I no longer am with Sprint.
I am rating Sprint all 1's, because of thier actions this summer to up and shut off service to thousands of business customers the summer of 2002. I had re-signed on with their alternate service offering and was told my service would be uninterupted. Psyche! I am unfortunately still with them - as a matter of convenience only - after being without access for a full month. With an office move planned for this May, changing our ISP just isn't going to happen with this office. Stay away from Sprint, IMO.

8/1/01 when calling into tech support for downed newsgroups (yet again) I found out that Directlink was going away on September 24th (still is? maybe? maybe not?). At that time I decided to go with a big company ISP (since first Cyberramp went south and now Directlink seems to be doing it). I narrowed my choice to two - Verizion (DSL & ISP 1.5 down/384up - $80 a month) or Sprint ION (DSL,ISP 8.0 down/1.0up, phone, & LD w/200mins a month - $105 a month). I decided to go with Sprint ION. I called in and told I woul have to wait until 8/17/01 for a DSLAM to be installed in the local CO
8/17/01 I made a call to sprint ION today and the DSLAM has been installed in the local CO.
The ION phone rep went though a checklist of items that I needed to check, to make sure the transition would be streamlined. Exact name on account, no blocks on phone line, etc. He confirmed that my install date would be the Sept 12. I said that I was kind of concerned since it leaves less than 2 weeks to get my DSL transfered. He assured me that it would be no problem.
8/20/01 - Called Verizon. There is a 1-900 block on the phone that I asked to be re-move. I received a voice mail call informing me the change was done
8/21/01 - coworker said to check to make sure that IONs DSL isnt running a VPN to the house or at the CO. If it does, it could interfere with work's VPN - call ION and they assure me that they do not use VPN and I should have no problems with work VPN.
8/27/01 - Received e-mail from Sprint ION Install Date: 9/21/01
Pre-Install Date: 9/4/01 - Verizon is to have a line provisioned (installed) to my house that will support the standards associated w/ Sprint ION services.
8/27/01-Called in to Michelle about install date being different on email. 9/21 is the new date. She can't/won't explain why the date is 9/21 instead of 9/12. A loop is what is being installed on the 9/4/01 so Sprint can run tests for services. A request was sent to Verizon to install the loop. Michelle says that once the loop is installed, they can run their tests the next day (9/5/01) and schedule the install within the next 7-10 days. She said she would call me back on the 9/5/01 (she never called).
9/5/01 - Called in to ask if test has been done. Phone tech said that it didn't show in the paperwork. She puts me on hold and calls the testing department. I am then told that the CO is down and until they come back up, no tests can be done - no ETA. I then ask how my DSL could still be running if the CO was down, but got speculation as to why (understandable - Verizon owns CO and Im sure doesn't want to share issues/problems freely with other companies).
9/6/01 - Called in to see if CO is back up. Phone tech says that it can take up to 72 hours to run tests (why was I told "the next day" by earlier rep???). Was not given clear info if CO was up or not.
9/7/01 - Called in to see if tests were run. Shelbra informs me that the tests were not run. She will put an emergency test through which will guarantee a response from Verizon in 24 hours. Since this is Friday, that means a response may not come back until Monday. She states that a loop test is run - if it doesn't come back 100%, then they have to have the local phone company work on the line. When it does, they schedule the install. During that time period, the loop test will be done 2 more times. If at any time the loop test fails (any number of reasons including local phone company removing loop) then they would have to contact the local phone company again.
Shelbra promises to call me Tuesday or Wednesday with the reponse to the test. I inform her at this time that not only am I upset AND concerned that I'll get changed over before I lose my current DSL, but If I don't get a solid answer by Friday, Sept 14th. I will have to cancel my order and go with Verizion (since they promise 5 working days to transfer my current ISP from Directlink to Verizon). I don't want to do that since I really like what ION has to offer. She assures me that she will escalate this issue. I also am concerened that I'll even get a callback since another tech promised to contact me and never did. I am also told that 284up/284down is the guaranteed minimum! (nowhere is that listed) I don't feel that that is fair. Shelbra give me her extension so that I may call back to speak directly with her if I don't receive a call.
9/11/01 called in to check status of test. Spoke w/Arthur. No notice of previous call to Shelbra. Still having problems with test - this time it seems to be w/ the Verizon DSLAM. Waiting now for Verizon to give new lines for tests.
