Switched from AT&T 3Mb DSL to DSL Extreme 6Mb. Twice the speed for half the price (12mo. contract), can't beat it! Cutover was three days before my expected date, which caught me off guard, but that's goodness, right?

Pre-sale support from Nick in the forum/IM's answering some questions was very helpful. Online order process was straight-forward and painless.

Overall experience so far has been great. We'll see how it pans out over the next 12 months.

Re: question

Neither. I had existing DSL service from AT&T, which dropped when they cut me over. All I had to do is log back in with my existing modem (Speedstream 4100) using my DSL Extreme username/pw.

I ordered the trueSTREAM Elite package on November 7th and was told that I would get an installation date in four days. Instead, I got an email that said we haven't forgotten about you. I called to inquire again on Friday, November 13th and was told that I would get an installation date by the end of the day. I never got that confirmation and when I called the customer service I was told that the billing department would have all that information but they were closed for the weekend until Monday. Why all the runaround? As far as I am concerned, I am only leasing a wireless gateway and shouldn't require any major installation. How long should I wait for internet access?

DSL Extreme

The trueSTREAM product DOES require a local installation (you're not just leasing a wireless gateway). A new line needs to be connected from the street to your phone box (NID), and a field tech needs to go out to your location and connect that line from the NID to a jack inside your home (either cross-connecting to use your existing unused inside wiring, or running a new, dedicated jack if the existing inside wiring is already being used by a telephone or other service), as well as configuring the gateway and making sure it is working properly. It's not like DSL (where you just use the existing telephone lines, no installation needed).

As such, we need to coordinate and schedule the installation work and field tech dispatch. In many cases, within 4 business days we can determine what your installation date will be (note that is 4 business days; since Nov 7 is a Saturday, that means we were looking at Thurs Nov 12 for expected update). In this case, determining your installation date is taking longer than 4 business days (hence why we sent you the email advising that we're still working on it). I'm sorry for the delay; as soon as we determine your installation date we'll let you know.

Just signed up for my 4th great year!!

__________________________________________________________

I have been with DSL Extreme going into my third year.

I have no complaints really, occasional glitches etc. but that is normal.

A great deal and much better than SBC ....I get 5 megs. consistently down and 634 up also. With that great upload speed my VOIP line works so well.

What do I have to complain about?

SBC (AT&T now) was ok when I started with them but after a while, the service started to deteriorate.
I began to be on first name basis with ASI techs they were here so much.

Then they tried to pull some shenanigans when I didn't renew my contract.

Tried and tried to talk me into signing back up.
I just couldn't put up with them any longer..

As far as DSL X:
I see no drawbacks to this ISP in anyway...They are polite, and this board is extremely helpful...
The DSL Reports forum for DLSX is extremely useful the the techs are quick to get to you.

George the GM is on the board all day long to assist.

I'd get it!!!

DSL Extreme's dishonesty

I have been a DSL Extreme customer for about 5 years. The service is adequate, but the company is rather unscrupulous. I recently found out that in the period of time I have been using them, they have significantly lowered their rates. That's a good thing. The only trouble is that they never informed me. When I called them about it, they immediately gave me the new rate, but insisted that it was okay to overcharge me before then because I did not know I was being overcharged. They therefore refused any refund. They did admit that they would have notified me if their rates had gone up! Find a provider that is less sneaky.

when you signed up for the service you agreed to pay the monthly payment. its your responsibility to keep up with price decreases/lower monthly deals. ive never seen a business go out of their way to make less money. same thing happened to me, but i have no negative opinion about it.

in general, lower prices are to attract new customers (i.e. when a certain plan is a low price but only for the first x amount of months). by you already being a customer means they did their job and you justified the price for the service at the time. be happy that they lower their prices and allow current subscribers to downgrade, ive seen isps that make you sign up all over again to do that.

