I've been with them for awhile and for the most parts everythings been great.

I signed up for the 1.5/768 soho plan and after almost a year i upgraded to the buisness plan to get the 5 IP's. I can only remember two times that i ever had a problem.

Both of these problems happened on the weekend when tech support wasn't there which kinda sucked. However i did email them about both of the problems and got a response the very same day! That first problem i can't really remember that much about except that it was fixed fast. The second problem took about a week to get corrected due to it being inconsistent and actually thinking it was gone the very fist day i submitted it but came back the next weekend.

So in otherwords they seem to work weekends to me.

As for the speed.... it could be better, i average about 1255/565 which isn't bad at all but i'd rather have it 1325/650 like some of the other people i see. I've never lost sync and other than the above listed troubles my connection is solid as a rock.

    ----------- Nov, 6th 2004 -----------

I received an email from Britsys titled "Urgent: Changes to your ADSL service."

In my opinion this email basicly said that they where getting rid of MCI and forcing everyone over to Covad or we could choose another ISP.

In this email i was given choices as to what packages i could pick from Covad. I thought to myself i really liked what i had and it was rock solid and i really didn't want to deal with this BS. Nevertheless my time with Britsys has been great and i figured it would be ok to go ahead and pick a new package.... i mean what else could i do right? So i choose the 6.0/768 on Thurs. 10/21/04 and asked when my current service would be disconnected and was told Mon 10/25/04 and that it would take 10 days for my new service to be up and running.

So on Tues. 10/26/04 my old service was still up and when asked why i was told that it would not be taking down until the end of October because i was paid up until then. This in reality doesn't seem like a bad thing except for the fact that i was told the process would begin on 10/25/04 so that's what i expected and wanted. I replied saying that i expected it to be down already and that i wanted to get the ball rollin' on this because i would have a ton of stuff to re-configure on 5 computers and wanted to get it over with and to proceed.

On about 10/27/04 i was disconnected via remote i bealive but still had sync on my router... i'm assuming that this was done just to make me feel like something was being done because the MCI pair wasn't actually removed until 11/3/04 a week later. There's also a number of things they could have done since i was paid up... but i'm not going to go into that. Seems that as if sales had their way after all because of the time i actually got disconnected.

On Fri. 10/29/04 i received an email from Covad Auto Status saying there was a problem and my order would be canceled if i don't take care of it within 10 days. It was signed by Covad Communications Group, Inc. and BritSys, Inc. So i called Britsys and i had to leave a voicemail like always. Every single time i've called them i've had to do this... never has a human picked up the phone when i call regardless of what time it is. So i leave a message saying what the Covad email had said and asked for someone to call me back. They called when i was asleep hours later so i didn't get to speak with them but when i awoke there was an email from Britsys support saying i do not need to do anything on these emails. I thought to myself what emails? It didn't make sense to me but figured they were talking about the Covad emails. It wasn't specific in the email i received so i wanted to make sure.

Anyways i replied to the message trying to make sure because that email was signed "Covad Communications Group, Inc. and BritSys, Inc" and that i had 10 days.... i didn't get a response so i replied to it for a second time trying to verify i was good to and didn't have to worry about it and asked for a status update. So on Tues. 11/2/04 i received a reply saying that tech support doesn't receive updates on orders and that i would have to contact sales for an update and it said nothing about what i really wanted to know... and to think that this is the person that wrote me in the first place!

At this point i'm like GIVE ME A FREAKING BREAK! What do i have to do inorder to get a answer to my question geez... i then reply yet again also sending it to sales this time aswell, asking the same question and also asked if i sent this to the wrong place why couldn't you just foward it to the right place and wanted for someone to call me and that i would be calling them in the morning. So i call them backup on the phone leaving them a voicemail as usual asking for someone to call me back because i'm still trying to get an answer to this and noone even bothers to give me a call back. Thanks!

Anyways on 11/3/04 the MCI line was taken down in the CO and i was finally given an answer to my question by sales regarding that message i received from support about not having to do anything about those emails. I was also told that it would take 3 days for SBC to update their records and i would have an update by 11/08/2004 from Covad.

Being since i'm writing this on 11/6/04 it seems as if they're waiting until the last moment to actually hookup the Covad lines after which i'll have to wait for them to send me a new router which is pointless because the Cisco 678 will work just fine from what i understand as long as it uses DMT which mine does. So as of now it's been 16 days since i chose my package and told them to go ahead. So the 10 days i was told it would take seems to have turned into 3-4 weeks from the looks of it.

What can i say? So at this point in my mind they've made a big mistake as to how this whole thing is being handled so in otherwords how i rate them is going to show for it.

I should point out that i've changed the Connection reliability from a 5 to a 3 due to them forcing this on me. It was rock solid before but as far as i figure downtime because of this switch deserves this rating... sure hope nothing like this ever happens like this again. Also Tech Support is taking a hit aswell due to not answering my question. They will never have a 5 due to not having 24hr support unless of course that changes. Other than that Britsys has had the best support i've had to date. Pre Sales information aswell as Install Co-ordination are taking the biggest hits out of this.

