    ·RoadRunner Cable
I have RoadRunner from BrightHouse Networks in Tampa Bay. Saw the V* guys out digging up my yard and ask what was going on. They said FIOS. I asked when could I sign up. Six Months later I called V* and asked what they offered on FIOS. Same crappy mail servers as V* DSL, no servers and IP addy's that change like the wind.

Called Tampabay DSL (Tampa Bay Fiber) and spoke to Brad. Told him that I would like to try a fiber connection but did not want V* T's & C's. He said no problem and by the end of the day he had a V* installer scheduled for the next week.

Two days later the v* trenching sub came out and layed the optic up to the residence and left. Even cleaned up and tunneled under the drive way. V* installer came out and hung the ONT on the outside and the BBU in the garage. Called into mother ship and closed the ticket. I called Brad at TBDSL and Bill gave me an IP, Subnet mask and gateway. I was up on Fiber Optic in less than 15 minutes. Couldn't have been easier.

I have not gotten a speedtest over 1500 down. I have done realworld test and dslreports for the past 2 weeks. I can however get 3000 down speeds from anything off there servers.

The price is hard to beat, but if you want top preformance you may have to look else where. More updates as they become available

Was originally with GTE when DSL first came available around December of 2000. Ordered the 768/128 service and was installed in less than a week. Then it became Verizon. Still no real service problems to speak of, but support was terrible. I got an email from them offering 1.5/128 UPGRADE for $10 more per month, sounds good to me, lets order it. The next day my connection was dead. Called support, was transferred to billing and service was reactivated, but was told I could'nt UPGRADE. I would have to cancel my 768 and order NEW service. Argued with them, then was transferred to another department called provisioning I think and was told that they could UPGRADE me to 1.5/128 A few weeks later, 1.5/128 service still not working. Called again to ask about it, they had no information on the upgrade. Great!. Ordered the upgrade again, the next day, my connection was dead again. Called billing, got it turned back on and asked to speak to a manager. Explained to him what was happening, told me he would check it out and call me back in a few days, which he did, and put me on a "Presidential Appeal" After 2 months of going back and forth with them, I was finally told I could not get 1.5/128. So I called Tampabay DSL and was up and running, WITH 1.5/128 and static IP in 5 days.

When service was initially turned on, it was faster than Verizon, but still seemed slow for 1.5 I called tech support at 11:20pm and got a call back in less than 5 minutes. Said I was only connected at 768/128 and that he was already working on the problem and check it again in 2 to 3 hours. 45 minutes later I am getting download speeds of 175kbps I have called them 2 other times about problems with my network in my house, not their responsibility, but they took the time to help me anyway.

My mother was also a Verizon DSL customer. I called TampabayDSL to switch her over, and was told there was some line conditioning that needed to be dealt with first, which they handled. Verizon came out and replaced some equipment by the street and replaced the wiring right up to her house. With Verizon 768/128 she would get 40 to 50kbps. With TampabayDSL 768/128 she gets 90kbps. Took a little longer to get her service , but seems the holdup was getting Verizon to do what they needed to do first. After they fixed their problems, on a Tuesday afternoon, I went over there later that same evening, checked the modem and it was already online. The bottom line is these guys get the job done and have a solid service.

    UPDATE 04/04/03

Been with TampabayDSL now for almost 16 months. Service and speed has been rock solid. I have been notified ahead of time when they have planned outages for upgrades, and they always take less time to perform than they say it will take. Recently upgraded to the 384k upload speed, but couldn't get over 130k. They determined that it was my modem that was causing the problem and a technician replaced it the next morning. If you live within their service area, and want reliable, fast internet access, I highly recommend TampabayDSL.

    UPDATE 07/19/04

Still running strong. No service interruptions, speed is still consistent, reliability is outstanding. Humans still answer the phones. Even late at night, calls are returned very promptly. When I call them, I still talk to the same people that I've talked to since day one. Now just waiting for them to get the new 3.0mbit speeds. YES I WILL be upgrading!

    UPDATE 08/18/04

3.0/768 went live on Monday, exactly when they told me if would be working. And it is FAST! Thank you TampabayDSL for rock solid performance and unmatched customer service.

    My Other Reviews·VoicePulse
I found Tampa Bay DSL by accident. I was sitting on hold with Verizon AGAIN...and decided to look up alternatives. I was really just looking for info to throw back at the Verizon rep, who repeatedly told me I simply could not get a 1.5/384 line. (though the Verizon Business side said I could, for $90 a month)

Tampa Bay DSL pulled up, and I zipped them off an inquiry. Bill Heinz emailed me back less than 5 minutes later with the details of their offerings, which included exactly what I was looking for..... 1.5/384 for $60 a month. I was pretty leary about changing providers, because I knew that if it didn't work out, under the new Verizon plan I would get stuck with a 768/128 for the same price I had been paying for my grandfathered 1.5/128. He walked me through the entire process, made sure I knew exactly what to expect, and then handled the entire thing himself.

My connection was up within 3 days of Verizon releasing the line, and the speed couldn't be better.
    Advertised speed: 1500/384
Actuall speed: 1380/381 *note that I am 13,500ft from the CO, with 12,000ft of 26 guage wire*

My 1500/128 with Verizon never exceeded 1160 down.

The package includes 5 email addresses, web space, and multiple dynamic IPs. Static IPs can be added for an additional fee, but I didn't need them. They also provided a free modem, and no setup fee.

I have called them a total of 5 times now. The first 4 calls were all answered by a real person (no automated voices or hold patterns) The 5th was after hours on a Saturday night, and I got their voicemail. Everything else was almost too good to be true, so I figured this was the catch I had been waiting for. But to my surprise, they returned my call in less than 2 minutes!