I not at all happy that I was not informed of the lower rates, but somehow the knowledge that the same thing happened to others makes it sting a little less. Otherwise I am looking forward to a faster connection, while paying roughly half what I have been paying for dsl.

I think I am paying four or five bucks more a month for the same plan that I did on my first year.

If you pay for the whole year upfront you do get a better deal also.

DSL Extereme got the best of me.. I payed a year in advance because I am out of town a lot and when in town need the internet, now.
I was turned off after the year with no notice,I called service to get back on line and was told that I owed two months service, because of the dependability needed I switched to cable.
Six months later I received a bill for one hundred seventy seven dollars,I called and complained to a superviser and she told me that if they didn't receive their payment they would ruin my credit.
I payed but will stear clear of this company. I hope that this will help others that may be thinking of DSL Extreme.BEWARE...

yea service has been fine, dsl connection & tech support wise, but service from the dsl extreme biz office is a bit murky & confusing, especially those invoices.

i've been with them for 7 years but the simple request to renew for another entire year & pay for it in advance, I couldn't get a price quote from them this time around.

So, I'm giving up and will give att a try. gosh, att they want the biz...they're quite eager to switch me over. hey they own the line anyway, so I'll give em a try & not have to deal with dsl's invoices.

not sure where george is, he is/was like the most helpful manager at dsl.

Don't blame DSL Extreme if you don't manage your A/C

If you dont bother to keep tabs on your account (like finding out when your contract is up for renewal), do not place the blame on DSL Extreme for charging you the same. Do you think AT&T or Verizon would automatically give your the lower pricing? I don't think so. All you had to do was login to your account and check your invoice history to see when your 1 year contact was up. Simply select a new contract to get the best deal.

That said, the person who stated that DSL Extreme turned their service off after the 1 year pre-payment deal does have a legit gribe. Did DSL Extreme send an email to your address on file before the expiration? If so, oh well, you did not act. If not, DSL Extreme needs to remey that situation with better communication.

I have been a customer for about 4 years and am very happy with the connection, technical support, service, and price.

So far so good

I've been with DSLextreme for quite a while, probably since around 2000 (I think they started up in 1999). So far not too many problems (knock wood). A couple outages, but that's going to happen with any ADSL, cable, T1, OC1, satellite data, etc. service (seen it happen and have had to deal with it, even $20,000/month SONET data service can get stuck). Other than that the data moves, DSLextreme sends me a bill, I pay it, they don't bug me and I don't bug them. That reliability plus the fact the two (I think) times I had to call about a problem I didn't have to speak to someone in another country reading off a script asking if my monitor was plugged in and I got to speak directly to an actual network engineer who had r/w enable on the routers.

I think that method of dealing with contracts is pretty common. Similar strategies with mobile phones, certificates of deposit, satellite radio, etc. You sign up for a contract and when that contract ends depending on what the contract said if you don't contact them they either auto-renew a contract or switch to month-to-month. If the contracts ends and they aren't contacted or paid and can't contact you, then the service is disconnected, etc. I guess it would be nice if DSLextreme had one of those auto-dialer things like XM Radio has that calls you every day when the contract is up to bug remind you to call them.

I agree that type of arrangement can be a hassle sometimes but I think that's the just the way most businesses operate these days. When a contract is up it's best to contact which ever company even if you just want to cancel (and that might mean a chat with "customer retention" at some companies) or you might be dinged one way or another.

EDIT: Clarified who the "they" I was talking about, etc. is to minimize the confusion.

Just Added Fusion

I just signed up for Fusion, it's working excellently. I more than doubled my d/l speed and increased my u/l speed too.
I previously was running at about 5mpbs down, now I'm up close to 12 down and running smoothly.
What was messing with my line was the ATA supplied to me by my VoIP company which is now history. It was the major player in why my connection was giving me so much trouble. With it gone, all is fine.
Thanks dslx_nick for all the help.

It's still just rebranded Uverse
It's just what the doctor ordered.

