Somerville,Middlesex,MA
Contract price not specified.
"None"
"These guys are spammers"
"Don't do business with them"
Pre Sales information:

These guys have been spamming HarvardNet users who are on DSLreports, trying to sell their DSL service. As I said in a phone message to their sales rep Kevin in Western MA, I will not do business with spammers. And thank you very much, I'm quite capable of researching my own DSL provider using DSLreports.

Lynn,Essex,MA
$39 per month
about 60 days
BellSouth
CLEC party: Verizon
"It's working tonight"
"No Tech Support, They are mindless"
"Don't get it if you don't have to."
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:
Connection reliability:
Tech Support:
Services:
Value for money:

Tech support had me power on and off my computer and said that that is what they consider extensive trouble shooting! At that point they said that they would have to file a touble ticket that would take a minimum of 72 hours. It was closer to 72 days to fix the problem... I am currently looking for a new provider.

Charlestown,Suffolk,MA
Business customer
$155 per month
"Easy install, in promised time frame. Inexpensive."
"Not convinced of performance"
"Cost effective, good service so far."
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:
Connection reliability:
Tech Support:
Value for money:

My company in Charlestown, MA ordered a 384/90 ADSL line for $155. Our IP address is static (we're running NAT). The connection is connected through the Somerville, MA C.O.

Our sales person was able to talk intelligently about the Telco part of the thing, but knew little about networking. After placing the order, there was total silence from Digital Broadband, but after around a month, I got a call and the install date was set. The installer was on time, and was here for half an hour. When he left, we were on-line. He knew how to set up the router (a Cisco 677), but didn't know how to set up the workstations. He told us not to use DHCP, but as soon as I had started setting them up, I started getting hardware address conflicts. Turning DHCP (server assigned addressing) fixed the problem. One would hope that the installer would know something simple like this, but he did not in this case.

The speed is disappointing compared with what I was hoping for. Streaming 64K RealAudio streams often gives a message that we don't have available bandwidth. I wonder about the peering Digital Broadband uses, and other aspects of their network, because I do get better performance from some sites than from others (sites that perform well and evenly with my cable modem at home). However, it's a major improvement over dialup, and the price is right.

    Cheers,

    Alan in Charlestown, MA
