So If You have A Wireless Router Of your Own You have To Piggiback Off Their Router. I Can hook Direct 2 ONT without VerzionRouter(Actiontec Equip.) I no longer am with Sprint.

I am rating Sprint all 1's, because of thier actions this summer to up and shut off service to thousands of business customers the summer of 2002. I had re-signed on with their alternate service offering and was told my service would be uninterupted. Psyche! I am unfortunately still with them - as a matter of convenience only - after being without access for a full month. With an office move planned for this May, changing our ISP just isn't going to happen with this office. Stay away from Sprint, IMO.

08/15/2001 Just went through a THREE day outage, both voice and data. Sprint blaims SWBELL, Bell said it wasn't their problem... you know, back and forth. Have had noise, static, and "ocean waves" (occording to one of the Sprint customer service reps) Sure glad this month is free.... otherwise I would switch back... I really enjoy the added speed, but how much downtime and agrevation is that speed worth??? Started off around 3800 + down and 800+ up.... now down to 3300+ and 700+ Still have extra noise on the line that has not been resolved..... Will update as time goes........

IT HAS BEEN FUN, AND IT HAS BEEN FAST

NOW HOW DO I GET RID OF THE REVIEW.......????? ?@#$!@#$%#%^@

    Hi,

I cancelled my ION service on 12/13/2001 and await my $400 refund from Sprint. They did not charge me for the last month of service. I now have Verizon (ex GTE) DSL which I had installed on another line at my house. I self Installed the new Verizon DSL but I had Verizon come out and unhook the ION hub and hook my other 2 voice lines back up to Verizon.

Sprint ION was great while I had it.

    Steve

I'll start with the pubchline. My Sprint ION XT2 service was installed yesterday 7/13/2001 by Kevin from Sprint in La Palma. He was great. It took 3 hours to get me installed and working. The 2 voice lines ported from my old numbers sound great. No echo, clear as they ever were when they were Verizon/GTE analog voice lines. I have a C50 Hub. I have 2 fixed IP addresses.

Speedtest from Sprint in Rialto is consistantly over 4 Mbits/second download and over 600kbits upload on either Windows 98 First Edition on an HP Pavilion PIII 500 using an INtel EtherExpress10/100 NIC or an Apple Powerbook G3 Wallstreet with a Powerlogix BlueChip G3 processor upgrade runnning OS9.1 .

When I hooked the machines up behind a Sohoware Broadguard NBG800 the speeds drop to around 3 Mbits download and 550Kbits upload.

The web control panel gives an error message when I try to manage my feature options. Kevin the installer called it in to be fixed.

I am very satisfied with the service and it was worth the wait.

    Original review below:

I signed up for Sprint ION XT2 service on March 15, 2001. I had been
getting "bulk" email from them since October 2000 but each time I responded, they said it was unavailable at my address. Finally , on March 15 it was
"available". My Installation date was originally supposed to be April 30.
On 4/18 Verizon left a blue card on my door saying they had been here to
"Do your Sprint Order" but nobody had called or emailed me in advance to
    tell me they were coming.
When I called the number on the blue card, they had no record of any
service call having been scheduled. When I called Sprint, they rescheduled
the Verizon install and postponed my Sprint installation to May 10. The
Verizon person came on May 2 and was unaware that I had 4 phone lines. He
did not have any 6 pair drop cable and came back the next day. He replaced
my 4 separate drop cables from the pole to my house with a single cable and
said he would tell them I was all set for the Sprint Install. On May 9, I
got a recorded message from Sprint reminding me of my install the next day
and that I had to have a grounded outlet. I went and bought one of those
little $5 things that you plug into an outlet and LED's light up to say if
you have ground or an open lead or whatever depending on which lights come
on. My plug was OK with ground but while I was gone to the hardware store
someone from Sprint had called and left a message that they had to cancel
my installation. I called them and they said there was a problem with the
cage and they could not give me a new install date at that time and if they
could not give me a date within 30 days they would have to cancel my order.
I called on June 1 and they said they were unable to reschedule me yet.

This is quite annoying because I was hoping to have a fast connection and
looking forward to firing my current ISP , jps.net ( bought by onemain.com and now onemain bought by Earthlink) upon completion of the
    Sprint ION install.

Many of my calls to Sprint have required referral to a second person. The
best of them is named B. David Kearny II ,Order Management Consultant
II/IONSC . He sent me email to confirm our conversation, gave good answers
and didn't act like I was asking too many questions or imposing by calling.

