UPDATE: I finally got off my butt and obtained a good NIC: 3Com 10/100. I am now getting 5Mbps + down and averaging 400-600Kbps up. The quality is outstanding! No outages, no dips in speed. Voice quality is also excellent with no problems.

I previously had Earthlink DSL through Verizon. I moved to a new city and I qualified for the ION service. I signed up for Sprint ION xt2 package at the online form on Wednesday, March 14th. Per the online form, a Sprint rep (Renee Bender) called me back the next day on the 15th. She was extremely friendly and went over all the necessary points of the service. The xt2 package included 2 static IPs, 2 voice lines, 400 minutes of long distance, 2 voicemail boxes, caller ID and call waiting all for $120/month. She confirmed an install date of Thursday, April 26th. Yeah, it was a long wait but the first thing you learn about DSL is "be prepared to wait!"

I called on Monday, April 2nd and spoke with Bobby to get a definite install and check to be sure everything was on track (the 2nd lesson of DSL: always double check the order status!!!). The PreInstall Tech/Agent stated the install date was still tentative for April 26th and that Verizon would be out today or tomorrow to hook up the NID. Bobby asked me to call back a few days after Verizon finished the NID to confirm my instal date. True to Sprint's word, Verizon (my ILEC) came by on Tuesday, April 3rd and hooked up the NID without a problem. I was very impressed with the accuracy of the info given to me.

I called a week later on April 10th and spoke with Anita. I again inquired about my install date. Overall, Anita was either 1) not too informed or 2) wanted to get me off the phone. I asked her what my install date was and she put me on hold for several minutes. She said to wait until Verizon hooked up my NID. I told her they already did so. She put me on hold for serveral minutes more and then stated to wait for "loop acceptance" and then an install date will give 10-14 days after that. Uh, hello? That puts me at April 26th. So, she blew me off (I feel). I called back the next day April 11th and spoke with Donnette. She confirmed my install date of April 26th, no problem. I think Anita's service was a fluke.

At the risk of being an annoying customer, I called again on Friday, April 20th to confirm the install date. I spoke with Donny and he confirmed the date on my account. Everything was all set. I didnt bug them again. On Tuesday night, April 24th I got a recorded message on my machine from SprintION reminding me of my install date. Very cool touch.

On Thursday morning, April 26th around 8:30am the Sprint Installers called me and told me they would arrive around 9am. They did arrive at 9am and explained the process to me. Both were 110% professionals. They knew their stuff and were very friendly (I like the blue booties-nice Customer Service touch). While I filled out paperwork, they check the synch at my NID.

Bad news: no loop detected. Verizon screwed me (what else is new?). The Sprint Installers were very apologetic and explained that Verizon (by law) had to fix it within 24 hours. The Installers called thier dispatch and placed that work order with Verizon and rescheduled me for a May 11th install. Ok, that sucks but I know it is not Sprint's fault. Several hours after the Sprint Installers leave, the Verizon tech knocks on my door and says he fixed the problem. Just as a note of contrast, the Verizon guy was unfriendly, impatient, and had the name "Grumpy" on his nametag. Great.

Friday night (after midnight) I went to use my dialup to check email. The modem said 'no dial tone.' I was too tired to mess it with it and went to bed. The next morning, I really had "no dial tone." I called Verizon for the no dial tone issue and after several people I was told that my phone number was picked up by Sprint and was out of Verizon's system. I needed to call Sprint. I called Sprint tech support and he explained my issue is for Customer Service ( I can understand that) and transferred me to CS. The CS rep didn't really want to hear my problem and after a few words wanted to transfer me back to Tech Support. I explained I was just transferred but he was firm on transferring me. I asked if he could warm transfer and the rep cut me off stating "I ALWAYS warm transfer." What a jerk. Ok, back to Tech Support.

Back in Tech Support I got Mike. Mike is hands-down one of the best Sprint agents (or any phone agent) I've talked to. After the supposed warm transfer from CS I again explained my problem to Mike. Mike was a little surprised and said my problem was inconsistent with what the CS agent told him. Anyway, Mike did some digging, called Sprint Dispatch and got me a Truck Dispatch for Monday, April 30th (no truck rolls on the weekend-fair enough). Mike took control of the problem and got things fixed.

On Monday, April 30th, the Installers arrived again, got synch at the NID and finished up the install!!! Once again, the Sprint Installers were 110% professionals. My main system runs Windows 2000 Pro and they didn't even flinch. All they needed was Admin rights and they were good to go on thier own. After 5 hours of installing, configuring, running cat 5, and other stuff, they were done. Voice and data were up and running. They gave me all the info I needed. All of this work and repair was completed in a expeditious manner thanks to Mike in Tech Support!!!

