I have been hooked up to DSLEXPRESS for a few weeks now. The speed is pretty close to what was advertised . The instalation kit that cost 100 dollars came with only one phone filter. I don't know many houses with only one phone. I used a home rune house filter anyway. The service was up and running quite quickly. It has seemed pretty stabile. I like the ethernet modem. Its rock solid. The only gripe I have with the company is the static ip they gave me was on SPEWS database for spam abuse. »spews.org I cant use my dns service anymore because I am blacklisted. I think people should know about this detail before signing up. Dslexpress's reply to this was as follows: We can change your email address if you would like, but SPEW has 1/2 the IP address blacklist in the world blacklisted. Our provider is trying to get the Class C removed from the list, since we are not Giant Technologies and we don't have any relations to that company.
EDIT
It looks like DSLEXPRESS has gotten my ip off the spews list.
EDIT
Recently was down for several weeks. Had to cancell my account till problem could be fixed with my line. When I tried to have them reconnect my service , they tried to make me pay activation and sign a new contract that I feel no one would want to fill out. It has one time fees listed
Dissconect/Cancellation/Move Fee $250.00 Lost or non Returned Modem Router $149.00 Missed Appointment $99.00 Reactivation Fee $150.00
They just took advantage of a bad misfortune of my telco and tried to profit from it

After my Directv internet went down & turned to Cybertronic DSL. I ordered the service in the first week of February. They told me it would take 2 weeks to get service. 4 weeks later I still had not heard from them so I called. After listening to Frank Sinatra for 30 mins I got a tech rep on the line who told me my ordered had been cancelled.
They apparantly had cancelled my order without even notifying me. After inquiring as to why they did, they said it was because I had fiber on my line. Considering I just had DTV service, I didn't understand why they would not be able to service me but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I then called my friend at Bellsouth Engineering here in Miami to check my line out. He researched it and told me that I had absolutely no fiber on my line.
I called back Cybertronic and they reopened my order. Two weeks later, still no word from them. I called back and they gave me the same old story: fiber on the line, cancelled order. My friend at Bellsouth told me that some internet companies don't provide DSL if you go through a remote terminal because they have to pay more and he thinks that's why they don't want to service me.
Well I looked around and decided to give DSL express a try.
Monday 24th, 11:30am: Ordered DSL service from DSL express. They said I would probably have service by Thursday 7:00pm (Yeah Right)
Tuesday 25th, 5:00pm: Got home from work, saw the DSL modem in the mail and decided to plug it in just for the heck of it. I got a sync and lo and behold I had DSL service!!
Needless to say I'm very happy with the service. They practically had me up & running in 24hrs. Speed is good: 1200down, 215 up. The only complaint is the $99 activation fee. $59.00 is not too bad considering you get a static IP.

Month and a Half Update:
Still looks good....they upgraded their EMAIL systems. I've got a network setup at home, and everyone surfs just fine. I liked their service so much, I referred my ex-employer to them, and they switched from Bellsouth to DSL Express as well ( I think he even switched his own home service to them ).
They're still working on a News Server solution, though.
One Month Update:
Well, so far so good. After a bump in the road with the email server, it seems that things are running smoother. After speaking with someone in tech support, they're close to having a new NEWS server ( for you newsgroup junkies ). Speed remains up there. Connection is stable. So far so good. It's nice not having a "contract" looming over my head.
One Week Update:
Ok, so the service is pretty good, but it seems the email servers were having a problem. I sent an email to suppose ( which was responded to ), but lo and behold, yesterday I get two emails confirming that some maintenance was being performed and what the estimated down times would be. They also sent an email when the maintenance was completed, NOW THAT, I like. So what's my only beef so far ? Well, they don't have a news server. It would be nice. Other than that, it's running pretty well. If I don't hear a complaint from my gf then obviously the connection is running well. Oh, having used their webmail now for the past few days, I can safely say that OpenWebMail is a slick little interface. Though it would be easier to access if they didn't bury access to it from the main homepage ( yes, It's bookmarked now ).
Next update: Wireless network. Stay tuned.
Original Post:
I waited, and I waited, and I waited ( seems like I wasn't alone from the statistics of folks who haven't switched over from DirecTV yet ). I called ISP after ISP.
Cyberonic had the cheapest service ( but they said I was too far from the CO to get 1.5/768..yeah, right. )
RapidSys was next in line, but they didn't have lines in SoFla. And wouldn't, until mid-Feb ( I couldn't wait that long ).
Then there was Snappy ( who had very nice people answering the phone ), but there's that silly activation charge again ( Thank you Bellsouth ! ).
DSLi ( No contracts please...not when the disconnect is $150, and you're also charging for activation ).
Then I read about DSL Express. I didn't seem like they were that big a prescence, they don't even have a Forum on DSLREPORTS like Snappy or some of the other carriers, but they guy in Tech support seemed to know what he was talking about ( he gave me enough info to set up the Efficient 5660 I bought on Ebay for $30 ! )How's about POSTING some of that info, or a step-by-step guide on the website guys. Well, what can I say...I took a chance. You know what ?!
I'm VERY HAPPY I did. The service switched from DirecTV overnight, I set up DNS on my machine. Set up the DHCP server on the modem/router, and the gateway/IP addresses. Set it up to RB1483...rebooted the Modem....and VOILA ! Of course, I uninstalled the DirecTV software off my machine first ( VERY IMPORTANT guys. )
So we'll see how it goes, but for being 2.8 miles from the CO...I'm getting better rates than 75% of the folks in my ZIP.
Now to save the bucks up for that wireless network.....s

