required. To do that, they wanted to charge us for listing the numbers. After several emails they agree to do it free of charge(Upon checking our bill this month I realized they have been charging us for the listing that actually does not solve our problem). After insisting that we need to display our real telephone numbers since this misleads our customers and I even think it is considered illegal because many Telemarketing companies used to use this technique, they told us it was not possible(I have never heard of any company doing that and we have never had this problem before).
Then we decided to switch to another telephone company, but it turns out that apparently their agreement stipulates that the contract auto renews after the first year(Which we never were told). We are now being held hostage by this company with the threat that if we switch our service we have to pay a penalty for early termination, despite the fact that they are violating the contract since our real numbers are not being displayed. This company was found guilty in 2004 of illegally freezing customers lines by the Tallahassee Service Public Commission.
After we told them that we were switching to another phone company we received a call from their VP of Sales and Marketing. He was nice at the beginning of the conversation, but after we told him we would stay with them because of their deceptive practices he turned aggressive and threatened with the early termination fee and the contract.
We highly advise against this company. We have never seen other telephone/internet companies acting like this.

| Blaming the Messenger I could not disagree with you more in your assessment of DSLi. They were more than competent in installing and maintaining my service. Anytime there was an issue they resolved it in a timely manner.
With respect to your telephone numbers it sounds like you have what the industry calls remote call forward numbers or digital numbers. Typically a phone company will give a customer remote call forward numbers when they move their office outside the boundaries of the serving central office, and the customer would like to maintain their original telephone number(s). The issue inherent with these types of numbers is that new analog numbers must be installed and those numbers will be displayed when calling outbound.
There is no real fix to the issue that you are having all telephone companies are going to display your outbound caller ID the same unless you go to Voice over IP. And if you have multiple analog telephone lines all dialed calls out are going to display different telephone numbers. Again this will happen with any carrier.
Take it from someone that has had service with many different providers. You are in good hands with DSLi. And just FYI displaying a different telephone number with your company name is not illegal. At the end of the day the ILEC in this case AT&T controls the outbound caller ID for analog telephone lines. | |

| Re: Blaming the Messenger Bigjumamnji, I am not in good hands with DSLi. I hope you do not work for DSLi or have been sent by them to reply to my comments. You may disagree but the facts are real and you can not disproof them.
We never had that problem with our previous telephone company . They were always able to display our real numbers, so there is nothing to fix here. In this case we did not move outside the boundaries of our CO (I know exactly where our CO is), that is why I do not know why DLSi can not do it o don't want to do it. I also called Bellsouth and other companies and they told me there was no reason not to display our real numbers.
An honest and reliable company does not:
1.Auto renews your contract without telling you(This is the first company that does this to us). 2. Does not freeze telephone lines without customer's authorization. DSLi was found to violate this in 2004 by the Florida Public Service Commission and I have the documents that prove it since it is public record. 3. Threatens the customer, instead of trying to resolve the issues and problems.
I hope that people who read this are aware of what they can face if they join DSLi. We might have to pursue legal action but are also considering other avenues. It has been a long road, but consumers are keeping their eyes more opened and fighting back at this kinds of deceptive practices. If anyone has had the same experience or knows about this problem with DSLi I would appreciate getting in touch with us. | |

Ive been a DSLi customer for more than 3 years now. Good service and good tech support. They have taken problems Ive had seriously and their tech support (based in the U.S. thankfully) is very helpful.
This is an ISP for the more technically inclined, but the uptime and stability cannot be beat!
Love the ability to run my own email and web servers too

DSLI tech support now states that all residentail customers are having speed problems with no clear date for fixing. My upload rate is faster than my download rate.
Been crawling for a week now, tech support says "we're oversubscribed' and it should be fixed "in about a week"
meanwhile the billing department refuses to give credit other than 10.00