Speed tests show 1.5 down and around 700-800 up. I have 5.5 down at the NID but the installer pointed out I have a 10Mbps NIC. Oops. My fault for buying a Blue Light special at Fry's Electronics. So I will fix that. But the speeds are very consistent. Two static IPs is also a nice touch (no freakin' WinPoet!!!). I got several machines up and running from the main system. Everything runs off the ION hub, including the 2nd phone line. The main phone line is the same number and can be used at all jacks throughout the house. The SprintION control center is an interesting way to manage your account and the settings, but for some reason loads very slowly? Not sure about that one. I've been with Earthlink since 1994 and it is an outstanding company. Email servers are good, but news servers suck. Oddly enough, SprintION has its own DNS; I thought they might use Earthlink's, but they don't.

Overall, for having the service less than 24 hours, I am extremely happy with the service. I think I am even more satisfied with the experience with Sprint. The support and info from the reps is outstanding. The outstanding knowledge and professionalism of the installers was an unexpected surprise. The value is great. I pay Sprint for all voice and data service: local, long distance, and DSL; I no longer pay Verizon jack (which is what they deserve!) I highly recommend this service (and company) to anyone!!!

Redondo Beach,Los Angeles,CA

We have DSL for more than 2 years, first one MM Internet - down every single day, no tech support; second one is Flashcom - of course annouced bankruptcy and left us no where...

We ordered the service in mid March 2001, Sprint provision the phone numbers and said all are set and installation will be April 23, 2001. We are escatic because of the 2 additional phone lines (currently 2) and so forth.

On April 16, they emailed us saying that the service is unavailable in our area. Why would they want to spend their staff's time and our time for over 25 minutes over the phone and emailed to us just a week before the installation saying the center within our vicinity is not ready for ion (Verizon center?).

Anyway, 2 days later, a Verizon Technican came by and do something outside our property but we didn't get to ask him what's going on! I called Spring and asked, they said, "No service for you, sorry..." So I asked what the Verizon technican doing outside our property? Sprint said he's testing the line, ok.... Here came more appointment.

At April 24 night, our phone lines are totally down without notification! Sprint PCS cell phone does not work in our place (where our friends use other providers and they can talk inside our place with their phones), so I have to drive up Sprint PCS area and make my call.

First to Verizon (our phone provider), they said we are no longer their customer...WHAT!!! We are no longer in their system, all lines are transferred to Sprint. For the entire day, battled with Verizon and Sprint for resolving this problem. Finally, Verizon turned back the service on Arpil 25 night.

Lesson: When Sprint said you are not qualified for their service, make sure they don't take you with them. Call your local provider not to disconnect you because you are not accepted for the deal. If you run a business, no phone for a day is extremely critical and can cause you big bucks!!!!

Now, we just have to subscribe to @home cable, since we don't know who will be reliable not to file bankruptcy for the next year and be competitively priced. Why don't Verizon offer the same package similar to Sprint Ion? If they do, that will be terrific!

I ordered Sprint ION in October and it took until the First of February to get it installed.

After reveiwing what I was paying for local phones (3 lines), ISP and Long Distance I determined that I could get the high speed connection, 700 minutes of long distance and 4 phone lines for about what I was paying for 3 lines a 56k dial up ISP and little or no long distance. With two children in college out of state and a third living in CA I expected the long distance charges to increase substantially.

After one aborted attempt at install ( SouthwesternBell had disconnected the DSL line) I got the service installed on the date previously set for porting my local numbers. The Sprint techs were on time and had the syste up and running in a couple of hours. I am very satisfied with the service. The connect speeds have run as high as 7mps, down load and around 1mps upload. I had a brief service problem last week but it was gone before I could report it.

I recommend that anyone who is interested in a high speed connection look at Sprint ION. I have the XT4 service with 4 phone lines two computer ports and 700 minutes included long distance plus voice mail and caller ID (number only)

This is the best deal in the Dallas area.

I was hooked up on Feb 2,. 2001 and have had pretty good luck so far. I got the XT4 service that includes 4 phone lines
(with all features included) and 700 minutes of long distance, at Sprint
ION's $149 a month I am already saving money over Qwest with their DSL and 1 phone line, I now have 4 phone lines and a
MUCH faster connection (Qwest bill was around 200 a month, long distance use and features come into play here).

The install went ok, but the guy didn't have to do too much, he hadn't a clue
about Windows 2000 installs, so I did that side. I also told him to to
worry about installing the phone lines out of the hub, I would take care of them
later....He had some trouble mounting the hub (c100) inside since my house is 95
years old and has lath & plaster walls, he was trying to use regular drywall
anchors, I still don't think he understood what lath & plaster meant after I
explained it to him....(blank stare said it all).

Speed is wonderful I'm getting the max 8Mbit/sec down and 1Mbit/sec up.
    Here are the results.
(note for results: AnalogX NetStat Live seems to over-report). The
Earthlink services are not the best......mail and news services both could be
better. For such a fast line I sure get a slow NNTP included with it (It
goes slower than what I got before with Qwest and the 0.64Mbit/sec
down....) THANK GOD for Supernews, for the most part I can get about
5Mbit/sec down from them, too bad about the 2.5gig limit....(I'm not about to
upgrade to $34.95 a month thank you since I'm grand-fathered in at only $6 a
month now....had them for about 4 or 5 years now.....). I wish I
could choose a different ISP besides Earthink..... Oh well I think I can live
with it. Ping times are still a little slow but I can live with that, I'm
not a gamer so, so what.... OH yes, 2 static IPs, no more NAT
issues!!!!!!!!! Now all internet applications work!
The phone service has been almost perfect. For being all digital it is
quite good. The delay is very, very slight (I called myself and but myself on conference
to show delay and compared to a program that has adjustable delays) I'm guessing
it is about 50ms or less. There is a weird effect on musical hold though....It
will cut out on the quieter parts, I can live with that. Still
looking for cheaper 4 line phones........

