Is a bunch of crap. They went bankrupt just a month and a half after I signed up for 1.5mbps down/368up ADSL from Covad. Unfortunately, they were also my long distance provider. Luckily Covad.net has their 'safety net' in place to pick up users who's ISPs go bankrupt. Now I'm a direct Covad customer, straight through their routers (Bazillion's were less stable and significantly slower). It's a pleasure to be away from Bazillion. I just hope they don't run off with my "rebate" for installation. TRM

Bazillion is gone, without warning, and with our money. They are STILL charging us for their service! Anyone who was a Bazillion customer is urged to contact their credit card company and cancel payment on anything to Bazillion! Something tells me that they will find a way to cash their checks despite being out of the DSL business.

1-17-01 Review for Bazillion in Long Beach CA area zip 90813
They have never been up after install and they cannot be reached by any type of phone. Their website www.bazillion.com is down as well. They have always been next to impossible to reach but now they've fallen of the edge of the Earth. found out they went down Jan 12 2001 with no notice and just pulled the plug on the whole operation.
I would venture that they are down and out and will never get up.
They are provided through Covad and they are no help at all either.
I think the whole flakey ISP thing is just a fraud to collect sum money and skate with the loot before the CLECs (Covad, Northpoint, Rythyms) or the customers catch up with them. The operators are criminals in every way.
Buyer beware.

FINAL UPDATE (1/15/01)
On 1/13/01 received email from Bazillion stating that they are no longer going to service my DSL line. They said to contact Covad or Speakeasy to switch ISP without interruption. Speakeasy want's $89.95 month and Covad want's $64.95 a month. All other ISp's, I would have to go throught the normal DSL installation wait times. (B.S) On 1/15/01, my DSL connection with Bazillion is terminated. Hurray to Bazillion for the gracious 2 day warning. Now I'm writing this post while connacted at a whopping 26.4kbps (yawn yawn yawn). I will sign up for Covad today, because they are giving me a 1 month grace period to back out of the annual contract. If I can find a new ISP in the next day or two, MAYBE I can be up and running with them before the month with Covad is up.
NEW RATINGS: 0 0 0 0 0 0
Update: (1/10/01) I am sorry to read all of the negative posts about Bazillion. I have been up and running for 3 months and report no problems. I have never had any down time and my email has never been down either. Last week, I added another email address. Customer Care picked up on the first ring and had the new email address added immediately. I find it hard to believe that everyone is being truthful who post reviews on DSLreports . Yes, some people will have problems (some even major) but a good deal should be having the same results that I have. I have recommended Bazillion to 4 other friends in the Chicago area (11/00) and they all have had the same great experience with Bazillion that I have.
Yes, it is true that Bazillion does not offer DSL anymore. They are still an ISP for existing customers. I have to repeat, their service has been excellent and I have not seen any decrease in service since they stopped offering new DSL accounts.
The 400 minutes of free long distance every month, has been as advertised. Awesome deal. Good luck everyone else on your search for DSL.
Original message:
ordered 144k IDSL ( I am 22,000 feet from the CO) for $49.99 amonth plus an additional $2.00 a month for a second IP address. I am on a one year contract. My speed is usually around 124-133k download & upload.
Would of been up and running in 17 days if not for Ameritech. Ameritech came out on 2 occassions and failed to deliver the loop in the telco box. They finally delevered it on the third try, but I was still not up and running. Covad came out two weeks later and discovered that the Ameritech tech never plugged the telephone wire into the jack inside the telco box. Bazillion and Covad were always keeping me informed by email.

"You will not find a more sorry DSL Story! Flashcom, Rhythms, Bazillion, COVAD, Verizon."