In summary, their connection is great, prices are great, but neither compare to their high level of customer service. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

    Update:
It has been several months now, and I can report TBDSL is still going strong. My connection has gone down only 3 times, the first two with advance warning, lasted 30 minutes, the last (seems something actually blew up) was fixed in about an hour.

I've been taking advantage of the multiple IPs they offer, connecting 3 PCs and 2 VoIP boxes directly, with others behind a router. The only time I have seen a WAN IP change is when I change an ethernet card. (the new MAC address pulls a new IP) One box has had the same IP for over 6 months, even after being offline for 2 weeks at a time. Their service is amazing, speeds have been great. Actual speeds on the 1500/384 line are steady at 1460/380.

I am on line 24/7 as I work out of my home and I am very happy with Tampa Bay DSL. I had another ISP for about 6 months, and due to the down time I kept experiencing, I needed to find another ISP and settled on Tampa Bay DSL. I have been using their service for about 1-1/2 years now and have no complaints. Even when there have been small issues to resolve, the company is responsive, reliable, even off-hours.

I highly recommend Tampa Bay DSL!

Ordering the service was extremely easy. I first contacted TampaBayDSL by phone and guess what a human answered. I talked a few things over with him and I explained what I needed (1.5M/384K with Static IP). I was told that it would be no problem and to head on over to the website to submit my order. Three days later a Westell WireSpeed DSL modem arrived with an email detailing my IP, Gateway, Subnet and DNS information. At this point both TBDSL and I were waiting for Verizon to get things going. To make this story short I had to wait three weeks for Verizon to figure out what was screwed up. They had me phone number wired to the incorrect address somewhere in their network. But I will say they had no problem sending the bill to the correct address. After a few trouble tickets and order escalations my DSL was finally activated 30 days after I ordered it.

TampaBayDSL was extremely helpful and honest during this ordeal. They even offered me a free dial up account so I would have access to the internet. I’m giving TampaBayDSL an overall rating of 4 ½ out of 5. Although it took 30 days to get me going I know that it was not their fault.

The only problem I'm having is with high pings during gaming. When doing a Trace Route I can see that it take sometimes 250-500ms to take the first hop to the gateway.

My network at home consists of a 5 computer network, 3 of which are connected to a 4 port wireless Linksys router and 2 wireless connections. Running the speed test on the TBDSL website gives me a 1.42M / 381K on average. With download around 140kb/s on average.

I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a real deal DSL connection in Tampa.

good overall service for most users. But if you are in search of the lowest possible pings then sdsl or a T1 is what you will need. Dont get me wrong it still pings better than some isps. Its just that if you are at the top of the game in your fps game the 30 ms difference from this service and what can be had on sdsl or t1 is a huge difference with instant hit weapons.

Overall a good isp for the money that is spent.

Faultless service: in one years time, down twice off hours that I'm aware in one year - warned one of two times and both were in the range of minutes.
Expert tech service is best available, and can reach them very easily (!).
    My 750/128 connection runs constantly 700-740/138 (24/7).

If you live near the Florida Gulf Bay and can get DSL, these guys can beat anyone out there, especially the big no-service guys who don't have one good tech available. Even though I know its rarely their fault, I call in and these experts will walk me through most any interface problem (except maybe set up a network system, lol). They also help by suggesting reliable equipment vendors for evolving systems and needs.

One of the very best businesses available in an industry of poor average service, and their dsl reliability is near perfect.

I ordered business SDSL 768/768 service. It was up and running in exactly the time frame described. I get good solid performance on up and downloads.

My overall impression is that Tampabay DSL is small enough to provide personal service, but big enough to really deliver a great service. They seem to run rings around the 'big boys' that hide behind a National Brand indentity. I would say that one Tampabay DSL rep.equals 5 reps from other companies. I haven't experienced any of the horror stories that other people seem to have with other companies. It just takes one phone call to get results or just answers to your questions.

"Great ISP switch-over support"
"Piggy backs off Verizon local loop"
"$12 less per month than Verizon, with better upload speed."
Pre Sales information:

Tech Support:
Value for money:

For the past two years my previous ISP and local loop was Verizon 728/128 . I decided to switch to TampaBayDSL because Verizon's upload speed never exceeded 30. I ordered the fastest upload speed the local loop would support, 728/128, and 3 static IP's.

TampaBayDSL assisted tremendously in the transfer of ISP services from Verizon. TampaBayDSL established a conference call to Verizon that allowed me to confirm that TampaBayDSL correctly ordered the ISP switch. Verizon then refused to say when they would make the switch, never informed anyone when they made the switch, made the wrong switch, and offered to try again at some undetermined time in the future. Sound familiar? Over two hours on the phone, I was transferred to ten different Verizon representatives in five different departments. Maybe that's what Verizon's $60 switch-over fee covers.

TampaBayDSL took the initiative to make six more calls to Verizon and was able to escalate and close the Verizon issue. I listened on one conference call when the TampaBayDSL technician had to explain to the Verizon technician how to map the Verizon frame relay circuit to the TampaBayDSL ATM circuit.

After installation, my upload speed still remained the slow 30 Kbps. One call to TampaBayDSL is all it took to get this to 121 Kbps. TampaBayDSL called Verizon and discovered my local loop connected to an archaic card that would never deliver more than 30 Kbps. TampaBayDSL expedited the resolution in 24 hours... something I could not get Verizon to even admit was their problem!

Thanks TampaBayDSL for professional, knowledgeable support and the patience to educate the forever-clueless and shameless Verizon behemoth.