They're going to have alot of work to do inorder to earn my respect back at this point... that's if i'm even willing to give them a chance after all this BS... what they do in the next few days will make up my mind for sure as to if it's even worth it or not anymore. I would suggest making sure everyones Covad lines are even better than their MCI lines were... at this point i don't see how me as a consumer after going through this could settle for anythging less. The balls in your court Britsys what ya'll choose to do with it up to you.

    ----------- Nov, 12th 2004 -----------

I received an email informing me that my line would be connected on 11/11/04 which my old router actually synced on 11/10/04 which is good however i still had to wait for my new router. My new router arrived on 11/11/04 the same day my line was scheduled to go active. I received a new Broadxent BritePort 8120.

Man this router is big and the leds seem bigger than the others which really lights up the room which gets on my nerves after awhile. So i don't like it however i guess the important part is how it performs. The only thing i do like about this router is its user interface. Anyways on to the goods.

Once again for the record i ordered the 6.0/768 with 5 ips and after only one day of usage and some tweaks i would have to say i'm not very impressed because my speeds are very inconsistent! Also for the record this site says i'm 5774 feet from my Co. In the router status page it has a sync of 6016/768. With all of my previous isp's i've always lost 18% of my bandwidth and it was always the same. However now with this Covad line i'm losing between 30 - 60% of my speed! Every test i do is different... My recorded lowest was 2343/579 kbps and my highest was 4769/467 kbps which blows. My average with a total of 14 tests was 3680/554 so i'm missing 40%. So in reality i'm missing out by about 20%.

I'm in shock at this point because the pain of the forced switched and having to wait 21 days when i was told it would take 10 and now having to deal with very inconsistent speeds. Also there's the fact that this is PPPoE from the router which can't be good but i do know for a fact that it can be better than this...

Hopefully i can have this corrected and all will be good in the near future after all it's only been a day so maybe they can get my speeds where i know they should and can be. So i will see where the next few days take me and give another update soon.

I was such a happy Britsys customer from the first day I ordered ADSL service from them. Then, an email appeared telling me that I had to switch from MCI to Covad under them. They have terminated their MCI service and are picking up Covad.

Covad is more exspensive and my DSL service has been down for over a week and is still not back online.

I first received and email from Covad and Britsys stating that they were unsure if my location could support DSL after having is for months and then a follow-up email indicating that my service location had a problem with installing service at my location and if I did not find out why, they would cancel the order.

    This further delayed my order.

Britsys said I should change to Covad dedicated line service, but this was even more money per month.

I still do not understand why I was forced by Britsys to change from MCI to Covad and so far, this has been a very, very difficult change-over.

I was such a fan of Britsys until this mandatory switch.

As i said in "Bottom line". this is the way the every buisness should be run. Britsys is top example of it. They are very professional, they responded very quickly to my voice mails or emails and price is not to high.

I ordered MCI cable buster 1500/768 so far avarage is 1200/640 ( but solid) , not bad. Hope it will stay like this and MCI will start to offer higher speed.

I would and will recommend to everyone I know Britsys.

After nightmare dealing with others, I decided to try BritSys (based on reviews here). All of my dealing with them have been a joy. The sales department responded quickly and followed through on all commitments (unlike many others). Although I haven't had any major outages, tech support is always quick to answer even my technically-challenged questions.

My throughput on my DLS line has been great.

    No complaints so far!

Here's my story of wasted time...

7/21/2004 I ordered the 3/768 plan and got a confirmation email.

7/26/2004 I received an email with my IP address and configuration information. I was also told this:

After the telephone company lets Covad know that their part of the installation is complete, a path for your location will be built.

I sent an email back that this was kind of odd, I already had ongoing phone service so I let BritSys know, but didn't get any response. I just had service with Speakeasy (reselling Covad so I didn't think that the phone company needed to come out and do anything.

7/27/2004 Received and email saying that my CPE (DSL modem in English) had shipped and was given the tracking number.

7/30/2004 After sending an email asking why the DSL transceiver's DSL light would not come on I received this:

According to Covad, the phone company completed the provisioning on 7/28/04. The DSL signal should run over your existing POTS line.

    Later that same day:

Our techs don't see the line training up and the online information does not reflect that the order has been completed. More than likely the order needs to complete before it will be able to sync.

    Even later that same day:

The online system indicates that the order is not complete. When I called Covad, the representative told me that the phone company completed the work. Covad out-sources overseas and I am not completely sure the point got across in the translation. So, I'm going to go with the online information that the line is not yet complete.

8/2/2004 I get the following email:

I talked to a few people at Covad and finally found out that they need to trouble shoot your line. Their number is 877-722-6823 option #1. Your order number is 4463531 and the circuit ID is 102-513-600. You will need to speak with them directly to troubleshoot the line and it can be done at your convenience. Since they are in India, they do offer 24/7 tech support.

I am finding this difficult to believe. If I wanted to talk with Covad's excuse for support - worse now that it's outsourced to India, I would have gone with Covad!