Acquiring DSL should be much simpler. Clearly, companies with questionable integrity, immaturity in their business practices and lack of experience with customer satisfaction seem to have proliferated the DSL industry.
Here's my continuing story of obtaining DSL access....
07/02/2000 - Sign up via Flashcom's website.
07/11/2000 - Information packet from Flashcom received in the mail.
08/29/2000 - Call from Rhythms to schedule line installation for September 15, 2000. Adult, 18 or over, must be at home for inside installation. Discussion reveals my incorrect address. Rep claims account updated.
09/15/2000 - Wait at home, nobody shows. Call to Flashcom indicates Verizon on strike. A simple phone call would have been nice.
10/02/2000 - Call from Flashcom. Line installation will occur on October 05, 2000.
10/05/2000 - Wait at home, nobody shows. Call to Flashcom indicates the loop was connected to the wrong address. Flashcom will call back to reschedule.
10/26/2000 - I send email to Flashcom. When will Verizon be scheduled?
10/27/2000 - email from Flashcom. Verizon will be there on October 31, 2000.
10/31/2000 - Verizon sends technician out. A new cable must be run from the phone poll. Hmmm, before we do all that could you test the loopback from the poll? No can do. The day ends and the loopback fails. There is 'Customer Provided Equipment' (CPE) on the line.
11/15/2000 - I finally call Flashcom to determine if a cable modem solution might be better for me. By the way, I'm all of a sudden scheduled for loopback testing tomorrow, November 16, 2000.
11/16/2000 - Wait at home. Verizon technician comes to test the loopback. Same problem condition that existed on 10/31/2000.
11/16/2000 - Call to Flashcom. Now their call taker's rudeness and incompetence starts. None of the supervisors will call me back either. 11/20/2000 - Wait at home. Verizon technician shows up. This man is very experienced and has a will to get this working for me. Still, his equipment shows CPE on the loop somewhere.
11/21/2000 - Wait at home. Same Verizon technician tries different cable pairs. Still sees CPE. Calls the Central Office (CO) to have them remove the Rhythms switch. CPE indication goes away. Hmmm, he calls Rhythms and finally gets somebody who can talk to him at his technical level. They agree the loop has passed.
11/22/2000 - Flashcom says to call Rhythms to schedule the modem installation. Huh? I can't figure out who I'm doing this deal with. Hoping to expedite the completion, I send email to supervisor at Flashcom asking them, given the circumstances, could they broker the finalization of the deal. Sorry, they wish me the best of luck.
11/22/2000 - Call Rhythms. They'll be off Thanksgiving Holiday and will still need 6-8 days of testing before they can schedule.
11/27/2000 - Call Rhythms. They have a recorded message. "A Business issue has arisen between Flashcom and Rhythms. We are unable to process any requests. We are working diligently to resolve the situation." I sent email to Flashcom asking for advise.
11/27/2000 - Call Flashcom. Due to high call volume can't take my call. Call back at a later date.
11/27/2000 - Send e-mail to supervisor at Flashcom. Based on situation, should I begin looking for another ISP?
11/28/2000 - Call Flashcom. Speak to call taker. I was instructed to call back in a week and the negotiations between Flashcom and Rhythms should be finalized.
11/28/2000 - Received e-mail response from supervisor at Flashcom. "We can't guarantee or promise any dates. If you do decide to go with another ISP please let us know so we can cancel the order. There will be no penalties to you. We apologize for the lack of detail. Please let us know what you decide."
11/29/2000 - Contact Bazillion. Sign up for their DSL service. The CLEC for Bazillion is Covad.
11/30/2000 - Contact Covad to verify as much information as possible. They had the wrong e-mail address for me.
11/30/2000 - Hmmm. Better check Bazillion information. Yes, they had the wrong street address.
12/04/2000 - Call Flashcom. Still no change. The relationship between them and Flashcom is still under discussion.
12/05/2000 - Receive date for install of Covad loopback.
12/05/2000 - Send e-mail to Flashcom to cancel order. Asking them to please release the pair to Covad.
12/07/2000 - Wait at home. Verizon technician shows up. I show him to the NID. I explain that the loop had passed and this should be easy. He spends all day trying to get it going. He gives me the technical explanation. The lines are crossed. He has to turn it over to the cable guys. Okay, Verizon seems to be the root of the major confusion. I guess if you must allow competition on your lines you can, at least, make it very difficult for them. Or, Verizon is extremely disorganized. I wonder who is eating the cost for these Verizon technicians, and I use the term loosely, to spend hours upon hours trying to connect two wires.
12/07/2000 - Inquiry from my neighbor. His 56K line is mysteriously down. Coincidence perhaps?
12/08/2000 - I call Covad. They inform me that the loop has passed and they will test the line all weekend. I should call Monday to see if the tests are still passing. If so, I can schedule another day off so they can install the modem. Joy! I know what will happen now. Since Verizon couldn't keep a clean pair for more than 10 days I expect my DSL connection, if I ever get it, will go up and down more than the sun. If I ever get DSL, I will run frequent speed and connectivity tests. I will use these metrics when I have to try to get my bill pro-rated.
12/11/2000 - I called Covad. They informed me that the test, over the weekend, has failed. They give Verizon 5-7 days to fix the problem. After that they'll escalate to their 'short term facilities'. I'm really thinking Verizon will soon be offering DSL. Even though Verizon is supposed to be allowing competitive business they are making it difficult/impossible for any other DSL provider. Or, in some areas, their lines are very improperly configured and they can't figure it out.
12/12/2000 - Covad sends email scheduling the modem install for December 13, 2000.
12/12/2000 - Covad sends email canceling the modem install. I call them to find out why and they claim Bazillion has requested the cancellation.
12/12/2000 - I call Bazillion, they don't know why it happened. I ask if they can pull the all-stop on the cancellation. They try, I should call Covad later to see if they were successful.
12/12/2000 - Voice mail from Rhythms... Yes Rhythms. They have scheduled their modem install for December 14, 2000. I left voice mail for them to call back.
12/12/2000 - Climb Texas Tower.
12/12/2000 - Call Covad. The line has been decommissioned by Verizon.
12/12/2000 - Start over. High speed cable not available in my area. Fill out order form on Bazillion site.
12/13/2000 - Call from Rhythms. Is December 14, 2000 good for me to be at home for the modem install? I asked if they could run a loopback test on the line to verify that it's still good. They said yes.
12/13/2000 - Call Flashcom several times. Each time the call volume is too high to accept any calls. Call Rhythms again. Now they can't give me any information. Suggest I call Flashcom. They give me a different number and I get through to Flashcom. They indicate everything is a go. So what about the email I have from the Flashcom Supervisor confirming my cancellation? I'm still leery about the loop too. Flashcom gives me a different number for Rhythms. I call Rhythms again asking if they would test the line. It passes. They confirm delivery of modem tomorrow. They indicate the whopping speed will be 144/144. Covad is promising 640/128.
12/13/2000 - E-mail from Covad. They've scheduled the loopback test for December 21st. You see what's going to happen here don't you? I'll either get two DSL lines or one will stomp on the other. My word, can you imagine how this will confuse things? I'm sure Verizon is happy though. I wish I could see the ticket for their bills back to the CLECs.
12/14/2000 - Wait at home. Rhythms sub-contractor shows up with DSL modem. Loopback fails, of course. His call to Rhythms indicates the loop is run to the wrong address. This despite my calls to Flashcom and Rhythms yesterday. Both of them indicated the loop was good and everything should be fine. Of course, Verizon can now bill the CLEC more money to come back out.
12/21/2000 - Verizon is a no-show.
12/22/2000 - Verizon shows up. Call from Covad. Can I be here at 2:00 P.M. so the COVAD Technician can install the modem? Yes! COVAD technician shows up at 1:15 P.M. DSL is working by 1:30 P.M. By 1:45 P.M. my connection drops. Call COVAD, they say call Bazillion. Call Bazillion, they say the order was cancelled and can't explain why. They suggest I find another DSL provider since they don't believe COVAD is trustworthy. Further, they're no longer an ISP in my area so don't re-sign up. Go to COVAD's web site to start over. So, I've been trying to get DSL for 6 months. In one day the phone company came and installed the loop. The provider came and installed the modem. I used DSL, the order was cancelled and the loop was de-commissioned.
Summary... Number of days waiting at home - 9 Months waiting for DSL - 6 Installation complete date - n/a
Recommendations... Don't set your expectations that this process is easy. Expect that the install will take several months to complete. Question every conceivable problem you could imagine. Don't expect Flashcom, even though you're doing the deal with them, to have any sort of desire to really want to help you. Don't expect that ISP has strong relationships with the local DSL carriers, i.e. Rhythms, Covad. Don't assume the telephone company will provide you with a reliable loop to the CO. Expect them to send a technician with no DSL experience. It's a much different technology than analog voice.

