I am a new customer to century link. And I've been having nothing but
problems even before installation. I gave one agent my cc number to charge
it, and he never did. So we had to call back. And it seems like everytime
we do call back we get different information. So shortly after
installation, I noticed that I'm not getting the package that I wanted
which I signed up for the first time and every time after I called. So I
called again. and this time when I called in, they didn't even recognise my
name on the account, but my credit had been checked to get this account in
the first place. so I told him the package that I want AGAIN! I asked how
long it would take for it to start working and he said it should be a
couple hours. Well I had to leave and run some errands. So I figured that
by the time I got back it would be working. But it wasn't. I tried calling
again and they were closed. So I was gonna wait for the next day and they
are still closed. It seems like everytime I call there is either an excuse
or u can't get in touch with anybody. I seriously just want to tell them to
come pick up their equipment and refund all my money back. They really do
have some of the worst customer service I've ever dealt with..

I am using this service(Centurylink) from past 3 months and they are adding additional
charges all the time and when we are trying to talk with customer care
services , they are not responding properly and not giving proper responce
keeping us in line for hours and hours, if we want to talk with them or
chat with them we need to get prepare at least couple of hours to waste
time, finally nothing will helpfull, they dont know what they are talking,
they dont know how to check the account details, if we ask any questions
like billing related, they cant answer any they will say only their
version, they dont listen customer version. and they just hang the call if
we ask some details they dont have any sense to speak with customer. they
just behave like illitrate people.

I dont recommend this servicen, not even 0

I contacted Century link this afternoon regarding my ailing internet speed issues, and the dialogue that transpired in chat left me feeling ignored and not valued as a customer. I had first chatted with Vincent G, who, was pleasant, and unbelievably fast with the cut and pasted pre-arranged messages.
- - - - -
Vincent G: It appears our engineers have discovered an issue in the network that distributes High-Speed Internet to your area. This problem can cause slow Internet speeds during peak usage hours. Unfortunately, relief efforts of this nature can take considerable amounts of time to complete. We're continually working on a permanent resolution but in the meantime, we certainly don't want you to be paying for service that you're not receiving.

Vincent G: We can do a few things with you, first verifying the modem holds the full signal we're sending it, then test the actual connection speed coming through your line right now and apply a fair credit to your account, if one has not already been issued for this incident. If Internet speeds are still slow at your next billing cycle, we'll be happy to issue another credit until our problem is resolved.
- - - - -

I asked for an ETA on the resolution and Vincent stated there was no ETA.

Now when I send my car to the shop for a repair I can get an ETA on the work...when I want to get a room added onto my house, I can get an ETA its completion, but when an engineer sees a known problem and are working on it, They can't give an ETA!?

To cap things off, after Vincent offered a credit to my account, he transferred me to billing where I spoke with Rayna and received the following:

- - - - - - -
Rayna F: I am unable to credit your account at this point until this issue is fixed, once this is resolved we can credit your account. I will make sure your account has very good notes on this issue so when you chat back in when it is resolved we will give the necessary credits to your account.
- - - - - - -

I can't even to begin to express how disappointed I am that Centurylink can't even provide an ETA on a known issue. Even if they pillow the time frame. I've managed service providing businesses for 20+ years now, and if you have caused your customer heart burn over the service you provide, I've always given comfort to the customer by demonstrating that you are aware of it, you are addressing it, and you will have it fixed in "X" time frame.

I've NEVER told my customers to check back and see if we've fixed the problem.

Centurylink...if you read this, Please learn from it, and get better, or you will be losing alot more customers in the future.

Service is actually down right now as I'm writing this review. On a daily basis for the past month it has been down about 40% of the time. I'm already at my monthly 5GB limit from T-Mobile just to get online this month, which not only has 100% up-time but, faster internet at my home than Century-Link.

That said, when the service is working, I'm happy with it. I get, pretty much, the advertised speed.

We have 5Mbps down and 512Kbps Up for $19.95 because we bundled Sat & Phone.