I then asked for a supervisor. I spoke w/ Ginger. I wanted someone to voice my complaints to.
9/13/01 - Called back in to Arthur (am). He has to check w/ provisioner but provisioner it away at the moment. Will now wait for Arthur to call me back. No call back by 2pm - called Arthur and he still has not heard back from provisioner.
Arthur called me at the end of the day letting me know he still was waiting to hear back from provisioner.
9/14/01 - Called back in (2pm) since I have not heard from anyone. Arthur's line is busy so I went to next avail rep (Ernestein). Says that the note in my account states that Verizon has no additonal lines on the DSLAM to provision to me so my order is put on hold with no ETA. I explain that I am upset and this is not acceptable. Rep tries to call provisioner, but nobody answers - she states that they sometimes don't answer their phone. Rep is going send me an email with all the info (only has an order # then Thanks followed by has her name, phone number and extension). Im told to call in sometime next week.
9/14/01 - I get home to find a tag on the door saying the pre-test was successful (by Jay) and that my install is scheduled for 9/21/01. I call in to verify and find out that the tech who came to my door was mistaken (WTF???). I start to complain again about how that is unacceptable since I will be losing my current DSL on the 24th. Im extremely irate and want to speak to a manager. I am transfered to a supervisor (Shameka) who I tell my whole tale to, again. She apologizes and offers me a $50 credit. She says the problem is still with Verizion not changing over the pairs. She also states that from this point on, she will deal directly with me and help me to get the install as soon as possible. If the testing can be done soon, and an earlier install date opens up, she will try and move up my install date.
9/17/01 - I get an email from shameka that states that Verizon will be back out to my house on the 9/21/01 to install the loopback (again? or maybe because the pair are being switched to a different DSLAM?). I call up and speak to Shameka to verify that this is the case - my install date is still the 10/4/01.
9/23/01 - I called in to check status of test. Verizon did not come out on the 9/21/01, but re-scheduled to 9/24/01. Will wait some more....
9/26/01 - received email that loop was tested and that installation will be on 10/4/01. I called in to verify with Shameka, but she is in a meeting. She called back later to verify that the testing has been done - NOTE: nobody is willing to give out any information about distance or speeds. Install date cannot be moved closer due to Verizon requires 7 days notice for changeover.
10/4/01. Tech showed up to do intall was ontime and very friendly. His name is Ron. He was very concerned not only with the installation, but also the cosmetic appearance of his work (fantastic job on both). Went through everything with me and gave extra service (not only did he run lines cleanly and professionally, but in the attic he made sure they were stapled up and out of the way).
10/12/01. Im very happy now. The speeds are incredible! There is some questions on who to call when having mail problems (earthlink or sprint), but other than that, everything at this point seems rock solid. My phone works great. I've not had any issues changing my phone options. Calls are alot like cell phone calls, but for the most part pefectly clear (every once in awhile, I'll get a slight echo of my voice, but not often). Im glad I toughed it out.
10/18/01 ARRRRRGH! SprintION is going under. I called in today (couldn't get through yesterday - phones disconnected) and was told that if I cancelled my account now, I get a $400 credit. If I don't do it now, no guarantee that I'll get anything. The definate cut off date is December 31st but maybe sooner if local states allow Sprint to shut down early.
NOW I HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER @#@$! ISP. DAMN THEM! I even asked before this started.. I get two weeks of SprintION and now I have to look again. DAMN THEM!
11/21/01 NOW I GET A BILL IN THE MAIL FOR $297.05 (actually 497.03 - 199.98 credit for 2 yr contact agreement to cover hardware and installation)! They tried to bill me for a month plus pro-rating, even though I only had the service for 2 WEEKS! WTF???
I called in and spoke to Debbie in billing. After 30 mins on the phone, she finally agrees to charge me $125.00 (99.99 for the XT1 service, 5 for the line charge, and the rest in taxes) even though it's still high for only two weeks, I agree. I then ask about the $50 credit that should be coming to me from Shamika. Debbie sees nothing about it on the account. She calls Shamika, and luckily, Im remembered, so I do get the $50 credit. Now my bill is down to $75.00.
Now I get to wait and see if I'll get my $400 check. Debbie said it should be in December.

