    My Other Reviews·Comcast Formerly ..
I ordered this service for my mother who recently moved into a house across the street from me. She used it for about 4 months and decided that she did not use the internet enough to justify the cost. She cancelled the service and went back to her land based phone internet and free Juno service. I use Comcast Cable in my home which I think is a great service for me. I was impressed with the reliability and speed of mom's Qwest DSL service while she had it. If not for Comcast, I would most likely be using this service.

This was my review a year ago for my moms service. I have since helped my father-in-law setup his DSL recently. So far it has been a terrific upgrade from dialup for him. And, find I am not going over to his house as often to fix his internet connection. I repeat if not for Comcast, this is the service I would be using for my internet.

Since my last review of this Qwest service for my father-in-law's DSL service which I use quite often at his house, there have been no problems that he has reported, or that I have encountered while using this service. I have upgraded the services and connection reliability to 5 this review.

2009 - My father-in-law still has Qwest DSL service, and it has provided him with consistent and problem free service, which means I seldom have to go to his house for computer related problems.

I switched from a Qwest/MSN.com packaged deal after two months as I hated using MSN's canned proprietary email and web browser. I kept Qwest as provider of the DLS line and have been with DSL Northwest as my ISP for around eight months now. It's worked out very well. The down time is almost negligable. They schedule it in advance and give plenty of notice. Qwest originally had trouble giving me a dependable line connection but completely rewired my phone line from a new connection box at the house all the way to the telephone pole, then debugged the phone lines all the way to the CO. They did this while I was still with MSN. Everything has worked very smoothly since then. I was right at the extreme limit for the distance you can be from the CO and still receive DSL, so I'm quite happy with this service. I purchased the ActionTech modem from Qwest and subscribe to the 1.5 meg service for $36 a month. DSL Northwest provides a static IP. According to my browers I usually download at 150 to 200 megs. Upload seems to be about one-fifth those speeds. The switch-over from MSN occurred right on schedule with DSL Northwest providing the necessary browser and email settings by phone. The only thing I think they might improve would be to have telephone technical support available on Saturday and Sunday.

I've been with them only a month and no problems yet so maybe a little soon to write this review. I'll write again if I do. Let it be known that I switched from Qwest ISP due to slow (and difficult) to contact tech support and inability to resolve a simple problem. So far, the ease and promptness of contacting service (email or toll-free phone) has been excellent. There's actually a live person instead of having to press so many numbers to finally reach someone. I got a great deal for signing up. Prepaid for 12 months at $198, got a free t-shirt, $5 went to a charity of choice, 2 email boxes, a static address, a web page, prompt customer service, and a reliable dsl connection so far. The people there have knowledgable tech support. I'll write again if there are any problems.

Placed order on July 24, 2000. Was told it would take from 3 to 5 weeks to get installed and operational. Good e-mail communicaitons from them concerning updates with U.S. West. Finally on 22 of August U.S.West showed up to check and condition the line. They found problems with the line, however, they were able to fix it. Northpoint was to install the inside wiring the following day. Tech called in sick, and Northpoint callled at 9:00 a.m. to inform me that they could not make it that day, and reschedule to the following day. Northpoint showed up and completed the install and tested the conection on 24 August. Speeds have been right at expected. I am about 10,000 feet from CO. Would love to have better than 784, but cannot complain. System has been rock steady since the install. No outages at all. DSL Northwest provided information on how to install the computer with the static IP so that it would work with the connection. Other than that, I have not had a need to call tech support or even contact the ISP. Three days after the install was completed, My credit card was billed, just like thaey said. I wish that I could have found them about a year ago!!!!!!!! GREAT EXPERIENCE SO FAR!!! December 15, 2000. STILL ROCK STEADY!!!! NOT ONE OUTAGE SINCE INSTALL!! Still no need to contact tech support. I just love it!!!

Smooth ride with DSLNorthwest.net as my ISP. Qwest is my phone company and DSL provider. The good news is that installation wasn't bad. Hated having to put filters on all my phones. Phone quality on the phone that shares the jack with my pc is spotty.

Cable modem may be available in my area soon but see no reason to switch at this time. Like DSL Northwest and like my email address. Been with DSL Northwest for over a year. They sent me a tshirt when I signed up and another one recently for sticking with them I guess.

DSLNorthwest.net was recommended by dslreports. Real people answer the
phone. Emails are responded to within 24 hours or sooner usually. Some
weekend support hours. Website has the info you'll need to set up or check
various settings. A few times I've had email problems and contacted them
and they didn't find any evidence but would do something on their end anyway
and usually that would fix it.

I seem to get less spam, possibly because by email address does not end in
aol, msn, att or earthlink. Very happy with DSLNorthwest. Big enough to do
what you need, small enough to stay personal. Highly recommend. ISP is 18.95 month; pay $40 for ~540kb down and ~256kb up. Pretty consistent.