06/2006 -- Dropped them. Speeds kept getting worse. Was getting 800/180 on a supposed 1500/256 line Tech support was non-existant on weekends (more than once), so I actually gave up calling.... Changed to BellSouth and speeds were there again.
01/29/2005 -- Still happy with service. Occassional short downtime. But certainly less than some of my cohorts with other ISPs. DSLi has sent a couple of you are late with payment notices via email in the last year, but then sent a "sorry, our fault" notices after I called. Otherwise, all is well, and I am staying.same).
4/26/2004 -- I moved to a new home, New IP address (was told it should stay the Switchover would have been flawless, if BellSloth had done their part on time..... Still getting same speeds and uptimes. Won't be changing yet.
9-21-2003 -- All is still fine. The E-mail problems aren't really affecting me, since I use a web based mail. It stays up, and other than the viral problems of the world, response times remain good.
DSLi was my choice after DirecTv decided to quit the business. After having such good luck with Telocity, and then DirecTv, I hoped it would continue with DSLi. It has.
Other than an occassional short outage with the mail and DNS servers (10 minutes here and there), I've not experienced any elongated down-time. My only wish for improvement would be for 24 hour technical support. However, I realize that would increase the rates, so, I accept the trade-off.
Simply put, If I wasn't satisfied, I'd switch...... And I haven't!!!

I was with Telocity (DirecTV) for almost 3 years before Hughs pulled the plug on that wonderful ISP. Being forced to make a transition that I really didn't want to I went ahead and dove in with both feet. Knowing that DTV was working to transition customers automatically to their last mile provider I went ahead and cancelled my service with DTV as I absolutly did not want to take ANY chances getting stuck with BellSouth DSL (been there, done that and would rather do without internet than go with them in every case.)
The main reasons I chose DSLi was they offered the same thing that I had with Telocity (DirecTV)... same price per month, no contract, static IP, the ISP's blessing on running email, ftp and web servers at home as well as not having a problem setting up a home network. (I have 7 pc's on my network.) A note here: DSLi tech support does not do ANY troubleshooting or support for LANs.
I had two problems in which I had to call tech support on. 1) After I got everything setup to connect to DSLi I could not surf nor ping the gateway or DNS server. A quick call to tech support, a few questions and answers and a call was put into BS at my CO to reset the port and I was up and running in no time at all. Total time from first ring to hangup was about 30 minutes. Kudos to Mike! Wonderful job. All tech support could take a lesson from him. 2) The other problem was not DSLi's problem. Non-surfing issues when the SQL worm was rampant. I just dealt with it and it passed as time went on.
The only real problem that I have seen has been the email. It seems that it can be flaky at times and therefore unavailable, however, it is up most of the time and responds *extremely* fast when functional.
What I am supposed to get speedwise is 1500/256. What I actually get is 1200-1250/220. I can live with that as I am about 25,000 feet from the CO.
For more on my speed info look up 33437 zip code and look for my DSLR handle Avantare.
All in all DSLi is an exceptionally great ISP especially given the fact that Elais (a VP for DSLi) monitors the DSLR - DSLi forums daily and is very willing to help out with *any* problems encountered. Now THAT is customer serveice. I plan on being with DSLi for years to come.

---------- LONG over due update 03/28/05 ---------
I'm not sure of the date of my initial review of DSLi. If memory serves it was 2-3 years ago. (EDIT: 2 years and 2 months). Whenever DirecTV/Telocity pulled the plug. I have been extremely happy with the service offered by DSLi with 1.5 exceptions. The main exception is the terrible news service. Retention is terrible and they cap the dl's to 500MB per month. I'm a binary junkie and this is not acceptible to me so I went and subscribed to an outsourced news service. No sense in gripping about it, just do it. The NG I choose satisfies my needs very well on this front. The .5 problem is the email service is still somewhat flakey but better than it was when I first signed up. My speed up/down is rock solid steady at 1300/220. No complaints at all in this category.
I still have yet to call tech support for anything other than what I have mentioned in my initial review. That's indicative to me of an ISP that cares about what their customers recieve from them on the network side. Tech support isn't 24/7 nor do they do weekends. But it doesn't really matter to me because I have no problems with anything.
I will be with DSLi in the forseeable future. No need to change when it is just that good.
---------- Update 02/10/06 ---------
I had Adelphia install a cable modem yesterday. After a bit of tweaking I have it up and running finally. I will continue to post here until I finally(?) drop DSLi. Could be this month could be April.
The reason this has come about is threefold. 1) I get an extra $20 fee tacked onto my phone bill every month. Thank you BellSouth. I need to do away with it. 2) Cable is competitive in their pricing. 3) The speeds I get are about twice as much as DSLi. 1.5/256 DSL vs 3.0/450 for cable.
What will I miss from from DSLi is the static IP, the rock solid connection and their blessing to run servers as well as their knowledgable tech support.
Chuck