    Steve

I had been on a notify list for ION for quite some time. I've been around other technologies... in my last house, I had Roadrunner cable modems (nice install times, nice speeds), and when I moved here, I got Southwestern Bell DSL (crummy install times, better speeds).

It took a little over a month to get installation. But I will give them this -- the date they gave me (the morning of August 8) was spot on -- no delays. I also did get some emails from ION in the pre-install process, to let me know how things were going (such as provisioning of the line).

When the install tech got here, it took him about an hour to get wiring taken care of, install the hub, and get the computer set up. Part of that time was him calling into the office... it seems that they roll the trucks without the IP address information, and that's manually entered, not DHCP.

Anyway, we had data right away... but it took another two hours for the voice part! First the hub wasn't downloading the phone information, then it seemed that it had a corrupted configuration...every time something was fixed, it was done on the ION side, so we had to wait 30 minutes or more to see if it worked. In the meantime, I could not receive calls... we could place them, but nobody could hear us.

In any event, they got that fixed, and all is well! I signed a 24 month contract (12 to waive the equipment, and 12 to waive the install). The service is fast (my speed test with DSLReports maxed at 5400 download... Dude!). And the voice line is very high-quality -- that first night, I had to dial into my employer's LAN for some work, and I got a 50000 bps connection... and I never got anything remotely like that before! But then, the only analog part of that connection was between my laptop and the ION hub, since all voice is digital going out.

Another neat thing... I can forward voicemail messages to my Sprint PCS phone... that's kinda useful

I do wish that they had an option to buy more static IPs... right now, you get one (I have the xt1 product, one phone line, 1 IP).

The cost is $99 a month, plus $5 line access charge that the LEC bills Sprint for the use of the copper. I presume they list that seperately in case SWBell raises the rent on them, Sprint can say "Look! It's not us!"

All in all, not bad for my phone line, 200 minutes of LD, and the internet The service is rated at 8000/1500.

    UPDATE: 12/31/01
Well, today is the last day of my Sprint ION service. The SW Bell truck rolls today to provide me dialtone.

I've decided not to go back to SWBell for DSL service. They simply have no clue or care about customer service. If they put as much thought into their residential data offerings as the dialtone, then maybe we'll talk. But I'm not in the mood to wait 60-90 days for an install again.

I'm going cable. Actually, I've had it installed for a couple of weeks now, running side-by-side with my ION service. 48 hours from initial phone call to being up and running -- and the telcos wonder why the cable co's are winning the cable war?

No, it's not as fast as my DSL was, and it's nowhere near my ION speed. But it's a good solid speed, it will still be here tomorrow (unlike ION), and I've not had to turn the modem off and on every few days (as I had to do with DSL).

I will miss those 735kbps downloads, though. *sigh* And the dialtone service of ION was flawless.

    Farewell, ION.

Lost orders, repeated non-installs, this whole thing was a rolling train wreck from the start. In late September after yet another missed install date, I asked to cancel & get my deposit money back ($200). They were very insistent about not wanting to do this as I 'would be installed VERY SOON'. I finally said 'whatEVER', and figured after the next non-install, I'd pursue getting my money back.

Lo and behold, THIS install happened, October 5, 3 months after the originally projected date. Install went fairly smoothly, and the service itself is killer.. BUT..

on October 17th (one day after receiving an email Welcoming me to Sprint ION and UPselling me to other Sprint services) I receive the "sorry, no more Sprint ION" email.

So - NOW WHAT? I'm sure, based on how HORRIBLE my ION pre-install customer service was that this will be a zillion times worse.
Also, I will have to re-instae my phone service, etc..

Any other ION-ites out there know if there is any recourse? Will I get my $200 back?

"Great idea, if it was possible to get..."
"Inexcusable errors on signup (that only worsened)"
"I wish I had never called them to begin with..."
Pre Sales information:
Install Co-ordination:

I wrote previously about the inept service I was receiving on an attempted ION order. As a result of my message I received some information that made my installation possible. After four weeks of problems and errors, I was set to have my line provisioned on 10/17, and ION installation on 11/05. Of course, ION service was cancelled, but unfortunately my provisioning was not. I woke up on the 18th to find all of my phone lines dead. Verizon told me the lines had been provisioned to ION, and my Verizon account was terminated. To reinstate service I had to pay Verizon $61. I have been a Verizon customer for 18 years, but I had to pay to turn my lines back on. Sprint is willing to give me an account credit of $61 to offset my expense, but I do not have any Sprint accounts! What a nightmare!

2003 UPDATE: More than a year after this debacle, I received a check from Sprint in the amount of $600! Service was a failure, but they do have integrity.
