Very reliable network uptime, relatively faster download/upload speed than advertized.
Very pricey packages.
Expensive but network is reliable.

High speed internet (cable) 10mbps up, 15mbps down. 50 GB/Monthly combined data transfer cap. Multiple packages are available. Mine is one of the lower end ones.

Cable modem supplied upon subscription.

Must subscribe to at least one other service (Digital TV, Phone, Cell) from provider to be eligible to a $15 rebate on the monthly TV package subscription cost. If you take their land line phone option, you get an extra $6 rebate on that package cost (3 services altogether).

Major good point: Connection reliability and speed.

Major bad points: Very expensive for its overall value when compared to what's available from other ISPs, be it in Canada or compared to what's available in other countries. Latest monthly bill was around $165 for a pretty basic TV package, basic land line phone service and the internet package described above. They usually raise their prices at least once a year, sometimes even twice, so I'm examining local alternatives which ask less money for comparable performance and reliability even if changing our emails all over the place would be a truly painful experience...

zyxel router and arris cable modem

Agent #208450 called Medti was funny, spoken a good french something that some tech support should care about a little more, personalized service with callbacks was nice, I would said that Videotron vastly improved since before independant isps were better, however security is slightly abussive so it's absolutely impossible to negociate anonymously something that could make it hard to get fair reviews from tech journalists, it should be done only after a deal is accepted, that said I still recommend the agent while not a Videotron fan as an hard customer since I'm a sysadmin so it make my review a bit more harsh but I expect that customers like aged people might not be served as they should deserve, the service isn't the most easy on them, take it mostly as a constructive comment, it's overall good but it could improve and that's a good thing, Videotron improved and could still do it, Thanks Medti to have shown me that Videotron could do more than before !!!

Rating 9.5/10 from let say 6.5/10 near 15 years ago ...

I've been with Videotron for at least 2 years now... connection is always good... speed is up to par.
No complaints at all. Technical support is fast.

I've got the 5o years anniversary promo... at +/-$47 taxes incl. for a 30/10 unlimited connection, this is a very good deal! Without this deal, I would have stayed with an independent ISP.

update January 23rd 2018.
After receiving the increase letter, I've decided to call them. I wanted to a least somewhat cancel the increase. No real deal was offered.
I've asked them what if I get the highest speed available (200mbits)... best deal was rebate of $7.50 per month... which still end up more expensive than EBox for the same service. So I've canceled my internet with Vidéotron and went with EBox. They've lost a loyal customer... I was paying $360 tx included for my Internet connection, tv and 4 cellphone lines. They will be loosing a lot more than just my Internet connection if they do not come up with something better in the future.

update July 2019
I've been back with Videotron for a few months now on the 400/50 plan. The promo price for 12 months end up to be $60+tx for me. if they do not give me a good price after this 12 months, I'll be back in Ebox quickly.

Update September 2019
I've switched to Bell Fibe because FTTH is now available in my neighbourhood... I've got Fibe 500. Having more than 50mbits upload speed (limit on the 400/50 I had with Videotron) is great.

videotron

l got a quotation from videotron for my service month ago with a promise to get this deal once my contrast ends,l got reference number as the proof.when l called back they said agent made a mistake and they will not honor their promise.
their solution was that agent will be "educated" and l need to pay extra 20CAN in order to get that plan.

Videotron customer service inexistent & repair fees are outrageous

We've had Videotron home internet for 3 years now but in the last 2 months we have been loosing the connection daily. Vidéotron is proposing to charge us $75 to improve the connection + minimum of $59.99 for repair. Shame on them ! - We called their customer service and tech support 4 times. Each time, the wait time to speak to an agent exceeded 20mn. We tried their chat option but that service ended up being total failure. If you can, avoid Videotron at all cost.

Re: Videotron customer service inexistent & repair fees are outrageous

If they want to charge you for this, it means the problem is inside your home... you are responsible for the inside wiring and your personal equipment... so you have to pay.
They will never ask you to pay for repairs for any outside your home.