Well, this was quite the traumatic experience for me. I recently found out that my old ISP was doubling their prices and was on the lookout for a new company. Low and behold these Sprint Ion representatives happened to be roaming around my neighborhood looking for customers. After formally grilling them and being amazed by what they were offering, I signed up. What they SAID I'd get: a 8mbps/1mbps ADSL line with low latency. Two static IP addresses in case I wanted to host a server or a LAN. Four phone lines running over the DSL line with unlimited calling features. Tech support whenever I needed it. After pushing back our installation date five times, the install guys took so long hooking up the DSL part that they didn't get to port our phone lines the same day. So we had to continue using our old phone lines for an additional month before the lines would be ported. They told me that a Pacbell rep would call me before they ported the lines to let me know to hook up the Sprint lines (cuz it messes up if you don't hook back up within 15 minutes). Well I received no phone call, and as I picked up the phone to call them I realized there was no dial tone. Of course the lines had been ported over an hour ago with nobody telling me. So I've spent the last two days trying to get my phone working and it is still not fixed. They opened up a "trouble ticket" which hasn't helped me at all. Then comes their incredible DSL. True the datapipe was huge. A whopping 2mbit/800k. However, the latency just to the first hop was already at 40 ms, and it had spikes up to 800 nearly all the time, raising it's average to 100ms. I was lagging out simply trying to browse the internet. Once again we got a "trouble ticket." Lastly, we got a call from them when I started up my webserver. Apparently in their contract it says "No providing services of any kind through your DSL service including hosting websites, servers, etc." thus making what their salespeople told me COMPLETE AND UTTER LIES. This has been the worst experience I've ever had with DSL and I hope nobody else falls for their salespitch that they same to fabricate out of thin air.

"DSL service is great, fast, reliable"

"Thinking of dropping Sprint ION, going back to Qwest for local, maybe Sprint Broadband for DSL"

Order to installation took close to 2 months. Exterior installation of wiring was very sloppy. DSL was working that day. It took about 3 more weeks to get the local service cut over.
Charge was supposed to be $119 per month, DSL, local, 400 minutes LD, voice mail, etc. After a month they tried to increase it by $5 for access to the local telco. Fought with them on that and they waived it for the 2 years of the service agreement. To this day I still get long distance bills from my old carrier. I call Sprint, they give me a credit, but they can't seem to get it fixed.
I've had several outages (both voice and data) that lasted more than a day. My voice mail often does not pick up. I don't know this until friends and family that have been trying to leave a message finally get me in person and tell me so. Very annoying.
Calls frequently don't complete. I call someone, I get silence for a while, I get a recording. Or, someone calls me, the phone rings once, the caller gets disconnected, I get no one on the line.
I have two IP addresses, two ports on the hub, so basically a little local area network for my desktop and laptop. Very nice. DSL is fast, 1.5mb to 2mb downloads.
Customer service is always very nice and pleasant on the phone, but they seem to be poorly trained. I have trouble getting them to understand my problems with their service, it takes too long to get things fixed, they say they'll call back and never do. Today I called because my voice mail wasn't picking up, they put me on hold for a few minutes, came back and tried to explain to me why my email should be working. Hello?!?
I've tried forever to get my second number to forward to my cell phone (that works), my cell phone forwards to my first number if no answer (that works), but voice mail won't pick up, instead the caller is asked to enter their mail box address. I've tried to explain the problem, get it fixed - still waiting.
Features from Qwest I miss. Caller ID from Qwest has name and number, only number from Sprint. Voice mail has stutter dial tone if there are messages with Qwest, with Sprint I have to dial in to voice mail to check. With Qwest I had "one-number" service forwarding home number to cell phone if cell phone is on. Of course Sprint can't do this because they don't know that the cell phone is on.
The quality and features of voice service is so disappointing I'm going to have to go back to Qwest for local service, and maybe Sprint Broadband for DSL. Sprint ION is just not ready for prime time, and not worth the money.

AVOID SPRINT ION AT ALL COST!
I first placed my order with Sprint ION on August 8th, 2000. It is now March 9th, 2001 and I had to call Sprint to discover that they were unable to complete the circuit and that Verizon had canceled the order due to loop length. According to Sprint, they had difficulty gaining access and informed me that my distance from the CO was now double was now double what it has been since August. Sprint ION is negligent in their order processing, and has no business advertising services that they are unable to provide. I had to call them repeatedly to keep my attempted order moving through their systems. Now, after SEVEN MONTHS, I had to call them once again to find out that I had wasted my time.
THEY ARE NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE!
