"Reliable connection, cheap price."
"Worst pre-sales experience I've ever had."
"You get what you pay for."
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:
Connection reliability:
Tech Support:
Services:
Value for money:

    Speed: 512k/512k MVL "SDSL"
    Modem: ParaDyne MVL DSL
    Static IP
$195 up front install/modem cost, no contract

First off, this is *not* SDSL. Yes, it is symmetrical. Yes, it is DSL. But it is not CAP or DMT technology. Nauticom uses a rather
proprietary technology from a company called ParaDyne. It pretty much works the same, but they add bells and whistles and can
deploy it at distances up to 27,000ft.

Pre-Sales: If you call Nauticom's DSL department, expect to get voicemail. Messages were returned in about a week, if they were returned at all. If you send them an email, expect to wait a week for a response. Imaging asking questions and attempting to bounce emails back and forth. Ugghh.. Reps were average at best, and I had to ask the general secretary to speak to a supervisor before I could talk to a human.

Install Coordination: To be fair, install was provided by Penn Telecom, a Nauticom partner. On the first scheduled install date (2 months after placing order) Penn Telecom write me an email and told me that I was not home. The fact was, that they were unable to locate my address. Their lies did not go over well with me.

Connection Reliability: Solid connection. No sync loss as of yet. 24/7.

Tech Support: Kind, helpful, quick acting (via phone call). Emails took 3 days to return.

Mail, DNS, News: Mail fast & reliable. DNS sometimes slow. News (havent used yet).

Value for Money: You get what you pay for. It aint great, but its cheap. Once you are up & running everything should be OK.

    ---------------------------

    Performance:
    Actual throughput - 440k/440k
    Gateway ping - 20ms
    Routing - decent - Verio & Savvis (90% Verio)
Increase in latency & packet loss & decrease in throughput every afternoon around 3:30-5:30. Apparently they deal primarily with businesses and these companies have emplyees that like to surf the web before going home.
