    Based on higher score at this web site, I was highly encoraged to sign up at DSL Extreme. I asked for pre-qualification (not "order") at their web, and they returned to me two business days later with their Service Agreement and an order form. (BTW, today 2/01/2001, they revised the agreement and withdraw "Free" Modem offer.)

    When I reviewed them, I got surprised at a couple of points and sent e-mail inquries. So far, they did not respond to me for the past 48 hours. In addition, I gave a call to their 800#, but only little explanation was given, and my concern has not been resolved.

    1. Disclose of SSN, Copy of Driver's license

    They demanded to write SS# on the order form, and to send them a photocopy of Driver's license. Payment by credit cards are quite popular, and I wonder why consumer have to disclose these important information to take $40 or $80 service.

    They returned to me via e-mail, and said no SS# is necessary for my order. See my new note below.

    2. "Free" Modem

    Until yesterday they had said "Free DSL Modem" with 12 month contract. That's fine. But their Service Agreement (Para. 8) requested to return "all" hardware (unless we buy) upon termination of the contract or expiration of the service period. It meant we have to return to this company a DSL modem, in-line filters, cables, etc. in years. Be careful for wording "Free". In this case, it meant free "rental". I checked "Free Modem" on Verison advertisement, and they said they "give".

    They did not answer for the question, and told me the offer just ended (The offer had been actually valid for 24 hours for me),

    At first I had gotten very good impression, then I unfortunately was disappointed with this company.

    Ordered my service at the end of November, promptly received an e-mail
    w/ excellent step by step instructions and a live date of December 19th.
    I received my DSL modem after about 1 week and was up and running on
    the 19th. Total time from call to live was about 3 weeks, which was far
    better than I expected. On my live date I had a little trouble
    configuring Outlook Express for the multiple e-mail accounts that I
    signed up for so I called tech support and got a representative
    immediately. Erwin was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and had me
    up and going in about 15 minutes. I love the fact that my incoming
    e-mail goes to a hotmail account first so that I can check them from
    work and then when I check them at home they come into Outlook as soon
    as I launch it. I also like the fact that I can use Internet Explorer
    and Outlook, there was no special browser or software to download. I
    have had zero problems and I love the service.

    I have been involved in DSL offerings from Earthlink, Flashcom, and now DSLExtreme. DSLExtreme is the best service by FAR than any other service I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

    The staff is direct, knowledgeable, and efficient, and it is a pleasure to work with them.

    The connection is rock solid, and the internet connection is like being on the backbone of the world.

    I highly recommend this service.

    well its been a little over a month and the dsl line still hasnt been installed. my installation date was postponed because of "lack of hardware in the central office". which they told me it will be another 2 weeks before i get my dsl up and running. however, there is no guaratee and this situation can last longer than expect.....

    what i dont understand is.. first verizon said their modem supply is short. so i waited extra 2 weeks to get my modem. (thanx to my isp for harassing verizon for me). second, its not like the 4 weeks wait isnt long enough, they have to add another 2 weeks so i can suffer with slow internet connection. why dont they just try to keep some hardware and some modem in stock and maybe this wont happen.

    verizon said the same thing "out of hardware" when they installed my phone line.. now its the exact same thing happening again for my DSL line. phone companies just dont know how to run their business.....

    Ok, i'm not going to bore you with the whole ordering process. Basically, I ordered it, 3 1/2 weeks later i got it, no hassles, no delay. I do a lot of online gaming so that static ip address really helps a lot. They were the only company out there that ONLY offer static ip's when I was shopping around. I haven't had a problem with these guys yet, but when it does come (judging by all the other reviews) I can trust them to resolve it.

    I really have nothing bad to say about Sprint, I placed the order and they told me they need 10 days in advance before the Tech can install it. I received modem 3 days after order, they sent USB because I asked but then I read that the Efficient Networks USB 4060 was not that reliable in installation, so the tech gave me an ISA(Only open slot in PC). When the tech came everything was good, it only took him 1 hour(He split my line inside and not outsite, because he couldnt find the direct wires from my box to my phone line.) We tested it out and i was at first going 640/90 but then he downloaded the Windows Registry patch and i was at first going 2200/300 then it went down to my speed 1511/200. Althought last night my speed was 1264/180. I am thinking of upgrading to Windows ME since it handles high speed better. If anyone has Windows ME and they noticed a improvement in speed please let me know.

    I ordered DSL from DSLextreme and sent in payment. I received a call from them as soon as they received my check with an installation date. I was alittle worried since so many have stated problems with the Telco not sending the equipment. The Tech Guys at DSL Extreme assured me that the equipment would be at my home on time and working by my activation date. Long story short, I received my modem two days before the given activation date. I installed the modem and I found that Verizon had already activated me and I was able to surf the web. These people are totally great, if you have a problem they'll fix it on the spot and don't hand you off to the endless cycle of helpdesk personnel. I highly recommend DSL Extreme to anyone interested in getting DSL Service.

    I'm in the Verizon area and signed up for the Bronze Plus package with DSLExtreme. My self-install went smooth and, even though I'm not too computer savy, they were able to walk me thru step-by-step. I especially like the fact that you get to speak with an actual person, and don't get stuck in "voice mail hell". So far I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with them, but will definitely update this if it changes