Re: options

Instead of "stating the obvious" why don't you give me some other alternatives or take the review for what it is, a review?

So your saying to get fast and more reliable internet I should sell my $750,000 home and 20+ acres of land and relocate my family?

The only options here are T-Mobile @ 6Mbps with throttling, LightLeap @ 3Mbps for $99monthly, or CenturyLink DSL @ 4.7Mbps due to my distance. No other options will ever be available as long as the NC Republican bill blocks other ISP's from offering me service.

I know for a fact that that there is one country in the south part of NC that has Centurylink. There is a second company that is building a fiber network in that county and offering FTTP with phone, TV and internet.

If you have not decided on Centurylink, I suggest that you don't. I have been given the run around for two weeks, telling me that a technician would show up, for two weeks in a row. I waited home all day, and no technician, and all the while, being told that there would be a technician here. It is a disgraceful organization. Any provider will be a better choice.

Extremely irritated with their unreliable service. Been down for 2 days during finals. We have down time at least once a week. We pay extra for the high speed router and still have a hard time streaming. Customers service is aweful. Don't expect any help from them. Plus you'll be on hold for hours. Avoid at all costs

We don't even get broadband it is DSL and when I have a problem I have to fight with someone "offshore" about it. I was given a number to go around that and they disconnected the number. I am what they call a premier member and if this is how premier members get treated then I would hate to see how they treat regular members. My times are incredibly slow and I often have issues with the telephone lines. They were going to have me fix all the issues by plugging my phone into another phone jack. I have 2 phone lines and only 2 phone jacks, both phones had static and problems. The oh so wonderful person on the phone told me that since they had already been out to fix the line a couple times the problem had to be in the house not outside, but I have been paying for line backer so that line is their problem too.

I have been having one problem after another with this company since they bought out Qwest. I loved Qwest but I hate CenturyLink and I am stuck with them.

Let me explain it.

Do you remember the good old days when ISPs oversold what they could provide and you couldn't get on line? You called and they said it was your equipment when you know it was not? It is the same old pea-in-shell con game. Now, instead of a dial up connection to a local ISP, it is DSL or ADSL, or FTTH or FIOS and an international telephone company that can give Las Vegas 40/40 and 100 Gbsp to Paris or London, but can't share i bit of extra bandwidth to give rural America a telephone that fails to deliver the "crystal clear" voice quality it advertises.

I have the same problem in my rural Midwest city that you have in your rural mountain city. You need at least 8/2 or 10/2 to pretend you have a decent internet connection and a VoIP phone. Their phones have not worked since they turned off POTS. I am a regular customer.

This company does not want to serve rural America, it never has. Neither does AT&T, Cox, Comcast, Roadrunner, etc.. It is not profitable to string wire between towns that are 20 miles apart that are not congested like LA, LV, NOLA, NYC, etc.. I just talked to another lady from the Dakotas who is having the same problem as we are. .

The only thing you can do is complain to your state utility commission that oversees utilities like, gas, lights and telecommunications, and don't stop. Complain to your senators and representatives in your state and in Washington. If we are paying for a phone service we should get it, or pay a lot less for getting a lot less service. I pay $70 for 10/.500 bundled with a phone. If you pay for 10/2 and do not get it, something else is wrong and it is probably at the Central Office. Actually it is in the board room.

Re: Let me explain it.

Oh no I pay that much and don't even get 10/2, I am supposed to get 7/1 or 1.5, I can't remember off hand, but I don't even get those speeds. The repair man came out today and he checked the lines and said it had to be in my house so his solution was to put another phone jack in, right in the middle of the wall in my office. I went outside and looked at what he had done when he left and there is a phone line hanging down the wall, not tacked down or anything.

I am ready to give up. Only problem is the other solution is no more reliable and has even worse customer service. There is one good company and they don't come out to our house, they go across the road from us but not to us.

Re: Let me explain it.

The other company can't serve your side of the road. It is all about political and protected territory that stops competition. .

