Back in June 2003, I dialogued with Kelly over e-mail and she always responded within minutes. When all my questions were answered I signed up for their 1.5Mbps/768Kbps 18-month prepaid contract, which comes to $36.11/mo, including setup and equipment (which is owned). I got 1 static IP address. I faxed in my order form on a Friday afternoon (4:30pm BritSys's time).

The next Tuesday, the Cisco router, filters, etc. arrived via FedEx. I was extremely impressed. I plugged it in that night, and it synced up perfectly (note that that's less than 3 business days from order to sync!). However, it wasn't playing nicely if I hooked it up to my router--it only worked if I connected it directly to my computer with the crossover cable they provided. Tech support had already closed for the night, so I called Wednesday morning. I was connected immediately to a real person. They remotely reconfigured the router to be a bridge, and reboot it. When it resynced, it worked fine with my router.

Speed tests on DSLReports show that I get the full 1.5Mbps/768Kbps. I play Counter-Strike mostly, and I was getting ~40ms pings to local servers on average. The best was late at night when it would get down to 13-18ms.

In January 2004, I was forced to move by the apartment management: the property was being sold to another company. In exchange for the trouble, the apartment company offered to move me to a new, nicer apartment for free. However, this new apartment did not allow any DSL service except their own--so no BritSys. The move fee would have been $149, instead the cancellation fee was $299. I had about $300 left in my account from unused months of service (Feb - Oct 2004), so I just did nothing and let the account run out. Now, if BritSys had refunded my money because of my situation, that would be nice, but since it was detailed in the contract, it's fine.

I've since moved from that new apartment because it was too noisy. I'm way out 17500 feet from the CO, and no cable fibre laid. No DSL, no cable, but no noise either. I've got a site survey from CoopLabs scheduled for this weekend. If I decide to go with them I will definitely post a review.

12 days from order to DSL modem delivery and remote router configuration. Kelly (sales) answered my pre-sales questions extremely quickly. Speed test shows 1.1-1.3Mb down and 630 kb up, close to the best DSL performance I've ever had. Couldn't ask for anything more on either install or performance. Not a fan of the ~$75 install cost but cheaper than the other options and $45 a month is better than many.

I work as a technology consultant and chose Britsys for static IP so I could run my own home-office equipment. I received excellent and fast service with any of my pre-sales questions and once I placed the order I was up and running within 10 days. Had problems with MCI (local telco) getting things straightened out on their end (bad line card, then misconfigured port) but the Britsys techs who seem to always be available via e-mail dealt with MCI and got things straightened out. Having dealt with the Telco and cable based broadband providers for clients, Britsys was a joy. I'll be recommending Britsys to anyone who is looking for Internet access.

    1.5/768, Static IP, Cisco 768.
$45 a month, plus other charges, which ends up at $51.76/month.

These is the smoothest DSL transition yet, and the service is great so far.
I was up and running eight days after faxing in my order.
The advertised 1.5/768 speed tests at about 1300/630, which is dandy. Pings average about 30 ms, which is okay.
The $45 a month advertised price doesn't include a $2.70 per month charge for Universal Service Fee (other companies don't add this, in my experience), and the $73.14 "setup fee" was a bit annoying. But even so, it's a fine service for $51.76 a month, including pro-rating the setup fee over 18 months.
That's about the same as I was paying Covad ($49.95/month) for 1.5/128, but with much faster uploads and a fixed IP. And I no longer have to remember to check my e-mail before I can send mail (hooray!).

I need upload. I host it all and upload is crucial. I have had about 8 different ISPs in the past 5 years. Until this point I have not been totally satisfied. Speakeasy charged me 160.00 a month for 768/768 SDSL. I loved the upload, hated the download, and hated paying the bill. Covad had me at 1000/384 for a measily 70.00 a month and plenty of downtime. I am proud to say that Britsys has me at 1240/640 for the low price of 39 dollars a month prepaid for 18 months. I can even get 5 dollars off each month for every person I recommend to Britsys. That's right. It is possible to pay nothing for your Internet if you recommend enough people. I can not say enough good things about this ISP. The install was quick. The service is great. The price is unbeatable. You can't go wrong! Unless your too far from the CO. Then all bets are off. Enjoy!

Please enter my name "David Frasca" in the space that says "Referred By" on the contract. You will make me very happy. : )

I've only had the service for 2 days so it might be premature for a review.

I ordered service from britsys on dec 1, on the 9th I was hooked up. The last time i ordered DSL service was 3 years ago, and they took three weeks, which was very quick service back then. My main reason for going with britsys was their great upload speeds and no restrictions and so far i'm very happy.

MCI
CLEC party: WorldCom

"Great price, great speed, tremendous support"
Pre Sales information:

This is for the "Cable Buster" plan - 1500/768 ADSL.