I had AT&T Uverse and had so may issues with them I cancelled and ordered DSLExtreme. Not knowing that DSLX was reselling AT&T Uverse I was a little taken back. Well, low and behold I had a couple of issues. The difference?

DSLExtreme was able to troubleshoot the issues and actually get me a Uverse product that worked when AT&T couldn't.

Go figure - I'd pay extra for this but it's slightly less expensive than AT&T.

Truestream package ordered- originally wanted 18/1.5 but my line noise margin was a bit marginal with that profile, but much better with the 12/1 profile. So I changed my order to the 12/1 package. Very happy to get consistent 15 Mbps speed tests so far.
Overall, the order & install process went very smoothly; with plenty of progress emails from DSLExtreme to keep me informed as we went along. Outstanding customer relations and communication! It is very much appreciated.
Modem- Pace 5031NV

Here is a summary of the install process I experienced:

June 23, 2015 DSLExtreme order submitted via DSLExtreme web page at 2:10 pm ET.
Confirmation of order email received at 2:18 pm ET.

June 26, 2015 Received an email from DSLExtreme stating, "we haven't forgotten about you".. and that I would
receive an email with a scheduled installation date, soon.

June 29, 2015 Received email from DSLExtreme stating," Your order is being processed. AT&T is provisioning
the lines in your neighborhood and is preparing to provide service to your home. In a few days you will receive a
Service Installation Date email from us with further instructions. To follow your Order status visit
www.dslextreme.com/orderstatus."

June 30, 2015 Received email from DSLExtreme stating," Your installation has been scheduled. Your installation is
scheduled for: Tuesday, July 7th between 1:00PM and 3:00PM" The email provided
instructions concerning what to expect, also.

July 6, 2015 Received an email from DSLExtreme stating, " Your Install date is approaching. We are one step
closer to activating your TrueSTREAM service. Your installation is scheduled for: Tuesday, July 7th
between 1:00PM and 3:00PM".

July 7, 2015. Installation day. My install window was between 1-3 pm ET. Received a phone call at 2:37 pm ET from DSLExtreme
stating that my installer was 5 minutes away. The AT&T technician arrived at 2:42 pm ET. The install went
smoothly. I ordered 18 Mbps, and the line to the house tested at more than that but the noise margin
was barely acceptable. All of this was explained to me by my installer. He consulted with his supervisor
and the two of them recommended lowering my provisioning to 12 Mbps. DSLExtreme was informed of this
by the technician. DSLExtreme called me within minutes and asked me about lowering my order to 12 Mbps.
I agreed and within minutes the adjustment was complete. This resulted in me getting a much improved noise
margin with 12 Mbps provisioning. So far the line speed tests are a steady 15.3 Mbps average and the noise margin
is 6 db better than the noise margin at 23 Mbps (with the 18 Mbps provisioning). The installer ran a new CAT 5e cable straight
from the NID to my office and installed a wall jack.

Monitoring and testing for the first 24 hours after the install shows consistent speeds and no loss of signal. So far, so good.

UPDATE: 7-14-2015. It's been one week since the install. Steady speed tests and not a single dropout or problem all week.

UPDATE: 7-27-2015. Smooth sailing. No outages or problems. Still consistent 15.3 Mbps download speed.

UPDATE: 8-16-2015. Smooth sailing. Still no problems or outages. Latest speed test:

I have been using DSL Extreme for about 10 months now and the service was awesome, not a single drop out, everything was working very well.

I moved state recently and I requested a move directly on their website. That's when everythi333ng started to go sideways.
I had been told by customer support that move requests were taken care of within 10 days. I had been waiting for 12 days and nothing had happened.
I call customer service for the first time, I am told that a technician has to come to my place but they can't tell me when yet. They tell me that they would call me back the SAME day to inform me of the date, I never received the call.
I call customer service for the next day (second time), they still can't tell me when the technician would come yet. Again, they tell me that they would call me back the SAME day, I never received the call.
I call customer service for the third time, they tell me that something is wrong and that I am gonna have to wait until next monday (today is Wednesday) to hear back from then. If this ever happens, I am still gonna have to wait some more time for the technician.

