We were a past BritSys customer and were moving to Chicago, searching for a provider. I had a GREAT experience with Quantum Connections and had hoped to keep them, but they did not serve Chicago (Quincy, IL, yes; Chicago, no).

Because of the past relationship, I contacted Beth and found that past relationships count for something with BritSys. Pricing and ordering were a great experience and the Cisco 678 arrived in the right place and at the right time. There was no direct discounting on my already having a 678 (which I don't need) or a SpeedStream (from my past BritSys relationship). They are both in storage and I really should sell them..

I looked briefly at SBC/Yahoo, but the speed with BritSys is faster and the price (even including the $25 monthly phone line) is lower than SBC's own offering. And there's none of the SBC/Yahoo client software to clutter up your machine and mess with the browser.

Ameritech (SBC) had the line turned on at the new location within a day and MCI had it up within 3-5 days.

When we moved in two weeks later, the line was hot and we waited (on a Saturday) for BritSys tech support to call back, configure the 678 and let 'er rip. The call-back came about three hours later and after five minutes we were getting close-to the advertised Cable Buster speed, one usable static IP.

I'd give Quantum Connections the nod based on tech support (my guy gave me his personal cell number if I ever needed it). But its hard to fault BritSys for the money and the easy ordering experience.

I'm happy to be a BritSys customer again.

"If you can get it, GET IT. You won't be sorry."

When it came time to switch providers, I was looking for service that had more of a balanced up and down speed. I was also looking for more that 128 up and static IP without having to pay a fortune. I found that the speeds offered by the MCI (Worldcom) resellers were exactly what I was looking for. They were offering 1500/768 with static IP(s). So I contacted all of them.

Right away, Beth at BritSys responded to my email with complete, knowledgeable and intelligent answers instead of the one line/word answers from another company (won't say who) or no response at all from others. Already I was impressed. I checked all the other reviews on DSLReports to see what everyone thought about each of the providers. BrtiSys still seemed to come out on top.

I then called Verizon to cancel the DSL that I had with them and told them that I needed the line sharing removed as soon as possible. Well, with Verizon losing my cancellation order twice (a long story all in itself), they finally disconnected their DSL from my line after 2 weeks. The same day I submittied my order to BritSys.

The following business day I received an email showing my order had been received and included my new IP addresses. On the 7th day, my line was active. After a few tweaks to my firewall, I was on my way.

Since installation, my speed has been excellent. I am approximately 9700 feet from my CO. My most recent speed test showed:

    2003-07-24 12:30:36 EST: 1299 / 639
Your download speed : 1299551 bps, or 1299 kbps.
    A 158.6 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 639454 bps, or 639 kbps.
Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier!

I have given BritSys 5 stars all the across except for "Mail, DNS, News." I am running my own DNS server and mail server so I cannot rate those services which I am not using from them.

In my profession, I have dealt with a lot of providers with T1 lines, ISDN, DSL, etc. My experience with BritSys so far has been one of the best, if not THE best, companies I have had the privilege to work with. They kept me updated of all of the progress being made every step of the way. Nobody else has ever done that.

Thanks guys!!! Keep up the good work.

    July 7th:
I Called there sales support multiple times with questions and either got through right away or got a quick response to voicemails I left. They were both knowledgeable and courteous.

I also called there tech support up with questions and I was always greeted by a human almost immediately. They immediately knew the answers to my questions, like whether I could disable NAT and enable bridge mode on the Cisco 678 so I could use my own firewall box. They even offered to configure the Cisco 678 for me when it arrived!

With that positive experience and a good price, I decided to order there SOHO package which I believe is exactly the same as the CableBuster plan, I had to order SOHO because it's for a business. Ordering was very simple and Britsys is VERY upfront about what to expect from the service agreement. You have to fax in the service agreement, and as far as all the important stuff like sync speeds, it's all in bold in the service agreement and in red on there website. Don't let this stuff scare you off, all ISP's do the same thing except most hide this information.

    July 8th:
Recieved an e-mail letting me know that my order has been received and also detailing contact information and what you can expect.

    July 16th:
After determining that tel co would have my DSL line up around July 18th, Britsys Shipped my Cisco 678 DSL Router.

    July 18th:
Received DSL Router and installed it, it was the simplest DSL install I've ever done and I've done it about six times. It worked immediately!

After I verified the connection was working, I called there tech support up to get the router switched to bridging mode so I could use my own firewall, they were able to configure it remotely for me!

For some reason I can't get the SpeedTests on this website to run, the tests are greyed out and I know I have Java enabled in my browser. But I did do a test on some other website and it appears that I'm syncing at 1.5/768 as my download speeds almost reach 1.4Mbps.

I ordered the Cable Buster in the latter half of June, as I was moving to a new house (away from my T-1 connected apartment complex *sob*) on July 4. The phones were supposed to be working on the 1st so the order could go through, but some speedbumps (what a surprise) with SBC held back actual activation until a few days later.