    Later that same day:

Your order hasn't completed in Covad's system so our techs can't do anything yet. I talked to repair and asked if they could work on troubleshooting early. The repair tech said that he would skip the middle man (us) so that he could troubleshoot it directly. He'll have more access than our techs would to the line and the equipment. It would be more time efficient to talk to their Tier 2 Repair than to open a trouble ticket with our techs. Once the order closes, our techs can open a trouble ticket with Covad to shoot the line. They would still need to coordinate trouble shooting time with you so that tests can be run onsite.

It could be that the Covad/Speakeasy connection was not completely removed from the line or that the circuits are cross-connecting. Until troubleshooting is done, we can't verify that. If that is indeed the problem then any DSL connection will not complete until that is corrected.

If you want me to cancel the order, I can do so. An RMA came with the equipment and that can be affixed to return the CPE to Covad.

So now I have to sit on the phone with Covad. I wanted DSL to save me time, not use more of it.

I sent the DSL modem back and I'm waiting for the refund of my money that BritSys has.

Maybe BritSys isn't so bad, their support procedures aren't quite as slick or responsive as Speakeasy's, but they still have the weak link - Covad. But that's taken care of in other reviews...

The speed i ordered was 1.5M/768K and actual speeds I get are 1.25M/640K

I pay abut $47 dollars a month for the WorldCom CableBuster.

Ordered at the end of December and was up about 2-3 weeks later.

The equiqment was a Cisco System - Cisco 678 moden, 3 filters, and about 2 feet CAT 5 cord.

    A Static IP address.

Had some touble in the begginning while setting up but it was due to a broken filter and the people of tech support was helpful and were friendly.

Had earthlink before I switch to Britsys, first half of the year had crappy speeds, then i started to get about the speeds now except the upload was 384K. I like Britsys a lot better because I pay about 5 dollars less and I get higher upload speeds. Would recommend Britsys to anyone who is looking for good upload speeds for a better price compared to the other dsl providers who seem to cap it at like 128K.

"Order to live without a single hitch. Sales and Tech support respond in minutes."

"Britsys is on the ball. A rarity among the sea of providers out there."

Value for money:

I run a computer repair shop in Davis and have had customers ask me if there was any good DSL providers in town. Since I just moved to Davis I didn't really know of many providers that service the Davis area so I told them SBC Yahoo (explained in more detail at the bottom). Then they informed me that that's what they currently have. Doing some research on DSLreports as well as BBB I decided to give Britsys a try and so far I've been very satisfied with their service. If things go well , I will start recommending my clientele to go with them for their DSL as well as switch my shop's DSL over to them.

    Now for the nitty gritty:

The service I ordered was the Cable Buster, backbone provided by MCI Worldcom.

Speed is 1.5M/768K for $45 per month which includes 1 static IP.

I ordered an extra IP at $2.50/month.

The order was actually placed sometime in late June or beginning of July but I didn't have a landline installed at the time so the process didn't start until it was finally in place, which was the 7th of July.

The 21st of July the equipment came in and that day I was up and running. No hiccups, nothing. Sent an e-mail to tech support to have them switch my Cisco modem into bridge mode so I could utilize my public IPs, and they did it within 15 minutes of me sending the e-mail.

The only potential problem now is the occasional loss of connectivity for a few seconds every now and then. I do know that testing goes on for the first few days after install so I will wait until that period is over and gauge the reliability of the connection then and keep this post updated as time goes by.

    -Will
    The Computer Panacea

Some notes on my experiences with SBC Yahoo:

I've gone through more providers than I wanted (thanks Northpoint) and just until recently I liked SBC Yahoo the most *gasp*. I've ordered DSL twice from them and the process was fast, install was smooth, and connection was reliable (though I know this is not always the case). However, if you need to talk to tech support, forget it. I've called them before for DSL problems and got transferred from one department to the next until I came back to the same guy who said, "Didn't I just talk to you?". And then they kept telling me it was something on my end until I TOLD them exactly where the problem was. They escalated my call to real tech support and the tech there reset the equipment on his end and I was back up and running again. *sigh*

    UPDATE 8/10/04:

Connection has been reliable after a month of starting service so everything is running smooth.

Britsys has been an outstanding service provider thus far. I had some significant reservations after reading poor reviews regarding the CLEC available in my area (ChoiceOne Communications), but was thoroughly impressed by the reviews here and prior phone contacts with Britsys, so I decided to bite the bullet. After faxing in my contract I received an immediate reply of receipt and was told that installation would take 3-5 weeks. It ended up taking only two.

My telco hooked up the line (SDSL requires it's own pair) and the next day a ChoiceOne tech installed the in-house run and set up the SDSL bridge. I was given an install date for my local telco (SBC/SNET) from Britsys, and was told that ChoiceOne would contact me to schedule their installation. ChoiceOne didn't call, and showed up the next day (luckily while somebody was home). Everything went without incident.

My 384/384 line seems to max out pretty consistently and latencies are quite good. So far I'm very pleased.

Please note that my tech support and connection reliability ratings are 3 because I haven't had to call them yet, and I've not had the line very long, so I really cannot yet comment on either of those categories.
