We started using Atlanta Sky/World Skyline's DSL service at our company around 1 1/2 years ago. At first we were satisfied. There was very little down-time and customer service was available when needed. About 10 months ago we began noticing more and more equipment failure. This prompted us to begin exploring new ISP companies. Later, our primary contact, Richard, left the company. Service began falling off quickly as the company became far less capable of handling technical issues.
We began the process of switching to a new provider. A few months ago, I received a phone call from an Atlanta Sky competitor advising me to switch to his company--that Northpoint would soon stop providing DSL service to Atlanta Sky. I called the VA headquarters of World Skyline and was told this was not true. Unfortunately it was true. Atlanta Sky had decided to stop providing DSL service and were not going to tell us about it until it was too late. Fortunately we were prepared.

This company has traditionally treated me very well in support issues. I know this because the upstream providers have sucked so badly and have had to call World Skyline support so many times(Megapop and Covad). Neither upstream provider is good about supplying feedback or timely resolution for reported problems so getting a problem fixed is always a crapshoot.
But now, I have changed my mind about World Skyline for a couple very important reasons: 1. They do not pre-inform subscribers of pending maintenance or system changes. A recent change to the email system has left my account unusable. Since they didn't preannounce the change, I am betting that any email sent to my account regarding the change was sent afterward. Otherwise, you must monitor their website for information. With DSL, I'd rather be able to ignore the ISP's website and let them tell me when they're doing something.
2. Tech support is now only during business hours. With the reliability of the service being so poor, this is a terrible change of policy. They used to be 24x7.
3. Emails sent to support go unanswered. This didn't used to be the case. They were quite diligent about support mail. Now I'm convinced that mail hits the bit-bucket with a big clang.
4. They disconnected the toll free support phone number without announcement. For weeks, the phone would ring and ring and ring with no answer. World Skyline never informed anyone of this change. Now you get a message that this number has been disconnected.
I am no longer interested in their service because they have taken measures in recent months that leave no doubt as to how interested World Skyline actually is in providing good service via good support.
Once again, the service problems are definitely due to terrible quality of the upstream providers. However, World Skyline has compounded the problem for its subscribers by abandoning its support responsibility. It also really miffs me that I, an early adopter of their service in Chicago, have to put up with these degradations instead of seeing the improvements required for World Skyline to keep and get new customers.

The connection is great, and I like the email reminders of billing charges.
I tried to login, but my login didn't work. When I tried to contact support to find how to make it work, they were no help, so I'm submitting this without logging in. Also, the website isn't very helpful or well-organized. I haven't needed it much, so it hasn't mattered a lot, but it has made World Skyline an invisible partner in my Internet experience. But as long as the connection is good and fast, I guess that's all right.

I am Sam Khan. I have used World Skyline for four months.
I was told that due to my distance of 17862' from CO, I may get 256k speed. I was pleasantly surprised at getting 416k speed.
Installation was better than expected. The installer was in time. I have three existing phone lines. Installer could not use existing wires inside the house. He had to pull a new line for inside installation. He finished modem installtion witout a hitch. I was able to use the DSL services immediately.
Technical support both with World Skyline and DSL providers is above expectations. Support personnel are knowledgable and polite. There is hardly any wait time. This service is better than any hardware, software and phone company services I ever had.
DSL Modem has worked perfectly, only once I had to power down and repower the modem.
I have been a computer professional for the last 35 years. I have used Internet since 1985. I have my own Systems Intergration business. I know how the tech support departments work or do not work. World Skyline support is almost the best I have ever dealt with.
The company management is very responsive. I get calls from the CEO Richard Young from time to time enquiring about their quality of service.
Call me at 630-717-4124 if you want to talk to me about World Skyline.

Connection seems good 95% of the time. Tech support is good (but limited staff after 5 pm) overall good experience. Great for the money.