I was previously a Direct TV DSL customer that enjoyed their service for more than two years. Service was at two locations.
Upon hearing that they were going out of business, I switch to Earthlink to maintain up time. DTVDSL to Earthlink switch happened on 12.21.02 and I had been down since then. Both Earthlink and Covad (Earthlink resells Covad service) tried to get my DSL service activated for close to 2 months! Neither was successful due to Covad's inability to use BellSouth's remote terminals.
DSL Express had me switched, up and running in less than 48 hours! After dealing with support staffs that passed the buck by saying "our systems need to update for changes, wait 24 hours" every single day since the switch on the 21st of December, it was a relief to have DSL Express help me through the migration to their service.
DSL Express order date - 2.10.03 (late afternoon (order actually went in on 2.11.03am) Service finally back up on 2.12.03 (by 2:30pm) - 1.5/256 - 3 static ip's ($5 extra per ip per mth not including the static ip that comes with the service!)
Thank god for DSL Express!

Ordered: 1.5/256 received advertised speed (within reason) NOTE THAT THIS COMPANY CAN HANDLE SUPRA TELECOM LINES Which is one of the main reasons why I went with them.
In ALL of my communication with the company, I only spoke with two people everytime I called, or emailed. The owner, Jay or Kim, which is apparently the main tech support person. I was impressed that they know me on a first name basis. When I called, they didn't ask for any order number or complex verification number, I simply said "Hey Kim its Corey." and she knew everything... impressive!
Of course it kinda hurt to pay $10 more a month for the same service (ex dtv customer) BUT I consider it well worth is considering the tech support...etc
Originally they said they could have me up in 3 days, I told them to delay that because I wasnt going to have the equipment by then. When they sent the order in initally, it was rejected (argh!) They said Bellsouth already had an order going on for my line. I insisted they were incorrect, but I later realized that I told dtv to release my line, and that was the order Bellsouth was processing. I informed dsl express of this and they said they would process the order as soon as it cleared with bellsouth. They handled the situation fairly well. A few days later, I got an email from Jay (the owner) saying that I should be up by the 30th. Well, things fell through and bellsouth didn't have the circuit ready.
BAD So I spoke with Kim around noon on the 30th and she called Bellsouth she said she'd call me back in a half hour. I never received a call back! Argh so I called 4:15 she said "Oh I was just calling you." Now it could be a coincedence, but thats not likely so that pissed me off. However she said that Bellsouth promised to have it up by 5pm that day. I thanked her and said goodbye. 5:30- STILL NOT UP I go to call Kim and THEY ARE CLOSED- all paperwork says theyre open till 6:30.
So I left a few voicemails for her and got a call back around 9:30 the following morning- she had me install a swapper on the modem and said the bellsouth has finished the circuit.
I was up! Completed: 12/31/02
So far, not so bad.
I'll post my updates Feel free to respond
-C