Regardless, once the line was active, Britsys got right on it, and communicated every step of the process of activating my DSL line with me. They also were prompt and right on target answering *all* my inquiries. Kudos.

Once MCI had completed the order, Britsys sent a Cisco 678 with all the trimmings. Their site says they'll send it FedEx ground (1 week shipment), but I received it the next morning in an Overnight box. Again, wonderful!

Installation went very smoothly - the 678 was preconfigured, and connected to my router without issue. The only speedbump I had in the home stretch was the primary nameserver was being uncooperative, but that was addressed immediately by tech support, and I was off.

The package (Cable Buster) is advertised at 1.5/768 with a static IP. I'm in a 20-year-old house approximately 7,000 feet from a CO, and I got 1.3/478 the first time (approx. 1pm). The upload is a little short, but DSL speed estimates are always a little malleable, and 1.3 down is a heck of a lot better than I was expecting. Also, you can sign up for newsgroup access for an extra $2/month on your bill, and the server is actually stunningly fast. I had an account on Newsfeeds for a year, and it outperforms their biggest servers by at least a factor of two.

In short - if you can get them, get them. SBC tried three times to get me to go with their DSL service, but the closest they could come to 1.5/768 was $99 a month or so, and no news, either. I've already got several friends in Britsys' service range cursing their SBC/Speakeasy contracts once they got wind of this deal. They'll be switching as soon as they can. I wonder if I can get a sales commission...?

Hats off to Kelly, Beth and Doug for all their help and patience. Thanks for everything!

I'm getting the 1.5/768 service with the Cisco modem for $45, static ip. I get about 85% of that speed. DSL providers can't always control the practical speed at the end of the line and they make it very clear that slower speeds are not uncommon. Plus, they guarantee 50% of the published speed.

I had them set up DSL in advance of my move to a new apartment, and it was ready to go as promised when I plugged in the self-install kit. I've had a few email and phone questions that have each been answered almost immediately with good solutions.

I've rarely had better dealings with *any* company. Thanks guys.

Thank you Beth and Matthew. You guys were great. It is a refreshing change from dealing with ATT @home and Comcast. I wish I have move over earlier. My actual bandwidth is at the top end of the contracted bandwidth.

Here are the specifics; I ordered 1500/768 with 4 static IP's for $55 per month. My actual bandwidth is 1400/650

The router (cisco 678) was $100 with 12 month contract. I ordered on a Monday and the equipment was delivered and the install completed on Thursday. All questions were promplty answered and issues immediately resloved. It was a very professional and courteous experience both with Britsys sales and Tech Support.

I would recommed them to anyone who want to get DSL.

"Best DSL I've had yet!"

I got the Cable Buster plan that Worldcom is offering and I used BritSys as my ISP.

I'm impressed - this is the 4th DSL installation I've gone through and this one has been, by far, the most painless install. And the cost of the service is incredible for what you get.

I used to pay $115 / month for a 384/384 sdsl connection with 4 static ip's at my old place. I am now paying $47.50 a month for a 768/384 (I couldn't sync at the 1.5/768 speed) adsl connection with 2 static ip's ($45 includes 1, $2.50 apiece for extra static ip's). I seem to be getting solid download speeds in the 500-600K range.

Setup was $99 and included the hardware - a nice Cisco 678 adsl router.

Installation did not require me to stay at home and wait around for service people even once! The telco did some outside work one day and then my router and connection kit were shipped to me. "Installation" on my end required nothing more than plugging everything in and snapping in-line filters in place on the phones. Then a quick call to brit sys on a saturday afternoon and they hooked me up by the end of the afternoon.

Customer service was fantastic - the sales rep was amazing in how quickly she got back to me with every e-mail I sent and she kept me in the loop for the entire setup/installation process. And while tech support is not officially "open" on weekends, I left a voice mail and they responded to my call to get my service turned on very quickly.

The only negative I can say so far is the cost of ending the contract - before 12 months is $299 - but before 18 months is only $99. After that, nothing. Even if you plan on having the service for 12 months, averaging that $99 cancellation fee over the 12 months is just an extra $8/month on top of the monthly fee - still a great deal in comparison to what else is out there.

The bottom line - if you can get this service I would highly recommend it. As long as you do not plan on moving within 12 months, do not let the cancellation fees scare you.

Loving it, not much more glowing I can do I think...

I don't usually post to the forums or reviews, but these guys are so solid that I had to. I am really happy with the service.
Having been disappointed in the past with DSL providers (Rhythms, DirecTV) I was bracing for a complicated order/install. Fortunately, I never had to do battle with anyone, in fact, I found myself chatting amiably, dare I say it, jovially, with the sales and tech support people.
Really, just a great experience, start to finish.