just wanted to update my review.. some time has passed.
i was wrong about tech support.. it's not bad, it DOES NOT EXIST!!!
service was ok for a while, they routed my through chicago (from NYC!!) and i was pinging 60-100.. all of a sudden i started pinging 250! i e-mailed them - nothing. called them - nothing. e-mailed them again and said if they don't fix it soon i'm cancelling my service - nothing!!! right now i'm in the process of looking for a different isp. i AM very glad i ordered their month-to-month plan so i don't have to wait a year to switch. don't sign with them!
//previous
when i first called them, i realized that i would not be able to get any kind of tech support from them. i called tech support and asked if the account came with a unix shell account - "what's a unix shell account?" ... i tried to explain and then gave up.
i ordered Covad's 608/128, living in NYC ($49 a month.) at first i was routed through seattle and my ping was hitting 250+. a few weeks ago they re-routed us through chicago, ping dropped to 60-120. i can live with that. for the past two days the service was down without any prior e-mail. grrr. other than that it's ok. month to month is the only reason i like it.
bottom line - get it if you're not sure, you can always cancel. service is ok, if you're near seattle or chicago. they're promising to add POPs all over east coast soon, let's hope. don't get it if you rely on tech support often.
lately they haven't been picking up the phone for tech support at all, i'm thinking of switching to a local isp. east coasters should look for another isp, or at least make sure that they have a POP set up near you.

Covad install was on time. The installer kept complaining that this was a tough install. Left with connection supposedly working. Called Bazillion and got through in one try (first and last time that happened). After many attempts still not getting an IP address. My call was escalated to the next level which may not actually exist since 2 days later I have heard nothing. Discovered that the Covad installer hosed the phone jack so voice no longer works on it. Sent follow-up emails with no response. Bazillion's phone support line constantly loops back to the annoying greeting and eventually disconnects. No way to leave a message or get into a queue. If I am not working in the next day or so I'm going to cancel.