Automne 2007

You are paying too much

$89 for 3 Mbps, and low cap certainly.

I pay Teksavvy DSL for $32, 4.3 Mbps, and 300 Gig bandwidth.

Re: You are paying too much

I should make my review better

89$ is for two cellular. in fact we pay 15$ each for 500mb per month internet.

We only do web browsing / 32kbps aac+ streaming and google maps with our phone

UPDATE:

I have had Videotron's mobile service for 4 months. Basically... it works, even if I live in a basement! I clearly remember my Bell phone (10 years ago) having trouble catching the signal.

They have cheap yet good phones (I chose a Samsung Galaxy Mini, 15$ at the time) and cheap yet good service (I plan to upgrade to Voice 25, which is 100 minutes, unlimited evenings and week-ends, call display, message box and unlimited messaging) soon. I don't get that many calls that are worth answering or returning.

I like it!

===

Ordering Internet (high speed) was easy by phone. When I found out that my antenna got no TV channels, I called back to order TV if possible on the same visit. I was told to ask the technician if he had time. He did it. The modem was a regular cable modem.

A year later I ordered land phone (around 39 $/month at the time I think). They changed the modem. The battery is supposed to give 8 hours of service in case of power failure. It stops before 2 hours. I guess I'll have to consider mobile emergency service.

The TV channels choice is poor, especially in English. New English channels have time to prosper everywhere else before Videotron will consider adding them. But Internet is trustworthy and the phone quality is excellent when power is available.

This company will raise its prices more than once a year. Yesterday (as they were announcing Illico 2.0) they raised the fees for almost all of their TV packages, after raising TV basic service and Internet service by $2 a month on January 1. So be warned.

Probably not the best company available, but when your landlord doesn't allow dishes, Videotron is a reasonably good alternative.

On the other hand, Fibe is apparently coming up soon, and I will most definitely check on their offer...

UPDATE: I bought myself a tablet and decided to lease the Videotron router ($1.99/month) and it works beautifully with my notebook, my tablet and my smartphone. No more wires, YAY!

===

Another update: When I decided to "upgrade" my cell line (with them) and drop the landline, Videotron offered me so many discounts that I kept the landline (as a backup if I lost my cell phone or something) for $2.55 a month...

No call display or voicemail though.

===

Yet another update: If you are on their "Sur Mesure 30" TV channel package, you may be unable to make any change other than by phone or chat, due to the system insisting on you needing "Classic Videotron" or something. Very stupid bug. I suggested to introduce a 31 or 35 or 40 pack without it, but they're not listening...

===

VERY bad service today.

I ordered TMN (for Game of Thrones) and canceled the useless residential phone line. My mistake. For some reason, and although I had asked for TMN first, they canceled the phone first. Since I had a phone modem and an Internet modem (don't ask me why, my former modem could do both), they figured I had two modems, and I can't have TMN until I bring back the now useless modem. Bye bye Game of Thrones. And bye bye my order, I'll buy the DVDs when they come out.

Yes on that reference about videotron landlines not doing its job in power failures. Best to have another company's mobile service at the same time.

Exactly. I plan to go on Rogers' Senior Plan (basic but economical) and keep the Videotron landline.

Solid service, good customer support
EXTREMELY expensive, must buy TV signal even if you don't use it, slow, terrible 3rd party field techs
it's ok if you have too much money burning a hole in your pocket

We've had Videotron for something like the last 20 years. We've paid through our noses. These last few years, linear TV wasn't being watched any more, and the obscene expense looked more and more ridiculous. It also was not particularly performant, though fast enough for most typical usage cases. A couple of times in all those years, a need for a tech visit would arise and it was always a dreadful experience. Smelly people with huge attitudes and obvious severe retardation issues. Never cared much about trashing the place while doing their work.

Of the goods things, I will remember the prompt, courteous and efficient service on the phone, solid uptimes (can't really remember the service going down). Too bad it costed that much. It was good, just not worth that much money.