They all say it is your problem when it is theirs. They do not want to fix problems they create. Rural America is the runt pup that gets pushed aside. If you can connect to the Internet -- the problem is NOT in your house or between your computer and where it connects. You probably have a box out side of your house you connect to or you have a pedestal you connect to. The point is you connect. You need a real tech - not a kid in training. Telephone is a bit different than cable. You may not have a strong connection if you are not near the telephone office. I am 8 blocks I have a good steady connection. What I don't have is a good phone.

Re: Let me explain it.

I actually live right outside Rapid City which has around 80k citizens and we do have 2 choices. In town they have 3 choices. We are able to pick any company we want.

The repair man came out and he did this ugly job of putting in a new phone box, all the while explaining things to me as if I was stupid. We have 18 months left on the contract then I think they will be history.

If you live closer to the CO they have a 10/768 option, but I cant get it. I have it at the office and it also disconnects a good bit. The fact is that it beats satellite but only marginally some days. I almost forgot to mention I was told over a year ago that they would be getting 10 MB out toward my area to feed a cell tower within 6 months then back feed, but it doesnt look that is going to happen or atleast not that I am aware of. Then again their online system is so messed up it still shows I cant get any DSL at all here. I have had it for 3 years....

This company is the most awful company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Their customer service is horrible and God forbid you try to get your Direct TV service unbundled because it WON'T happen.
IHATECENTURYLINK 12/18/12 3:56PM

This company is the worst company i have ever dealt with. I have tried to speak with a supervisor in customer service and was advised that they did not want to speak with me because of there own reasons i guess. i have never been with a company for over 1 yr and felt such total disrespect by there reps. i found a corporate number to contact and there operator was just as rude and continued to cut me off and transfer me to no where. i dont understand how this company has lied on tv about them being the "friendlist company around" yet none of there reps have knowledge or are very friendly at all. they should be ashamed of thereselves..I am terminating with them asap..I would rather deal with Verizon!!
justsoupset 10/10/12 7:57AM

I need a customer service survey sent to me for completion on a series of horrific botches on an incompleted internet start-up service, resulting in an incredulous and insulting act CenturyLink serving me with an early termination bill of $227.57. First I experienced a horrible time with an incredibly rude lady on the phone while initiating an internet start-up. She ended up hanging up on me, and not knowing whether my order was placed or not. Then a service guy came by un partially completed the wiring on the outside. In the evening I spent two hours on the phone with a technical support rep to try to get my internet activated and going. Later and closer to midnight I went outside and saw that the technician contractor did not hook up service. I stopped the service the next day before I ever got activated, and received a confirmation number for stop order. Then yesterday, a month later I received a bill from Century Link stating that I owe them $227 for early termination! I couldn't believe my "freaking" eyes! From start to finish, this aborted customer activation for internet was an unparalleled fiasco, like no other incompentency that I have experienced in my customer servicing walk in life. Even when I called another Rep to inquire about how to return the modem, she told me that she would send out a self-labeled box 90 miles from me to ship it back out. A month later now and nothing has arrived. What a bunch of bumbling employees! A need a name and number or e-mail of the highest-ranked Customer Service Director (regional or national) that I can file this report to. I wouldn't take this company's service if it were free!
stinsonsurf 9/18/12 12:05PM

this is the worst company i ever dealt with, how they stay in business is beyond me. they charged me many years for wire maintencance which they will not honor. I paid every month for nothing and i can not get a refund. Its a scam?

Before CenturyLink bought Embarq, we had good DSL service in our community. Then nearly 1 year to the date after they bought out Embarq, they became "oversubscribed" ... er excuse, me had "equipment failure". This seemed like they failed to renegotiate a contract for transit with someone, and decided to just screw their customers instead.

Now, one year later, speeds are still degraded, they still offer and take money for high speed packages they know they can't deliver. Customer service is laughably horrible, especially their social media "executive" team. Thankfully we have a new cable provider in town that seems promising, so we have options now - but a lot of rural america doesn't. The FTC needs to break up this company, the only reason they exist is because of monopoly.