For the last several years I have been working on a computer science degree from WSU part time. As a project that sort of co-inside with that, I have been working on a couple of linux boxes for my own education. I had an P125 LRP box and an old K6-3 333 box as the server. At the time I had purchased a cable modem (with the idea that my bill savings would pay for it) and then signed up with ATT @home. I wasn't so fond of the fact that the cable connection was less than reliable but the speed was nice. Unfortunately after about 6 months ATT decided to raise prices for cable modem owners (only) and that irritated me enough to cancel the service. DSL was the only game left in town.

Coincidentally, around that same time, an MSN door-to-door sales man was soliciting and I decided to bite. I got the stuff, hooked it up, and after about 3 minutes I discovered it wasn't anything that I wanted or could use.

Out of luck so far and out of an internet connection, I hit the yellow pages and the internet though my in-laws computer. After calling around a bit, it was clear to me that DSL Northwest was really the only company that I could find capable of offering me what I wanted for a reasonable price. The second time I called them to sign on I made sure they knew exactly what I wanted to do with my service with regards to my linux boxes. The tech that I talked to understood exactly what I was doing and made sure that I knew everything I needed to know about integrating their service into my system. I couldn't imagine a better sales/tech on the other end of the phone. I was very concerned that I wouldn't understand enough and the tech wouldn't know what I was talking about. On the contrary he helped me in every regard of installation, and on top of that, he let me know exactly what kind of architecture they were using so that I would know what kind of hardware I might want to buy in the future.

The installation was flawless, my service has been uninterrupted, and I couldn't be happier with my system! (Well, it could always be a little faster ) Within a couple of days I got a follow up call to make sure all was well with my service. The customer service is unchallenged in any business I have ever dealt with! I feel like DSL Northwest is genuinely concerned with my business and wants to make sure I'm happy. This has been a breath of fresh air in a business word that is becoming more and more impersonal by the day. Last Christmas I was sent a nice Christmas card that was personally signed by all the employees and then I was just recently sent a DSL NW company shirt as a "thank you". I am more than satisfied with their service and look forward to years of business with DSL Northwest. I would (and have) recommended them to anyone, personal or professional, who is looking for any kind of broadband connection.

    My Other Reviews·Comcast Formerly ..
I am another refugee from the qwest - msn switch over. I was quite satisfied with qwest over the 18 months I was with them. Their decision to dump their residential customers, however, came as a big disappointment. I couldn't stomach the thought of switching to msn, so I decided to go with a local isp. There were several good choices, but I settled on dslnorthwest, and I have not been disappointed. Since qwest was doing routing and dslnorthwest does bridging, it was necessary to purchase a "dsl/cable" router in order to connect our 5e systems to the internet. I have found that my dslnorthwest experience to be a little bit slower than qwest, but I haven't determined the exact cause, it could be the added dsl router. I would prefer routing w/dhcp as opposed to bridging w/static ip, but it seems that most local providers are offering bridging - I can live with that. The price is about the same as it was with qwest, but I get one less e-mail address. I could opt for family package for an extra $10 a month and get 4 more e-mail addresses, but haven't chosen to so far. I have only been with dslnorthwest for 35 days, but so far, they have proven to be an excellent choice and a good value for the money!

    UPDATE:

I have been with dslnw for about 10 months now. They are OK, but my experience with them has been less then stellar. A few months after signing up with them, I noticed that my speed began to decrease. At first I thought it was something I was doing, but after numerous attempts on my part to resolve the issue, I noticed the problem was worsening. In August, when I finally got to the point of frustration, I e-mailed Tech Support to let them know that I would be switching ISPs and sited the slow network connection as my main reason. They responded by admitting (in not so many words) that they'd oversold their bandwidth, and promised that the problem would be resolved. They also offered me a free month service which I accepted. To their credit, about 30 days ago or so, I noticed that my connection speed was much improved. While my current speed is not as good as in the old days with qwest.net, it is within an acceptable range. One further note, we did have a dns issue with a particular site. My daughter was unable to access the one site at which she spends most of her time. Their response: "We recieved a blank zone record for that site. Not much we can do until we receive a new zone record." However, nobody else seemed to be having a problem. Since I am running my own dns server here at home, I decided to point it to our dns server to the dns server where I work, and that did the trick. So basically I had to resolve my own problem . . . no pun intended.

All that nothwithstanding, after 10 months, I must say that my overall experience with dsl northwest has been good.

Great connection. I only had two issues with connections. First was Qwest's problem for a few hours. Second was my issue -NIC conflict with internal Intel 2100 Pro modem. So DSL Northwest has been great. DSL Northwest and DSL-Only are owned by same company. Contract is month to month @ $18/mo. plus the price of DSL Phone line from Qwest. I wanted a no-BS ISP and DSLNW has been that. Simple services, but reliable. One thing I cant figure out about those other ISP's is how they charge $50 bucks over the Phone Co.
