After two weeks and two technicians who didn't have the necessary tool to install (fiche to pass cable underground) I personally rented one myself and called them over. They were all polite and installation took an hour for the Duo Plan (High Speed and Telephone).

Videotron is the only broadband provider in my area. Strangely Bell calls me every month to sign up DSL followed by an apology explaining it's not available. I knew the unreasonable bandwidth restrictions and exorbitant surcharge fees before signing up but I had no choice.

I wish you could buy extra bandwidth on demand like Bell's 30GB for 10$. I asked Videotron support and they only have SPEED ON DEMAND without increasing the cap! defeats the purpose! For 60$ I expect a cap around 60GB to 100GB.

The telephone service is just as good and Bell. Be prepared to get a doze sob cards, letters, calls begging to switch back.

To sum up I'd gladly take slower speed 1500kbps with higher caps (Business Plan). My contract is over next month and I'll try to switch since they now offer Unlimited Internet+Phone for 67$ with tax (3-yr contract).

The above pretty much sums it up for me: a pretty fast connection but with a download limit of 20G it is too expensive.

I personally got very bad experience with their customer service. When I wanted to quit their service a year ago, the Videotron agent matched the rate of the competition for the entire year. But after six months, the rate went back to normal Videotron level ($25 a month more). when I complained to Videotron, they said they would inquire and call me back. That never happened. So i called again, was promised to be called back, but they didn't. This repeated a couple of times. The reason that they never returned the call as promised was not because they were away or something: they did find the time to send me a notification that if I didn't pay the $150 they were overcharging me, they would hand over my file to a collection agency. If anybody has similar experience, I'd be very interested in hearing about it. In the end I decided to pay the extra $25 a month they charged me and stopped the internet service with Videotron when the contract finally expired.

    My Other Reviews·TekSavvy Solutions..
order: the lady knew her job, it was really fast. I got the installation 2 days after, couldn't expect better than that :P

I have analog TV, high speed internet, telephony. pay 110$ a month.

technical support: I called them a few times (not always for my account, but also for some friends). I can't really judge the quality, as I knew exactly what to ask...it's always faster and easier when you know their job :P

QOS is perfect, only had 2 troubles over the year, one was with the dns, but I didn't really care, just switched dns and it was ok. second was a network trouble, lasted 1h, I wasn't there, so I didn't even see it but my roomate did :P

I'm gonna quit internet service soon, because 20 GB cap is not enough for me. I always have to check my bandwidth usage 5 days before the end of then month.... for example this month, I'm close to the red zone cause I dled ubuntu, a set of docs, programs, fretsonfire and a set of songs for the game...

    alright, update on march 28th.
I called to cancel my services, internet and phone. I had everything prepared in advanced, talked with 2 competent agents, from customer service and retention. My internet will be cancelled on the date of april 26th, I keep the phone line. Here's how I presented things: calc how much it'd cost me to go to adsl, dry loop fees around 120$ for the year, so I asked for a discount of 120$ to keep the service. I got everything I requested and kept phone service. and I will keep it, the service is excellent.

I have just activated my dry-loop and yes it's a good move, too bad I had already busted the 30GB caps for this month byt even with their 120$ cancel fee I still save this year!

It's the only one in Quebec, no competition. I hope competition starts soon so we can receive the Cisco wideband terminal from Videotron which should be available soon, now that will be something else, 50-100MB download and 10-30MB upload.

They've been listening to their customers ?!

You gotta be kidding me !

Their customers have asked for unlimited internet. Videotron used BAIT and SWITCH by providing the Expreme tier with unlimited transfers and later on capping it at 100GB braking the contracts that the users signed !

Now, they don't offer any unlimited plan !

You call this listening to their customers ?!

What about upload bandwidth ? Even in the states, the cable cos are offering upload in the 2Mbps+ while Videotron is still not even approaching 1Mbps.

So much for listening to their customers..

Re: They've been listening to their customers ?!

I have had very few problems with my internet. When I used to have problems, I'd have to wait forever to get help, or the technician would take forever. That has improved over the last few years.
I don't know all this unlimited stuff you're talking about..so I'm sorry it affected you negatively.