I have already had 2 interruptions in service though. One was complete outage
for about 3 hours that included the phone lines going out. The other was a West coast DNS failure that only effected the internet
service that lasted about the same. When I called them on both occasions
they were quite upfront about the issues but both times didn't have an estimate
    on repair times.
Overall Sprint ION is something I don't regret getting at all. The
good far out-ways the bad. I just wonder why they have stopped installing
new service in my area for now.....Seattle area..... I hope this
    isn't a bad sign.....

I ordered the cheapest/slowest connection (1500/384 "slowest") and I currently get about 1300/280 for $45 a month. Qwest took forever to install the line, once they did everything went very fast. I had to make the install date about a month after Qwest finally did their part, Sprint arrives right on schedule, does their thing in about 4 hours. Since then it was went down once, for about two hours. I have a static IP, and for the first time I contacted tech support to reconfigure (deleted something on accident) they were VERY helpful and knowledgable. Probaly the only bad thing is that it hops from Denver, to Kansas City before going anywhere else, but I still ping around 100 to any server. Great so far!

SprintION is the best I've seen. I'm a network admin and the speeds are great. If you expecting a trouble free sign-up from start to finish you've set your standards too high. After dealing with corporate and the technicians came out to install it, it took them a little under 4 hours to get everything going right. BUT THEY STAYED TO MAKE SURE EVERY LAST LITTLE THING WORKED! The install guy's care. if you live in the L.A. area, request Robert Torres and Feltner Hunt to come do your install. The speed is 4MBit down, 1MBit up. Can you say sizzlin'? LAG? NONE! Great for GAMERS. I'm using a static I.P. and they give you 2. BE PATIENT OBI-WAN! it is worth the wait! (I have other dsl lines running to the same house, covad, and these line is AWESOME) Ok... Good review all around for SprintION (Except CORPORATE! they have their heads submerged somewhere)

"None"

"After waiting for 3 months, I was told I can't have the service."

I ordered Sprint ION, because it sounded like a really good deal. I waited three months. During that time I never once received a call from Sprint. I would wait for a fews days after I supposed to receive a call, and call to find out what was going on. Finally after several rounds of this, I had a install date scheduled for today, April 6. I was told the tech would show up between 8-10 am. I called at 10:00 to find out when he was going to show up. I was then told that my line did not qualify for DSL.

I have steam coming out my ears right now. Why did it take 3 months to tell me that my line doesn't qualify? When was Sprint planning to call me to tell me that the tech was not coming? They claimed that they left a voice mail for me. ( I assume they meant message on my answering machine.) But there was no message.

The order management group at Sprint is aweful. One gentlemen, who I was told was a supervisor, did not even know the name of the product, refering to the XT2 product as the "two line thingy".

This is the most unprofessional business I have ever dealt with. I recomment that anyone interested this service look elsewhere. I can accept that fact that my line doesn't qualify, but the amount of time I waited to find this out, and the poor customer service I received is unacceptable.

I have had Sprint ION for over 1 year, I was one of the first customers in Denver. I was pretty much a beta tester for at least 9 months. The data speeds are just incredible (being 4 blocks from the CO doesn't hurt) I find myself cursing the rest of the internet for not being able to keep up. I've downloaded over 30mb files from Microsoft in less than 30 seconds, at the same time listening to 128KB mp3 streams (long live www.radioparadise.com).

I had my original ILEC phone lines ported since December and I can't praise the phone situation like the data. For the first couple of months the phones worked flawless but the last month or so has not been very good. Generally talking over the lines is OK with occasionally clipping, echos, and fading, but trying to use the lines to send or receive faxes is very unreliable. It has gotten to the point that I have asked the ILEC to port back my fax number. The procedure here is to start the action on the ILEC side and once Sprint gets the provision request from the ILEC they will complete the process. I wish I didn't have to go back to the monopoly but my business can not operate without a good fax line and efax doesn't provide local numbers in Denver.

I got Spring ION xt2 installed on Feb 19, after one failed installation. Connection speed varies from 1.4Mbps to 2.5Mbps even with two computers running. I'm at 11,800 feet from the CO. The two IP addresses are static. The bad part of the deal is the telephone service, which still has a lot of room for improvement: echo, air silence when accessing voice mail or other menu-driven telephone services, some callers can get connected. Tech support people strugge to help and show a nice attitude, but somethings seem to be out of their control. The echo and air silence problems have open tickets for several days now and still they remain without repair. If you are willing to sacrifice the quality of phone service for the fastest broadband speed Sprint ION is for you.