I have been a very satisfied Telocity/DirecTV subscriber for over two years now and was quite disappointed when they notified me that they were closing their doors. I did not expect to find another ISP who offered all that they did with as much professionalism and reliability. Through reviews on this board, I decided to try DSL Express based on the fact that they were one of the only ones who offered a static IP address.
I ordered DSLX service on Tuesday 1/7/2003 and I was told that if I would have to provide my own modem or purchase and Alcatel 1000 from them. Since I had given away my Alcatel box 2 years earlier after swearing off BellSouth for life (run away from BS ... FAST), I didn't have one to use (Telocity modems work only on Telocity's network). Alcatel 1000 modems can be had on eBay for very little money, but since I was expecting a quick transition, I ordered the modem from DSLX for $50 ... very reasonable.
Modem arrived along with network instructions on Friday 1/10 as stated. Woke up Saturday 1/11 to find that my DirecTV service was no longer working so I swapped out the modem with my new one, first having removed the swapper that came plugged into the modem since my DSL comes in on a separate dedicated pair from the bulding demarc. No sync. I then recalled something about the Alcatel boxes using a different pair than other modems so I reconnected the swapper and had sync within 20sec.
Voila, back in business and everything works as advertised. This is without a doubt the most painless DSL install I have ever done. This is how DSL should be. Speeds tests report 1.2Mb download speeds which is basically the same as DirecTV and BellSouth, no complaints there. DNS resolution has been quick and reliable so far. There was no software to install.
OK now the bad parts. Everything has been so great that I have to really reach to find any. DSL Express is a small company and I HOPE they don't go the way of Telocity/DirecTV. They were easy to work with and I hope this doesn't get munged up by their growth into a larger company.
Next, I am an experienced networking tech, so all this stuff makes sense to me. I'm pretty confident that the average user would find that there aren't enough instructions to do a self install. For the advanced user, it was PERFECT. Here's your modem, and a 1-sheet overview of IP, mask, gateway & DNS servers. Done, have a nice day. I love it. So, in short, newbie users should get the help of a techy for the install.
In conclusion, I'm in DSL heaven. All you techies out there looking for a good ISP with static IP, look no further.

To be honest when I first saw their website I didn't think much. I had heard they could work with SupraTelecom, so I decided to try them out.
The service was incredibly fast and smooth. Their customer support is wonderful. The fact that I am on a month to month contract is also a HUGE burden off my shoulders. I was up an running within 48 hours of having placed my order. My speeds are even faster than when I was on DirectTV DSL. The only thing I had to pay upfront was for a modem and I recieved a rock solid piece of hardware.
I wish it had been this easy with all my previous ISP switches. I would highly recommend them. A++

Switched my DIRECTV DSL service to DSL Express in 4 days! Ordered service late on Monday, Dec. 30th (around 4:00pm) and received my modem on Friday afternoon, Jan. 3rd. Replaced DTV modem with the one supplied by DSL Express and was immediately using my new service! The only down time I experienced in the change was for several hours on Friday when my line was "switched" to my new provider (and I was awaiting my new modem).
The company offered me no start-up fees or contracts of any kind and reasonable monthly fees.
Getting 1230/218 which is slighly better than I was receiving with DTV. I hope this company is around for a long time.

This company offers DSL service for small and medium size businesses. Their coverage area appears to be mainly in South Florida, although I have heard that they have some national accounts as well.
They offer 1500KB download and 256KB upload over BellSouth ADSL lines to the DSLAM where their own equipment takes over, routing traffic onto their own networks. Customers can use straight Ethernet (goodbye PPPoE) and get static IP addresses. I switched from BellSouth FastAccess to DSL Express 45 days ago and have not had a minute of down time.
If I have a question, I can call a single number and talk to a live person within 60 seconds. Unlike my previous ISP, the person at the other end knows exactly that I'm talking about without routing me through 18 different call centers only to end up talking to the wrong department. Instead, DSL Express tech support can usually answer questions and/or accommodate my requests on the spot. Things like secondary name service and backup e-mail were promptly, correctly, and cheerfully done. Then, they always follow-up to be sure that I'm satisfied that everything is working. Who does that any more?
DSL Express' customer service is the best I have ever experienced. Other telecom companies should take notice -- good customer service at a great price is indeed possible!