Hi, my name is Vince. I ordered Telocity service and chose Atlanta Skyline (now World Skyline) as my ISP. I'm about 4000 feet from my CO, so I got the top speed of 1M SDSL. Telocity service includes a static IP.
Telocity service is really strange because it seperates the actual DSL line from the ISP. The line is carried/connected to interchange DSL, with Ameritech running the actual physical DSL line.
What that boils down to is that if you have a problem with the DSL line ("the alarm box on the DSL line won't go off!"), then you call interchange DSL. If you have a problem with the ISP services (email, newsgroups, etc.) then you call World Skyline.
For interchange DSL, the tech support is really top shelf. Worst wait time I had was about 5 minutes, but it's an 800 number so I wasn't complaining. The guys know what they're talking about.
For atlanta skyline, there's a bit of a dichotomy with regards . The business day staff is on top of their game; they know what they're talking about and resolve issues effeciently. In comparison, the after hours staff is entirely clueless, serving as little more than advanced message takers. (And sometimes not even that; I've twice received the answer, "could you call back during the day?") On a bright note, I've never been put on hold at all when calling atlanta skyline's tech support, regardless of the time. (it's an 888 number, so no big deal if I was.)
As for speed, it's right up there. I've actually gotten measured throughput of roughly 920kBps when leeching, and roughly the same while sending. That's really close to 1M, when you consider the overhead involved in standard protocols such as FTP.
The Telocity DSL box is unlike anything I've seen. It's large; about eight inches wide, 5 inches deep, and 2.5 inches high. Connects to a USB port, parallel port, or ethernet. USB/parallel under 95/98 only, all other operating systems (NT, mac, linux) must use ethernet. It also has a USB pass-through port, but in the instructions for the box it notes that disconnecting USB devices cabled after the DSL box will cause the DSL box to renegotiate the connection, so the USB port might be lip-service only. (I use NT, so I haven't tried the USB or parallel ports.)
As for atlanta skyline's news server, it's good if your intention is to read news. If your intention is to scrape binaries or leech mp3s, don't kid yourself; you'll still need a newscene account.
Overall, I'd say that I'm fairly happy with the service, giving it a 4.5 out ot 5 overall. It's a LOT more reliable than even the best ISPs ever were on dial-up, it delivers close to the max potential of the line consistently, and the tech support is solid (if not super-stellar, at least in the "very good" range).

My only complaints with World Skyline are:
1)DHCP is reliable but I would prefer static 2)They don't have enough power as customers over Ameritech (the line provider) and Ameritech drags its feet horribly.
Otherwise, this company's service is fantastic. Even the CEO is willing to talk to you directly and take any problems in hand personally.
I settled for a 384/128 connection using DHCP and am pleased as can be with the performance. My confidence in the service is high enough that I am considering upgrading my subscription to the 768/384 option.

I have been using internet for the last 14 years. I have had 6 dial-up ISP accounts in the past.
When I signed up with ATLANTA SKYLINE/Telocity, I was not sure about their service for two reasons. First, I never heard about them. Second, the price was so low. I found out that I am 17,862 feet away from the CO. This further discouraged me as I expected a speed of 200K.
I was pleasantly surprised on several accounts. The installer came exactly at the hour promised. I have 5 phone lines. This was a difficult set up. The installer pulled a new line for me. I was installed and working in 45 minutes.
Tech Support was polite efficiency. I have two existing e-mail accounts that I wanted to keep. Tech Support had me recieving and sending e-mail without any problems through my Outlook 2000 set up.
I was surprised at the connection speed of 416K even though I am near the limit of 18000 feet from CO.
The modem has not gone down since installation.
I had some biling issues. I got a call from Richard Young the CEO of Atlanta Skyline to set up ACH billing. Richard Young is sincere about customer service.
I paid $20 for ISP and $17 for a phone line for a 42K max speed for my dial up service. Now for only $13 more I have a 416k connection that is always up. WHAT A DEAL!

The presales information was pretty good. The reps there could have been a little bit more informed, but for the most part seemed to know what they were talking about, so I went ahead and ordered the service. As for the install itself, there were a few little glitches such as showing up a couple of hours later than they had said, but that is to be expected I guess. That's why I only rated them a 3 which I considered about average. The connection's reliability? Well, I haven't lost service once yet, but it does seem to slow down during the lunch hour to mid day or so, which is ok I guess... pretty much to be expected from a 384k connection. I've really only needed to call their technical support once, which was a very pleasant experience... they gave me all the information I needed and I was set up in a matter of 15 to 20 minutes as for the computer settings. The mail, dns, news, etc. servers seem to be pretty reliable, but could definately use some upgrades... seem to run a little slow sometimes. The prices seem a little higher, but for the value that I've gotten from the service, I couldn't rate them any lower. It has been a pleasure dealing with Atlanta Skyline.
