I heard about them here at BBR and signed on to their Redline plan. My service was up and running within a few days but I wasn't seeing their top speed. They went above and beyond to make sure I was getting what I'm paying for.

One thing worth mentioning is that their news server has no binaries, so you'll need to subscribe to a premium service if you're into that sort of thing. Not a bad thing by any means, it's just something they don't offer.

Tech support takes several hours to get through -- even in an outage!

Our connection was severed when a router change was made behind the scenes, unannounced to users. At the end of the ordeal, I got several different answers as to what could and could not be done according to policy which is different than what is possible technically. In my case, the technical solution needed to be implemented in order to get our service back up and running. We switched providers at this point in the process. If you depend on your connection and cannot tolerate an outage -- then this is not the service for you. If it is ok if the service is down on occasion then it is cheap and fast!

I have had GWI.net DSL for about one month now after switching from Adelphia cable service. The speeds are only slightly less than I was getting with cable, but the price is 50% less. I average 1700/400, which is superb value for around $30.

I highly recommend GWI.net to anyone who can obtain it.

I read an ad in the newspaper for DSL service in the area for $29/month. After a little investigating, I found that there is not a contract period nor are there any setup fees. Also, the speed is 2400/512 for the same price that Verizon is offering 1500/128 ($35 if you don't have Verizon local and long distance service).

I ordered the service Thursday and my equipment arrived Monday morning. When I went home during my lunch hour, I hooked everything up, but my line wasn't provisioned yet. When I came home Monday night, I foudn that it had synced with the network! I tried getting online, but couldn't get it to work so it was time to try out tech support. When I called, the person that answered was very little help. All that he could tell me was that he didn't know why the WAN light was solid, but my line wasn't supposed to be provisioned until Thursday and that I should just wait for someone to contact me then to get set up. Being a bit impatient, the next morning I decided to go back to my still active cable connection and send an email to the morning shift of tech support. Within minutes of sending the email, I had a response saying that it was very possible Verizon had the line ready early and all that he needed was the MAC address of the connecting device. I gave him that, along with my username and he had me in the system, up and running within about 15 minutes!

Right now, I am using about 50 feet of phone cord connected to a jack with wiring that is so old, I'm surprised my phone even works. Luckily, the DSL connection is communicating fairly well over this. I am getting about 1400/425 for speeds, which should only get better once I run a connection directly out to the demarc.

I haven't had the service for long, but have heard great things and have seen a sold, fast connection so far. At my house, I have the option of fixed wireless for about $59/month 768/128 or cable which is $39/month for 512/128. With these choices, how can you beat 2400/512 DSL for $29/month?

There is no specific speed measure given, but depending on how close you are to a CO with GWI Broadband service, you can get up to and around 2.3Mbps/512Kbits. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is close to a CO. To find out how close you are, you can call GWI to see if your line does qualify for DSL first. I would also highly recommend GWI Broadband to any existing Verizon DSL customer. I can't say enough about GWI's DSL service. They call you up over the phone once lines are provisioned and help you set up over the phone if you do need assistance. Recently updated, now you can have up to 5 DHCP addresses, 2 of which can be static, if the networking department grants you one, for specified reasoning. A NIC is required, as they do not support USB connectivity, at the moment. When I signed up the modem was free and there are no setup fees. Also, the account comes with 2 mailboxes total and 40 mb webspace/email. So, if you live in Maine, and now that broadband is available in your area, I'd give em a call. And the best thing, there's no contract. If you cancel within a year, all that's needed is for the equipment to be sent back.