It looks like I am not gonna have internet any time soon, and I desperately need it for work.
Add the fact that I had to wait at least 25 minutes every time I called customer service, I lost 1h30 of my life, right there.

Well done DSL extreme, you managed to turn a very happy customer into a disappointed on in a matter of days.
If this situation isn't resolved soon, I'll definitely consider changing ISP when my contract is over.

Took about 8 days and then line went down for about 2 hours then back up with a 7mb sync rate.

I used Verizon old DSL router (westell) 5100. Changed my login info in router and I was up..

We always had congestion issue with (Verizon) at peak hours 4pm-11pm every day like clock work.
So when we got (DSL EXTREME) We were HAPPY to see it never slowed even at peak hours or holidays!!!! yay. we didn't lose sync at all..

So what was funny is they use the same CO as Verizon.. And Verizon never could fix issue ,But DSL EXTREME did...No need to say more

DSL EXTREME Is faster... So I don mind paying extra cost..

I ordered the 45/6 Mbit trueSTREAM service after Comcast finally overstepped the bounds of what I was willing to put up with. It was refreshing seeing how responsive the support for DSL EXTREME was here in the BBR forums.

My install process went very smoothly. I prefer to do my own wiring, so had already run a new cat5 line to the NID. The installer was friendly, and happy to chat about various technical aspects of the service. After two modems failed to sync, the tech threw an attenuator on the line and everything came up swimmingly. The VRAD is on my next door neighbor's lawn, and it seems the signal strength was managing to swamp the devices.

I was able to purchase the on-premise equipment, a NVG589 gateway.

My connection has decent latency numbers, and seems to be slightly overprovisioned for download. I get repeatable 50Mbit download speeds.

The only drawbacks to the service are 1) there is no true bridge mode for the NVG589 gateway, leaving you stuck with a NAT session count limit, and 2) I am not able to make use of anything approaching the attainable sync rate of my line. Neither DSL EXTREME or AT&T seems to want to sell me more than 45mbit service right now, even though my gateway displays possible line sync rates of ~120Mbits downstream.

Overall, I expect I'll continue to be very happy with my service.

Re: NAT Session Limit

My NVG589 reports there are 2560 "sessions available". I have not reached this limit, and don't think it will be an issue with my usecase, as I don't plan on doing any heavy peer-to-peer sharing and there are a limited number of devices in the house.

My understanding is that when the session limits are reached, no new sessions will be able to be started until old ones start to close due to natural timeouts. See: »Re: U-Verse Business NVG585 NAT limit

Have Dsl Extreme, MaxPlus, the 18 Mbps/1.5 service, since March 26. The initial connection date appointment was not kept: I was advised that AT&T did not schedule it as requested, but the 2nd date was met exactly both day and time. Installation by AT&T tech was very nicely done -- he put in a new NID, ran a new home run wire to the jack, very neat work. However, he initially connected a used and defective gateway. He said he had no others in his van, and had to go to the central office to get one. Thankfully they had one ( a new one this time) and once he connected it, the service worked perfectly. It's an Arris NVG510. The service has worked flawlessly ever since. Never gone down, never have had to reboot the gateway. No problems at all. My only disappointment is that I cannot obtain the top speed of the tier: 18 down/1.5 up. I am getting consistently about 16.9Mbps down and 1 or less up. Regardless, I am highly impressed with the tech support of DSL Extreme. I did pose a question here in the forum, and received an immediate response from the support person (your site says do not mention names, so I won't); he followed up with me several times, and provided all of the information he could. Such service is rare indeed, these days, and I consider it a valuable part of my service. I would recommend DSL Extreme to anyone. AAAA+++++