I have been with Videotron for a few years now, 5 or 6. I always had a great service. I have the illico service, High-Speed Internet and the cable phone line. They all work great. I dont have HD TV yet.

I use my Internet for gamming, many hours a week and I always have one of the best ping on the servers I play. No downtime. I only have for a combine 7-8Gb or bandwith used every month.

I've been with Videotron for more than 5 years, for now with the 7mbps/820kbps service.I tried their 10mbps Extreme high speed service but didn't see much difference in speed in most of my uses. The connection is very reliable, tech support is variable, I had better luck calling them in daytime, even if you wait longer in line, still preferable in my opinion than dealing with someone who doesn't seem to know what you're talking about in the evening. Installation went smoothly the 2 times I moved and overall I'm satisfied with the service.

My only gripe is the caps, 20Gb download and 10Gb upload is very low considering the streaming content that is now available on the net. I bust the limit frequently and I don't download via torrents. Very expensive per gigabyte.

    You're right

You're right. At $1.50/GB it wouldn't be that bad but at $7.95 it's crazy. I wanted to switch to DSL but I only get 3.0 here so I'm stuck with limited 7.1 VS throttled 3.0.

At least we still have the $30 maximum penalty right? The old customers weren't updated to $50 right?

And I'd loose all my package rebates. With a $30 penalty, Videotron would be $70 for me.

    Reallly now !?

Let me help you with some BAD points :

    - Breach of contract = they capped all extreme users to 100GB in the middle of the contract

    - EXPENSIVE AS @#$% ! 70$ a month for 100GB?!?!

    - LOW LOW LOOOOOOOW CAPS. Who in their right mind considers 20GB a month to be acceptable ?!

They are a monopoly that should be avoided at all costs. Too bad that in QC there only alternative we have left is the Videotron resellers ever sing Hell started throttling their own resellers..

Still possible to have virtually no cap via the HighSpeed 7mbit tier which have a 50$ overcharge cap on the 20gig down 10gig up cap, ironic is'nt it? Reliable speed...maybe...that was considered good speed worldwide 2-3 years from now, now it's obsolete, but you can't really have better in America, let's face it. That's why they keep abusing too. And that's why I keep abusing their only tier which have 'virtually' no cap with an average of 500gig down 250gig up per month. That's a 2 way game, I suck the more juice I can since the day there is no more free-of-cap service I will unsubscribe completely from any internet service at all (since it sucks all over Canada...ummm America). Thinking about moving to France or Japan where they have descent services. By the way, I'm not really complaining. It's just that Videotron is a telecom giant and is capable of offering way better product than they are right now. It's sad to see a slow down in evolution in the name of more profit. I don't have the numbers, but I'm sure it's already huge, why stop innovation. Here is a link to the HighSpeed tier page for more information: »www.videotron.com/services/fr/in···-ihv.jsp

It's expensive, but grab it while it still stands. With all the third party ISPs being throttled by Bell, there is'nt much choice.

    No choice ?

Why not go with a DSL provider like Unilimited cap with TekSavvy, take 2 DSL lines and use MLPPP to combine both and get a 10Meg down / 1.5Meg up for less than what you are paying now with videotron.

MLPPP is not throttled so you get your full speed 24/7

I totaly agree with your review... but not that there is no other choice...

    Re: No choice ?

I didn't even know what MLPPP was. But setting it up doesn't seem to be an easy task. So this technique evade throttling...interesting lol, thanks. I am still on a contract with Videotron but I'll check this out in September. But I doubt this technique is without it's problems, and that it will always evade throttling. Is'nt it possible for Bell to change their throttling techniques to adapt this workaround?

I said I would unsubscribe from any internet service at all, but I just bought Age Of Conan lol..I never was into MMOs but that one kick ass. So now If I wanna play, I can't be without internet service at home. :P

There has been a big issue with Videotron and the way that they modified their Extreme High Speed package. Originally not having a cap on bandwidth usage they decided to cap it at 50G per month but didn't change their advertising campaigns and didn't allow you to cancel your subscription without fees because of the change. For this reason I will never subscribe to any of their services again.

    almost...

Technically it's a 100Gb "bi-directional" cap, though that does mean 50GB for upload, and 50GB for download separately, but yes it is a terrible villainous business practice that means they should be avoided.