First, on my ratings: the preinstall coordination is a bit loaded, as Britsys is at the whim of MCI/Worldcom (isn't this always the case, though?). It took a little longer than it should have, as Worldcom had to install a splitter at the CO (just for me! and "they ran into problems." After that was completed Britsys shipped out my bridge and it arrived in a timely manner (Fedex Ground). I could have given a 3, I could have given a 5 (I split the difference).

As for the DNS/Mail/News; I'm not using the mail server at britsys. They supply 1 static DNS "gratis." The big complaint is that they don't provide a news server, other than a 6 gig/mo. account through giganews. I can suck down 6g in a half a day (easy), so its pretty pointless (an extra $3/mo. to boot) but I knew that before I signed up. Binary usenet servers hosted at the ISP are a dying breed; Binary usenet servers (in general) that are actually usable (retention, completion rates) seem to be nearly impossible to find.

So that's the bad (if you want to call it that) - here's the good:

I had a nice volley of e-mails with Kelly in sales concerning features before purchase. Very helpful, no bait-and-switch. Everything on the table - and in some cases I was just too lazy to look it up myself.

Upon receipt of the bridge I had a pretty solid problem with my Linksys WAP/router (a genuine chunk of junk) - got through to tech support right away and they were very helpful. The router got nice and confused; a hard reset was necessary. I would have got there eventually... but I appreciated the help. Not once did I hear "the problem is with Linksys, call them."

After that was resolved I got an email telling me that, after our conversation, they tested the line and saw some "bouncing" and gave me the option to get back to them. I had yet to install DSL filters on a few phones (which the support guy knew) so I really appreciated that.

Next call was about a filter for an alarm system; I had to leave a message, but they got back to me promptly. Again, very helpful in an area not necessarily covered by them (in fact, the answer I got from ADT was they had to come out an do mojo on the system - at my cost). Found a filter, installed it myself... et voila, problems!

So, another call, this time about major static on the line with all filters installed. Now, let me say... my last ISP was RCN (are they ever having problems!) and whenever I had a problem I was in for a fight with them. In one case it took a month of fighting ("the problem is on your lines. We cannot fix your lines. We will have to re-run them at your cost") before they decided to fix a problem on THEIR end (wonky router). More recently the EXACT same problem has shown up again - after another month long fight a level-umpteen technician told me its a system-wide problem, he doesn't even know why they sent him out, there's nothing he can do... would I like him to replace the modem?

Having said all that.... after about a 2 minute conversation with Britsys on the noise/static problem I was having the support guy said "it could be a problem with the splitter. I'll make up a ticket and get back to you on what's happening." It took about a week, but MCI replaced the splitter (that they just installed :/ and the problem appears to be solved.

Any ISP that actually makes an attempt to resolve a problem seems a rarity these days. Britsys has, on more than one occassion, gone out of their way for me. I haven't been lied to, I haven't had emails/voice mails "lost," and I've had all of my problems resolved in a relatively timely manner.

Britsys appears to be a fairly small company - every time I've called (except once) I've got the same guy on support. That's something I can live with!

On overall (not average) I give Britsys a 5/5 star rating. Its SO nice to deal with a company that actually cares about customer satisfaction!

What else could you want? More speed of course, but for $45/mo, free cisco 768 router, static ip(s), allowed servers and very good tech support, I am not complaining. 1282/661 kbps tests, pretty good. They guarantee 50% of 1500/768, and after TCP overhead, I am getting about the best connection possible. I am less than a mile from my CO. Mostly good pings, ping 20ms to some places, but 70 to others.... Ordering by fax sucked, but overall not a big problem. I look forward to sticking with britsys and would not hesitate to recommend them so far.

Value for money:

I had a Qwappy Qwest DSL line, 640/256 and was using a local ISP to obtain a static IP. When I looked at getting slightly higher speeds [to improve my server performance], the price very quickly went above $100/month [it was $54]. So I decided to switch to BritSys - they sales folks were all very knowledgeable, and very prompt in responses to questions [yes, you have to fax something in - I didn't think it was the end of the world, like some other reviewers].

I opted for the $36/month 18 month prepay [which comes up to $747 for the first 18 months, including installation]. The contract indicates that you're willing to drop down to half speed, if the line quality isn't sufficient [which was still faster, up & down, than Qwest]. The most interesting part of this story is that during the 10 days I didn't have Qwest, somehow something went wrong with the line [funny - nothing had been wrong with it during the previous 3 years I'd had DSL on it...], so Qwest took 2 weeks to get around to fixing it. They fixed it on Thursday, my modem arrived Monday, and Monday night, I clocked 1300/648. For a static IP, and an external modem, their price is excellent - toss in great speed, and great tech support, and you have an amazing value.

For the record, I don't use their mail or news.
